im not convinced by Yokouchi but if this becomes a plan for JFA, absolutely no reason to keep Moriyasu at any capacity. sack him outright and hire new manager for senior team.

Which is an issue that has always existed and will probably always will.
I didn't see any particular tactical problem that would block the team from performing, just the shortcomings we see every single time.
There is l, however, a certain instability when it comes to the members as the best ones already play for the Senior team. I dont think theres been a single instance where the definite squad was reunited and play together, just parts here and there. This AFC U23 is no different.

Let’s hope Moriyasu and Japan Olympic team’s CB watched this match and learnt a lesson from it:

    What is Moriyasu’s footballing philosophy?

An excuse about the the team not having the best team together?

JFA have spent so much time and money in the U23 and this is what we have six months from the Olympics?

Other AFC countries have a significantly smaller budget and time together as a team and they look much better.

An excuse about an ineffective attack being a ‘Japanese’ problem?

What the hell has Moriyasu been doing for the last two years with his training camps and friendlies. He can shrug his shoulders and say it’s been a ‘Japanese’ problem for years so deal with it?

Japan lost against Syria:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:, this really a new low record in Japanese football.

This happens while Syria is war-stricken for the last decade, to the point that their league stopped in numerous times in this period.

To clarify, I'm not dismissing the quality of Asian football which is clearly improving. Despite the conflict back home, Syria was a cross bar away from beating Australia in the WCQ play-offs.

Maybe Japan didn't have their so-called "best" players on paper. I find it difficult to see how calling up the likes of Doan, Kubo and Tomiyasu will change the results with Moriyasu in charge.

At the end of the day it's just excuses for a pathetic tournament with a manager who hasn't shown any indication he's learnt anything in the last two years.

It's the manager/coach's job to fix it.

The biggest problem I have with Moriyasu (or perhaps the current FA setup) is their failure to articulate what they want to see on the pitch from the national teams. What kind of organizing principles, style of play, execution do they want to see? How will the FA or the viewer evaluate whether it is working? It seems like Moriyasu either keeps this intentionally vague or lacks a cohesive vision in the first place. If he is holding a press conference, I want him to talk about football in concrete terms, describing actions and movements which take place during the match.

No coach can reprogram the way players are taught and raised once they reach the pro level. They can maximize their qualities, make them improve to a certain extent. But talent and instinct cant be taught. You can't turn a donkey into Messi.

But Moriyasu can’t even come close to maximising their qualities given he lacks any vision or footballing philosophy. It’s never Moriyasu’s fault right?

Most of Syria’s senior NT players which made it the play-offs were in their early or mid-twenties when the conflict began in their country, some of them were 17-19 years old back then. Which meant they were already grown-ups and the war did not affect their development, as most of them left Syria to play in neighbouring Arab or Mediterranean countries.

Unlike this generation players who were U-14 when the conflict began, hence their development was literally affected by the dire situation in their country.

For Japan to lose against Syria, with all of Japan’s football infrastructure and overwhelming support from JFA in every aspect, is a real kick on the a$s.

This result was really embarrassing, Moriyasu’s shortcomings shall be addressed.

He won the J.League 3 times with teams comprised of 90% Japanese players just by shuffling players randomly and deciding their roles by a throw of dices.

    yeah yeah yeah.

We are talking about higher calibre opposition in international football in 2020. Nice try deflecting by bringing up his record in club football over five years ago.

How about you explain what Moriyasu’s footballing philosophy is and what he is trying to achieve on the football pitch?

Because you keep avoiding this question and fluffing on. Many on this forum and ex-players and pundits who are more qualified than us are more confused and frustrated with his brand, or lack of, football.

By this same logic, you could have Messi etc in your team and still be abysmal if your manager is out of his depth and lacking any tactical intelligence or motivation.

Your second sentence is not restricted to football players.

Why keep blaming the players? Some, if not most of them, had an excellent season in the J League and even the ACL.

Why can’t your second sentence be applied to the manager as well?

The VAR has somehow made the refereeing even worse than usual.

Straight red card from nowhere. What's the point of using VAR?

This has been embarrassing......this is the Japan U23 national football team....even if it is missing a fair few players what on earth has happened.

Good result. A win in a dead rubber would’ve papered over the large cracks of what has been an embarrassing tournament.

Japan being dead last in its group at an Asian level is what makes it truly embarassing imo.

    What happened...?

My 18-man for the finals. The bolded players didn't get called up this time.

I expect Moriyasu to switch back to the traditional 4-2-3-1.

    First 11
    GK Osako
    LB Sugioka
    CB Tomiyasu
    CB Yoshida
    RB Sugawara
    DM Shibasaki
    DM Itakura
    LM Abe
    AM Kubo
    RM Doan
    CF Osako

    Reserves
    GK Kojima
    DF Watanabe
    DF Iwata
    MF Nakayama
    MF Miyoshi
    MF Soma
    FW Maeda

I would argue Keito Nakamura in place of Abe maybe. And Machida or Tatsuta in place of maybe Watanabe. Yoshida too has not been playing very well this season. And maybe Daiki Matsuoka/Mitsuki Sato in place of Shibasaki, who too has not been playing very well this season. Maybe either one of Yuya Fukuda/Daiki Kaneko can be reserves as well as both of them can switch between playing DM and CM.

Red card. Tanaka touched the ball first.

Penalty. It was Qatar's attacker who fouled in the box. The ref didn't even confirm with VAR.
