Good point though a flash in a pan. It seems to be like all of our strikers. They either do well over a few games but FLOP over the course of several seasons. Whether that's due to prolonged injuries or manager disapproval... who knows
In general, the US has produced very few exceptional, or even notable strikers. When we do, they tend to be "tweeters" who are more often better in an AM role. It's odd, as you'd think we'd at least crank out a few bulldozing, tank-like poacher CFs with more brawn than brains who play like a 70s hockey player in the crease, toe poking, heading, chasing in a bunch of goals, but we haven't ever really gotten one of those.
Scores twice in a friendly against Hannover: ⏱️ 43'@joshsargent at the double 🙌⚽ 2-1 #SVWH96 pic.twitter.com/D7Isgfum9G— SV Werder Bremen EN (@werderbremen_en) January 12, 2020
Nothing like a couple of Bites o' the old Cherry, even at a friendly, to boost one's own confidence and put a glint in the gaffer's eye.
If you want to watch the entire game.... or just the 1st half for Sargent: Both goals were just fantastic. 1st one comes just after the half hour mark and the other in the 43rd as posted.
Werder has sucked w/out him, he's well-rated in his starts at cf, and he showed loyalty in signing w/ them initially in spite of better offers. It's time for them to stop pussyfooting and unleash him the 2nd half of this season.
Word. They were doing pretty well when he was starting.... but they have crumbled since early November when he was on the bench. Not saying his absence is the main reason and I am not saying that Osako shouldn't be starting... just that he looks like a difference-maker and this should be the front three: Rashica - Sargent - Osako
honestly watching a lot of werder matches it seemed like sargent was penalized for not being as good as he could be instead of being worse than his competition
As I said months ago, I don't trust Cowfield and so far he's there I only see Josh getting garbage minutes.
He's had too many appearances without an impact. He needs to impose himself more on the game to become a starter instead of drifting in and out of the action.
The reasoning for how his minutes have been given has simply been textbook management of a young player's career.
Terrible first touch on that first goal. Second goal was more of an own goal, but whatevs. Kid is playing and making himself a nuisance in the box, more than we could hope for at this point.
Yeah compare him to Moussa Dembele. Dembele had 13 appearances for Fulham in the Premier League over two years when he move there. When he was 19 he ended scoring 15 goals in 43 appearances in the Championship (turned 20 in July). Sargent is turning 20 next month. You better believe if Bremen had moved down he would be playing and scoring a ton. But there is no shame in a 19 year old having 4 goals in 21 appearances with a good portion of those being substitute appearances. If he's not the lock starter going into next year or by Thanksgiving, then he probably needs to look elsewhere.
WTF? You mean great first touch on that first goal!? He gets a bouncing fastball on his weak foot and controls it on a plane to short hop it on goal with his right. The pass was bouncing up to his knee when it got to him. Wow. Then owngoal?! What are you on?
he was billed as a wonderkid werder beat other top clubs to sign and once he started playing he was merely adequate with plenty of growing pains.
Werder acknowledged they didn't think they were going to be able to sign him because he had much bigger clubs after his services. He could have chosen just about any club in the world after the u-20 WC.
