As the Fire have a new regime yet to be proven in MLS, a very incomplete and uncompetitive roster and 50 days until the opener, what are the odds the team makes the playoffs this season Even if the new additions (if and when they arrive) gel perfectly and there are no injuries or prolonged national team call up absences, the odds as they sit now are not looking very good. I would be happy to be proven wrong but just not feeling it this year.
I get drunk and watch the White Sox in the playoffs - so basically the same as all of the other years, but the White Sox are good.
The odds that this franchise doesn't exist in five years is higher than I think people appreciate. This situation is a couple of wrong moves from a Chivas being the only option.
At this point no fire fan can be too optimistic. They still have time to wow us with some great acquisitions but we will see. Obviously if they don't make the playoffs the attendance will stink. I don't think joe will give up on heitz quickly.
I guess for prolonged national team call-up, that is likely for Frankowski and Lewandow...no, I can't finish that. Really, it is way too early to speculate.
If Joe Manseuto was not a Chicagoan, I might agree with you. With his investment to this point, I don't think so.
Well if they are that bad, maybe they need to be shut down and a new franchise comes in Chicago. The expansion team would get all the benefits that Atlanta United, LAFC and Miami have gotten. I'd rather go 2 years without a team and them coming in fast and strong like one of those teams, instead of this 8 year quasi rebuild that the fire have been going through anyway.
I don't expect them to make the playoffs this year and with the situation being what is I can accept that because new owner, new regime. It's going to take a while to get things in place and I've said before I just need to know people are trying to be satisfied. The futility has been constant the last 8-10 years but the new guys get enough rope to hang themselves. Clean slate now...we wait.
Life will go on. I don’t have any expectations for this year. Joe seems to want everyone to be patient so it might take a couple of years until he figures it out. MLS is very different now. With so many teams, it will be difficult to come from behind to make the playoffs based on summer signings. If they are in a playoff position when those summer signings arrive, then I will expect a playoff push. Otherwise, I just hope that there is no wooden spoon coming Chicago’s way.
We have sort gone without a team for 10 years. We were hoping this would be our "new" year, with the new owner and move. Too bad it has not been, other than the hideous logo.
Joe wanting a couple of years to figure it out is why it may be a problem hiring a GM without MLS experience. Oh, and retaining Rodriguez, with lots of negative experience
Not much happens. Look at our roster, we are basically an expansion team. New city, new stadium, new owner, etc. We just had less time to prepare than most expansion teams. If we finish out of the bottom 3-4, I'd call it a win. We need to be nearing the playoffs in 2021 and competing for trophies in 2022. Anything better than that is a bonus in my book.
Joe has already arrived at the same solution Hauptman did, that the only problem with the Chicago Fire was its fans. It will go no better for him.
Disagree. I bet Joe sees the problem as lack of fans. Hence, all the ads, badass mural (except for the logo), getting out of bridgeview, etc.
That’s gross. “Take my ball and go home” isn’t exactly the Chicago attitude I’d like to see represented by my club. Determination and fight make much more sense. Quitting while things are tough so you can cheat your way back in with an elevated chance to win? Like I said, gross. How about we all make a commitment to fight together instead of giving up?
So many fair weather fans. Shit has to just be about absolutely perfect for some people to come back on board. You wanted Hauptman gone and now he's gone, so hop on board or go ******** off. It's not always going to be smooth sailing. I like your attitude @bunge
I have season tickets. I'll be there. One of few. The depth of the dysfunction in this organization is exceeded only by the depth of its leadership's delusion about that dysfunction. The nice thing about MLS is that unlike in the big four there are financial consequences for running your business like garbage. Joe Mansueto believed that there was an ocean of support just waiting for the club in Chicago if they walked away from all their problems in Bridgeview. That notion will be disabused, harshly.
I cannot be this pessimistic (even though I should be at this point). I expect the Fire to make the playoffs every year. {maybe not in 2015, that team was dire] I expect the Fire to go far in the playoffs every year. I expect the Fire to progess will into the US Open Cup every year. Yes, my expectations have been dashed each and every year for a decade, but I still have the expectations. With the plethora of talent around, there are only two reasons a team cannot be competitive: 1) bad ownership, not putting the resources into the team 2) bad coaching. I hope we have addressed both of those things.
One concern is communication; most posts on the team site are weeks old or are about our e-mls presence. Every other team is filled with positive news and updates while we are left with wonder what is happening with the team. The latest news story now is on rounds 3&4 of the draft when the team holds the final pick...
