Thanks for posting the highlight video. Josh has been good this season. Strikers seem to take a bit longer to develop... especially at the highest of levels... and he is only 19? Awesome. I have really been impressed with some of his holdup work... which is really important for a true 9. He certainly has the speed and size to play the position... Hope that he stays healthy and gets more minutes in the 2nd half of the season. Injuries to other players gave him his shot to play more and I think he rose to the occasion. I thought he was under-utilized after Osako returned. Not sure why his minutes dropped that much when he was showing well.?.? I like the following front 6 for Bremen:

    Rashica - Sargent - Osako
    Klaassen - Bittencourt - M. Eggestein

He seems to have the mix of size, quickness and technical ability that the US has yet to produce in a striker. Exciting prospect. This guy and Weah in a "two up top" setup against stronger sides could really form an exciting counter attack with Pulisic and Adams and so forth.

Sargent has proven more to me than Weah at this point. That injury really came at the worst time... and the severity must have been extreme to keep him out this long. You just never know who is going to reach their potential... that is why we just need quite a few more choices across all positions. Totally agree with your assessment of Josh. The US doesn't produce a ton of good strikers and Josh has shown glimpses of being the real deal.

Sargent is by far the most promising forward we have in Europe, which is not much to say. When your competition is Wright, Novakovich, Siebatcheu, Maki Tall, a long-term injured Weah, and an underrated Sabbi, well, you only have to be decent to be the best. By far.

He'll get better or he won't. Heck even if he's only a super-sub at Bremen, it's still a nice situation.
Is Wright or Siebatcheu even options anymore?

Actually I changed Sabbi to just plain underrated. I think he's the only (maybe) option outside Weah and Josh, and frankly I'm not that optimistic about Weah.

I still have hope Novakovich will lead to something. He's an option even if it's a low-skilled one.

He needs to have a healthy season before I can agree. Weah looked like he has something. If he is healthy and not playing then we can have that discussion

Premature to write them off. Wright needs to keep improving; Siebatcheu needs to play for his club and decide he'd like to play for the US.

No one can say for sure whether either will get there.

I'm pretty comfortable writing off Wright (no pun intended) as an influential NT player. Guy has 0 goals in 17 Eredivisie games this season and really doesn't look the part of even a mid-level international player.

Even Juan Agudelo had 3 in 14 in the Netherlands at the same age, and he spent time playing as a wingback for New England last season.

There's no way Wright jumps over someone like Sargent, barring a hellish streak of injuries.

Haji Wright is such a total loss I'm claiming him as an itemized deduction on my tax return for 2020.

International quality strikers, the closest we got is Altidore and he's not it. So we better pray Josh pans out. It's a desert out there.

I think Gio could play the 9.... he doesn't have elite speed... but he is good to great at a lot of other aspects of the game... including holding the ball against bigger players in order to allow his teammates time to join the attack. He could be a Higuain kind of striker. I still think he would be better at attacking center midfield or on the wings in a 4-3-3... but it wouldn't be his worst spot on the pitch IMO. Sargent on the other hand looks like a prototypical #9 and I wish that Bremen used him that way more often. He doesn't flash as well at winger. Man... you are right... there are not that many choices in the pipeline. We really need Sargent to pan out.

He is faster than Jozy, Zardes and... Sargent. Actually, looking down the youth teams I don't see any #9 as fast as Reyna. All the speed is on the wings.

Wow. Is this something that you can back up with data? Or is it your "eye-test" from clips and youth games?

Don't get me wrong, I'd love for you to be right. But you seem to be stating as fact what is likely to be appearance to you.

If we base it on goals in top 5 leagues, Josh is the only one in that realm. We really haven't produced a quality striker (other than Dempsey) in a top 5 league. Had a few who did real well in mid-tier leagues or second divisions of the big leagues.

Sorry, that's just my opinion. But I've seen plenty of all of them. He isn't Donovan fast, of course, or EJ. But, probably, Bobby Wood fast.

I'm pretty sure Gio played a decent amount of 9 at NYCFC.

Under the "Total Loss" heading, I'm sure.

Joe Max-Moore was US produced and pretty good in England, as well as McBride, but neither of them lasted too long

JMM had a string of good games in England but then crashed and burned.

In contrast McBride played for years in Fulham. He lasted long enough to name the stadium bar after him.
