I don't remember who the poster was, but I do remember that post. Why? Because I remember very well that at the time I had made a joke about the Irish descent of that O'hai girl!
I was only referring to her public interviews. I have no idea what the players thought. Many times she left me with the impression that she didn't have a clear, concise plan. Hence, my thought that she wasn't a great communicator. Vlatko always seems to have it going on. Just my 2 cents. Although, Jill did win 2 WWC, so I don't want to bring her down. Vlatko still needs to prove himself in this regard. I was just trying to make sense of the reason why fans might complain about her more than about Vlatko.
lol, but seems like its a weaker field this time around in the Olympics. if you consider that 7 out of the 8 quarter finalists at the last WC were from Europe, yet their only allocated 3 teams for this OG with usual big guns like France & Germany missing. The ones that made it; the Dutch aren't a deep team, yet their most notable player, Lieke Martens, hasn't even come back yet after playing with a broken toe in the WC final, their top FB Van Lunterin, decided to retire/Sweden recently proven twice beatable by the US/England been on a downhill slide ever since the WC(only winning 2 of their last 9 games). they'll probably add only 2 new players to their Great Britain roster if you read Guardian's well researched 'top 100 players' poll. Amercains made 19 on the list, minus Europe, the rest of the world looked pretty bad; Brazil 5, Japan 4, Australia just 2/Concacaf arch rivals Canada & Mexico with 2 & 0 respectively Sam Kerr sees off competition to be voted best female footballer in the world | Football | The Guardian in retrospect, the US should come in as huge favorites this is true; Canada decided to go more 'Euro'-nized(more tactical than physical) & so far has proven to be a disaster(poor WC showing/lost two of their last friendlies by 0-4 scores and at least Ellis always used to know how to take advantage of the supposed weakenss of weakness of woso; the inability of most opposing defenses not being able to clear the ball out of the danger zones by hitting them with an high press the poor showing though in the last OG that Ellis came into the tourney with several players with light injuries(so hence, not a !00%)/Raponoe sustained an ACL the previous November, yet still made the squad
Perhaps Vlatko remembers what happened to Sermanni when he rocked the boat too much and tried to replace veterans with young talent.
I think Bledsoe in Australia as well...although glad Campbell is getting another look. Also thought Alana Cook would be at this camp...?
As near as I can tell, Bledsoe, who is playing for Sydney FC, was not called into January camp; Williams, who is playing for Western Sydney Wanderers, was. Cook is playing at Paris SG and the international window is Jan 13- Feb 9. USA camp is Jan 5-15. PSG was under no obligation to release her.
Campbell probably sticks out as the most surprising to me. I think there are a few keepers better starting with Angelina Anderson.
The W-League season goes until mid-March. It's possible that Williams negotiated a release clause for any US call-up. The camp is Jan. 5-15 & the Olympic qualifying is Jan. 28th - Feb. 9th. I've seen references that Lynn will be in camp, but haven't seen any official confirmation yet.
I don't have any confirmed sightings, but Western Sydney thinks she is in the US. The WS Wanderers played China PR's National Team in a friendly on Sunday and won 1-0 without her. Prior to the game head coach Dean Heffernan said he will use the camp and the game to try out “a few different things”, especially given that star striker Lynn Williams will be away on a training camp with the US national team. “I want to work on a few different combinations,” added Heffernan. “We won’t have Lynn Williams so that will be an opportunity for someone to step up.” https://www.wswanderersfc.com.au/news/wanderers-westfield-w-league-team-play-china-a-friendly Game report (w/o stats): https://www.wswanderersfc.com.au/ne...wanderers-women-after-historic-win-over-china BTW, the reason for the friendly was WSW was on a bye week in the W League, their next games are January 12 and 19.
That's pretty much confirmation. I knew about the game, but thought it hadn't happened and only found fan references to her missing the game.
And there is a pic from US Soccer: No taking it easy over here. 22 days until Olympic Qualifying. 🎟 01.28: https://t.co/Il6e0iaARJ🎟 01.31: https://t.co/8RMGd7kmit🎟 02.03: https://t.co/AN1ZFjeiUQ pic.twitter.com/PPDc6beEyT— U.S. Women's National Soccer Team (@USWNT) January 6, 2020
Time to pump the breaks. Angelina Anderson is very good. She is also 19 and is very raw. Talented yes. Size yes. But you need to watch her play a few times. She is far from that level. Great kid, Great Family Great potential. Not remotely close to the level of the keepers at the full WNT level
No pump necessary. I am no expert, but from what I saw of Campbell at the collegiate level was less than stellar, in fact I didn't think she was a top 10 college keeper. Just my perspective.
Im glad Ali Krieger and Ashlyn Harris are on the roster that would suck if one of them wasn't. i mean they just got married
