I would rather it be called the Epicenter.

I would rather we be getting sponsorship money for the stadium and jerseys that would allow us to compete for quality DPs without requiring our penurious owner deplete his paltry savings...

So in the middle of the wealthiest region of the world, our crack marketing staff can find nobody to sponsor the stadium or the jerseys?

I put a little feeler out to the FO, and I was told that we are closer to getting a jersey sponsor for 2020 than a stadium sponsor.

That makes sense. If there was any hope in getting a stadium sponsor they wouldn’t bother renaming the stadium to ‘earthquakes’.

I think the quakes missed an opportunity to let the fans decide the new name of the stadium in some way. It would have served as a major distraction to the lack of any other exciting news this off season.

However I suspect the quakes didn’t want to shine a light on the fact they can’t get a stadium sponsor in the middle of one of the wealthiest regions in the world. That could make for a good ‘HAHA’ news story when the local news needs a filler story.

My rep told me it will officially be Earthquakes Stadium moving forward as they continue to go through conversations with potential naming rights partners.

Guess it's time to rename the thread or start a new one.

Unbelievable. The ownership and front office needs to get engaged!

There's a lot of cost to changing the stadium name including signage and even highway signs. Mid 6 figures or even $1MM was the number I heard. Regardless of what the cost is the point stands that they must not be anywhere close to a stadium sponsorship or they would not have done this.

We will be the only stadium in MLS without a stadium sponsor (besides Yankee Stadium and Soldier Field which are historic names): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Major_League_Soccer_stadiums

Lack of progress on the Stadium and the jersey sponsorship is a very good reason why Tom Fox was let go.

Yeah, just because the Quakes decide to go generic, doesn't mean we have to go along for the ride. It's still Avaya to me. Or the Epicenter. Or the Horshoe Magnet. Or the Luxury-Moat-&-More. Or Buckshaw 2.0. :)

And it will always be the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, as intoned by Howard Cosell. Gave me goose bumps when I walked out onto that field back in 2008.

RingCentral Coliseum doesn't have the appropriate ring.

I'm sure if 1) we had an owner who cared and 2) a kick ass/state of the art SSS we'd have a Stadium sponsorship by now. Alas, we have a tool shed, temporary-feel stadium, with a "don't care" ownership group to boot.

Why don’t we just refer to it as
    • Small Stadium

One of its better qualities. As I've previously said, I'd rather see the Rolling Stones at CBGB than Citi Field. Thankfully the Quakes don't play games at Levi's.

Actually I was referencing our Small Market mentality, but Small Market Stadium was too long

So was Tom Fox that inept or is the Earthquake brand/image that unappealing to corporations? Probably a little of both

So...I heard a rumor that the team had lined up a cannabis sponsor for both jersey and stadium and the league vetoed that.
