This is a pretty confusing post - aren’t those first four images Italian movies? The Godfather was written and directed by Italian/Italian Americans no? And Henry Hill from Goodfellas and Cuban Scarface are relevant how? You might need to explain what you mean better. I know many Italians hate the mobster stereotype which is totally fair and America has some bad history - but Italian culture is also pretty beloved here. Are you saying there is discrimination now towards Italians?
Sure and we’ve banned folks who celebrate genocidal dictators in forums like Bosnia. But while I know you are just playing gotcha - there’s a big difference between celebrating Marx and Hitler. At least the way I see it.
Do you know how many ethnicities suffered under communism? Do you know the body count that ideology amassed? In the 20th century no other ideology killed more people. To promote communism means to promote concentration camps, forced labour, forced deportations, death by starvation, executions, torture, religious oppression. But hey, at least they weren't racist. Unless, of course you were Ukrainian, Polish, Estonian, Latvian, Kazakh, Crimean, Azeri, Cossack etc. Nice straw man.
do you ban people for celebrating Churchill. he was genocidal. how about Truman, ummm Nixon, Jackson etc etc
All the Trump, Obama and Clinton supporters should be banned for celebrating perpetrators of genocidal policies in Yemen
You're the one that Google's answers and then posts the first link you find on a topic you're not well versed in. Ie everything. We've done this song and dance before. Page after page of going around in circles. So no.
It's not confusing post. Nobody considers Scarface as Cuban, or as Cuban American legacy. I also remember one similar sentence of Al Pacino in that movie: "Can't trust to Italians". Something like that. He had sort of business with them. The name Henry Hill doesn't sound as Italian, but when you see the dialogue between him and the journalist, suddenly he sounds like italian (rasp voice). Those were just some of many examples. Italians are generally described as superficial people in movies and TV Shows, with superficial dialogues. They often wear purple velvet shirt, green trousers, black - white leather shoes, they move with shoulders while they speak in the movies, large ring on their fingers shines, bracelets, necklaces...they move with finger, like he cleans his nose. Say this with rasp voice, in some dark alley street...behind the restaurant, close to two containers, and the street lamp. Use a lot of gesticulations, hugging the Franky over the shoulders. "Hey Franky, I met one of your guys, smartie pants, you know, one of those guys who don't appreciate anything, you know, mothers boy without manners. I'll tell you somethin'. When I saw that kid, it literally broke my heart, you know....like you cut my soul in two pieces with one of those large kitchen knife that aunty Drew has, you know, for her cookin' time. But this ain't important at the moment, listen to me.....I told him, hey Anthony, don't do that, you know how the guys might react, matter of reputation for Gods sake Tony. Is it so hard to avoid by being nutcase? Noooo. The kid started to cry for Gods sake. It flipped me up. I'm tellin' you, I felt him sorry at the moment, like he is one of my sons and frankly I really do consider him as my sonny boy. He ain't bright, but he is a true darling. I was touched. Business is business but you have to have the time for exchanging gifts, throw few chat notes, just so that he thinks that we care. This ain't that nice time of 70's or 80's. But it ain't bad now either. Considered him as sophisticated you know, nice suite, shiny shoes, nice ride. You know, he has one of those muscle cars, that we used in 60's. Told 'im, be tough kid, observe the legacy of your uncle and grandfather, don't be stupid Tony. With one nutcase among your associates, everythin' might turn upside down, you gettin' my point Franky. While I snap with my fingers, everythin' might turn upside down. Mark my words Franky. Use your charm Franky, hey Franky, listen to me, while I talk, look me in the eyes Franky. Time to go Franky, my wife made me perfect cannoli. Can't let her down, next time I'm bringin' cannoli to you Franky. You have to try it, super delicious, I am tellin' you, they will spin the Earth under you. And please, do the talkin' with Anthony. This kid only has me, and I kind of like that kid. He doesn't think too much. His uncle didn't think too much either. What can we do? We are family for Gods sake, the only family that we got." Such long and often senseless dialogues are present in a large scale. When you hear them, you know who they represent. The roles can have all English sounding first names, Anthony, Vincent, Joseph, Mark, but at the end we see that they are Italians. In my short script nothing could imply about the ethnic group of these people. But somehow we know... It ain't all. You understand me. There is much more involved in something called culture. I invented the movie scene, it ain't the copy of some third class movie. I'm talkin' about the real deal here.
So were all the presidents who condoned slavery which was supported by the Democrat party. Its still a wonder why FDR/Truman exploded an atomic bomb on Japan.. Who cares if Japan continued to fight? At that point the war in Europe anyway was over. I can't believe how they pulled that off....
Jewish Hollywood have been smearing people of Italian descent before I was even alive. Their greatest hit job ever was Saturday Night Fever. Coppola knew all about them though and their pedophilia. Guilty otherwise Paramount would have never cut the pedo scene out of the Original Godfather II. Canaanites.
Actually, it was GF1 where studio head Jack Woltz who awoke in bed with the severed head of his prized stallion who had an affair with a young girl. They cut out that scene. I think it was in the book and it was placed back in the Godfather Saga series. Stefania Stefanelli wo played Michael's first wife in Sicily was 16 years at the time of filming.
Her daughter Violante Placido was in the American with George Clooney along with Paolo Bonacelli who played Rifki in Midnight Express.
Oh wow. I didn't realize Placido was Stefanelli's daughter. Paolo Bonacelli was/is a great actor too..
Dean Martin and John Saxon had to change their names. Basically, it seems that Italians arrived to USA from Sicily at the end of 19th century and started to form their societies there. In movies, Italians gained reputation in 70's, 80's mostly. I don't know any nice movie that could include the theme about Cristoforo Colombo, Amerigo Vespucci....I don't see movies about the Columbus Day (Holiday). In the early 20th century, Italian Americans were involved in comic book art or industry. No one makes biographical, art movies about these people: Joseph Barbera, John Buscema, Dick Giordano, Don Rosa... Buscema was a Marvel Comics author. Rosa was a Disney author. Who knows these data? Who knows about the movie of painter called Robert De Niro, Sr. Everyone knows about the Junior and his movies. Other painters: Carla Carli Mazzucato, Tony Sisti, Sheila Giolitti...no movies about them. Severo Antonelli, Justin Guariglia... Sculptors: Vincent Cavallaro Jasper D'Ambrosi John DeAndrea Joe De Santis Arturo Di Modica Mark Di Suvero Virginio Ferrari Corrado Parducci Piccirilli Brothers Italo Scanga Movies about: Anthony Adducci, Antonio Meucci, Jacuzzi, Francis Rogallo, Dr. Andrew Viterbi...are unknown. But we always see actors with roles from darker side. Even roles of police forces went negative (the role in one movie made by Dennis Farina). The movie about Joe DiMaggio was made most probably, because he was involved in relationship with M. Monroe. So many nice chances for historical, artistic, sports, business, biographical movies: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Italian_Americans Instead of that, we always see this: "Hey Mikey, hey Vinny, hey Carmine, I found a made man, decent guy with class. Come, introduce yourselves with him. I know this kid since he had played with my children. Gotta love him. He spent more time under my roof than my own children. You know, he acts as loyal figure, no negative intentions, you know, my kind of guy, trust me on this. His mother Phyllis makes charity dinners with my wife Estelle. Really nice family. Hey Estelle, bring us more of your nice ravioli. Please, Estelle, guests are waiting, we don't wanna disappoint them. So, Mikey, Vinny, Carmine, lemme introduce you with my trustworthy kid. This is Anthony "Think Twice" Costello. His nature is a pure bliss. But you don't wanna mess around that kid. Bada boom, bada ba. You know what I'm sayin'. Hey Anthony...Mikey, Vinny and Carmine are like brothers to me...respect them and they will treat you smoothly. Here, visit boutiques, buy yourself nice suites, renovate your closet a little. Alligator shoes, new haircut, fancy shirts, come with class...It's on us Anthony." If you place actors from Latvia, Switzerland, Sweden and if they start to speak such sentences, everyone would quit from watching. But when you see that they are Italians....you expect sort of specific conclusion. Before, everything in the movies, shows was represented as popular culture. Today, some things ended as discrimination. But Italians in movies, TV Shows are still popular culture?? Not a single prejudice or discrimination. You can mask yourself in a pirate, Santa Clause, Leprechaun, Snowhite...but you can't mask yourself in Aladdin. There are not many differences between Aladdin and Santa Clause. The movies or TV Shows of other ethnic groups usually promote spiritual and cultural values of certain ethnic group. But in case of Italians, it's always "sort of a business". Someone is always wired...a snitch...I watch movies for a around 30 years. Since I can remember them. The negative figure in Christmas movie Home Alone 1,2 is once again Italian: Joe Pesci. But no one comments the potential occupations of father, or uncle in those movies. Either some superficial characters, roles, or some thugs, with rasp voice, flippin' cars, or they end in sitcom shows: Richie "Moose" Ianucci (King of the Queens), mostly clueless, superficial roles "Wach yout tokin' baut"... I know that many Italians around the world don't like that kind of reputation.
