I see us beating Venezuela 1-0 and maybe Peru 1-0. ^^^^

All the other games 0-0 with Queiroz's tactics. :ROFLMAO:

That's 12 points and +2. Not ideal but not so bad either.

Yup, but we will all have epic conversations and debates in the Scoring situation thread that is for sure.

Meltdowns galore! If the results played out like that, at least two us will not make it to 2022 LOL

To give a little more perspective in 2018 qualifiers, we were 5th after 8 matches, but we fell to 6th in matchday 12 (Loss to Argentina). Then we climbed to 2nd thanks to victories against Bolivia and Ecuador and a Draw against Venezuela. We were winningless in the last 4 matches.

Also, here is how many points we earned against our rivals:

    Argentina 0
    Brasil 1
    Uruguay 1
    Peru 4
    Chile 2
    Ecuador 6
    Paraguay 3
    Venezuela 4
    Bolivia 6

In all honesty, they should have been wins against Peru and Paraguay in the last two matchdays, but the team looked nervous and lacked concentration in critical moments.

My two cents are these: We are not a powerhouse and we will very likely struggle at some point and we might drop points at inadequate moments, but having a very competitive confederation also plays in our favor, since most teams will drop several points too.

The biggest change from the start of previous qualifiers is that we are all playing our direct rivals more frequently...more friendlies, more Copas and now qualifiers begin. Any strategic, physical or even skill advantages we once may have had over direct or weaker rivals has since been smaller.

Argentina and Brazil will also have plenty of pain along the way.

That is a way to look at it.
On the other side of the coin the friendlies were needed for us and can be a blessing in disguise.
Qualifying last cycle started just a few months after the Copa America.
This time around we had many friendlies to experiment in which (I hope) helps the Manager figure out what he wants to do come next year.
It would have sucked to just fly right into qualifying with Queiroz basically having less time to prepare the team and less familiarity with the talent pool.

Not saying Bernardo as a starter but to call Jeison over him was fking bizzare and lazy. Same as Oscar.

for me I hope our CBs are Mina, Davison and Lucumi. 4-5th can rotate but we need to look at younger guys as our CBs are super young

Bernardo is 30, Jeison is 27. Mina, Davinson and Lucemi are the 3 for sure, I think we should be bringing in Cuesta who is 20 and is playing games this season in the champions league at a good level as the 4th, especially because he and Lucemi are playing together at club. Bernardo is filler.

Cuesta and potentially Lucumi are the CBs for the Olympics. Sadly club level they take minutes from each other

Jeison has been irrelevant since he scored against Brazil. He has been really bad for club and country. Calling him is calling a name and a extra guy to hit X amount of cbs you need to call

him being called over a guy in the domestic league just goes damn leave Colombia or South America because you can start for your club and get over looked for 8th choice in a club about to get demoted from Italy

I think Lucumi makes the Copa America Roster so that probably means no Olympics.
Cuesta could make it but it would all depend on if his club would allow him to play.

Lucemi and Cuesta over a 30y/o Bernardo who's just not that great is easy. These guys have performed well in the Champions league and are the future. Jeison hasn't been consistent but he's started 9 games for Sampdoria who are running below expectation but are basically a mid table side. He just transferred to Celta Vigo where he's started his first two games. Bernardo has played 15 games for the team that is dead last in La Liga, he's older, has never been part of the system and is a dead end with no real room to go higher as a player. There's arguments to not call Jeison but Bernardo isn't one of them and I doubt you've even watched any of his games.

If we want an older player it should be 100% Cristian Zapata who's been involved in the program and is a very good person to have as an older example if we need depth or someone to play in a pinch, but still Lucemi and Cuesta imo should be the guys who are 3 and 4 imo with Zapata the last up and if Jeison gets consistent again then he can have another look too.

    This sounds reasonable to me.

To Crzd though you just exploded his mind. Prepare for the meltdown.

Cristian zapata has always been solid for the NT I would gladly welcome him for any call up

Such a shame he didn’t take off like he should have. I could have seen him as a 100+ cap guy for us.

matter Guerro injured him with an elbow to the face in a game vs Peru. He started to suck. Especially after leaving Udinese he just was never the same player.

Is Zapata injured he hasn’t been playing for a team in Italy about to get demoted.

my thing is stop calling names because of a past. Zapata is a zombie stop calling him. Our starters are really young call guys around their age.

zapata isn’t a Yepes who you can say can lead a team or a defense. So him having experience is silly
