Anyone else have problems with the app crashing? I noticed there was a pending upgrade a week ago, which I did, and had crash problems over the weekend.

I wish ... my Garmin battery won't make it through a match anymore. :(

Is this different than the normal Garmin Connect app on the phone?

I have a forerunner 35 so it somewhat basic. Not sure which app you’re referring to.

That perfectly wonderful German(?) $4 soccer ref app.

I thought it was from England, but yes, the RefWatch app for the Garmin. (Think of it as having a Spintso inside your Garmin--I don't know which models it works on, I have a vivoactive.) It's a great app I've been using for a couple of years--at least until last weekend when it shut itself off at full time of the first half instead of vibrating . . .

I did the upgrade and only noticed it changed my preferences. Didn't realize it until the start of the match and ran with the default preferences and it performed fine for two matches.

Great idea. It's usually bad news anyway.

Is there anything new and useful in the update?

I used mine to time the game while I coached this weekend (GPS turned off), had no issues.

I will say, I left it home before our Championship game (local tournament), and really wanted to turn around and get it to ward off bad luck. We did end up losing, and I am sure it was because I forgot the watch...

Update was on 12/2 From the developer. Version 5.11 fixed a bug causing a crash while saving/discarding the activity.

The last time I updated (which was a couple of weeks ago), I saw that I could add a fifth default time option (so now I have 45, 40, 35, 30, and 18 minute halves - the 18 is for futsal at my local indoor facility). I haven't had any issues with crashes.

That would be useful ... our U10's are 25.

    I still blow up using the 5th preset slot. . . . I'm hoping that it's just for that slot . . . .

I just used the Custom Time feature last night and had no issues. What SW version of the VA3 are you using?

Press the watch face to bring up Menu> Settings>System>About>SW Versions

    My VA3 has the following:
    SW 7.2
    GPS 2.5
    TSC 2.1
    Sensor 6.6
    WHR 20.03.31
    Connect IQ 3.1.6

How do you do that? I turned off GPS in the watch settings, but it still turns on when I start the ref app.

    I haven’t done it—but I thought that’s what spectator mode was

Ah, I thought I had tried that, but I will try it again. Sometimes when you think you have changed a setting in that app you really have not.

OK that might have done it. The little "GPS" in upper left stays red now. Thanks.

BTW I updated to the newest version and it seems to be working fine, including setting the fifth custom time to 25.

If you want to still record activities but not use GPS, set the mode to Indoor. It then basically uses your steps to calculate distance. I use this mode when I work inside where the GPS doesn’t work.

I updated to the latest version and put it in indoor/futsal mode. Now I can't access the settings menu so it's stuck on 15 minute single period games.

Maybe I need to uninstall and reinstall.

I've been having problems using the new 5th custom time feature. It would crash at the end of the half. The other 4 worked, as well as the actual true custom time. I've sent an e-mail to the developer. Funny reading the reviews. He gets really mad if someone posts a negative review and asks why they didn't reach out to him first. I e-mailed Saturday night, no response yet. Still love the app though

Andreas emailed me. Just needed to do a long press on the up arrow button. Never had to do that before (a short press worked) but apparently that's how you get to the menu in Garmin native apps. Just shows how rarely I have used those before!
