If we play like we did last night against Estudiantes de Caseros vs. Flamengo we'll get absolutely crushed.

I think its bad whenever a coach gets in the habit of just putting the same XI every since week regardless of performance. Obviously, many of these players deserve to be given confidence of the manager, but if you know you have your place, are going to work as hard?

I also think Pratto has been hurt by Gallardo's policy of not rotating his squad, same with Scocco. When he first came back form injury, he was banging in goals left, right, and center, but with almost no playing time recently he has looked out of rhythm and poor. Even Juanfer Quintero, who is the best player in Argentine football by a wide margin, looks out of sync with his teammates and lack of playing time is definitely a factor.

I also don't think Martinez Quarta should be playing. He cost us the match against Rosario Central and he was poor last night. He has been careless with the ball for a while now, he almost gifted boca a goal in El Monumental, but Capalbo fired it over the bar.

I don't want to sound too negative when we've reached two Finals this semester, but I think Gallardo is managing the team all wrong and his strategy and tactics against Boca were a disaster all three matches.

For me, Diaz, Scocco, and Quintero should've all start the Final, but they haven't been given a proper run of games to be ready, so we'll see the same line up as always and I fear for us against this Flamengo side.

AGAIN I hope I am eating my words eight days from now, but the results and performances have been very poor and many individual players should lose their places, but won't

Luckily he has history on his side, but my lord.... Julian Alvarez as the first sub when you have Scocco on the bench? Quintero? (!!)

    Gallardo is a madman

Hate to say this guys, buy I think Gallardo outcoached himself on this one. For me, the subs should've been Quintero for Nacho and Scocco for Suarez. Absolutely gutted, but we're still competing in the Superliga and have a final for the Copa Argentina. Gotta put this one behind us and move forward

You’re absolutely right, @ElMuneco... and that’s probably the part that stings the most (besides losing in the dying minutes): our own decisions in the second half served the comeback on a platter for Flamengo

It really is incredible that the two most skilled players in the squad didn’t even see a minute in the final.... even more incredible that an unripe kid who has yet to put out a standout performance was brought in ahead of them to replace one of our most fundamental midfielders. It really is like we did everything to lose it.

Alas, we played our cards wrong and got what we deserved in return. At least all the recent successes minimize this loss, but it’s a shame we practically shot our ownselves in the leg.

Now lets win the Copa Argentina and Superliga... hopefully we don’t have to rebuild too heavily in the next transfer window (peso devaluation linked to players’ contracts + a need to recuperate “lost” Libertadores/CWC prize money that was expected to alleviate the club’s finances)

I felt Gallardo outcoached JJ in the first half by far. Not sure what led Gallardo to make his sub choices, but it definitely aided in the comeback. Despite the letdown at the end, you definitely have plenty to hold your head up high. You came dangerously close to going back-to-back, which is very difficult to do. You also provided us with our most stern test all year. I know this game was a bitter pill to swallow, but still plenty of positives and I am sure our paths will cross down the road again.

P.S. - weren't you the user who was going for Fluminense many years back?

Gallardo I think did the first sub as a response to JJ who brought Diego instead of a Gerson(CAM For CM/CDM) . He tried to change the formation, and in my opinion He also saw that Nacho is exhausted and wanted someone fresh for retaining the pressure on the ball.

In my opinion He should have brought Quintaro instead of Nacho/Striker. That could have given River much more skill and possession upfront.

Yes sir, that is correct. Congrats on the win. Thought we were going to come away with another but like I said in my previous post, I think Gallardo outcoached himself in the loss

Thank god we were able to flip the score on Newell’s after the dumbass who no one has ever heard of celebrated their second goal like Gabigol to insult us. Looks like his ignorant ass rubbed our players the wrong way since three goals followed to send him back to his cave with his head down. Should have learned from Benedetto to not be a douche until the final whistle.

On a side note, seeing just how effective Scocco and Quintero were coming off the bench vs Newell’s made Gallardo’s substitution choices in the final hurt even more. What could have been, but it is what it is...

I think time will make the loss in that final hurt even more because the substitutions were just so baffling. I think I'll be 90 years old one day telling my grandkids how river had quintero on the bench in Lima...

Obviously, Gallardo will use the excuse that neither player was 100% fit, but then he put in pratto who was at fault for losing the match and looked like complete shit.

Theres really no way to excuse what Gallardo did in Lima, truly strange

Anyone else concerned with Suarez’s form? He was impeccable in the first half of the year, being the man of the match in countless games and serving as the differencemaker in the Recopa vs Atletico Paranaense... It seemed everytime the ball was at his feet it was an imminent danger to the opposition. However, he hasn’t been the same since returning from Copa America with the NT.

Maybe not having a break and missing part of the club’s regular preseason hurt him a bit in the end. Sure, he was very important in the Libertadores series vs Boca with his assist to Nacho, but other than that he looks nothing like the guy that arrived from Belgrano. Against Flamengo he was an absolute ghost, much like in the second leg vs Boca, and now vs San Lorenzo he also gave a very poor showing. All this without considering his missed penalty vs Cruzeiro (sure, it could happen to anyone... but it just shows how nothing has been going right for him) and a handful of other really bad games.

I still like him as a player and know he still has plenty to offer, but maybe it should be time to reconsider his untouchable spot within the starting eleven. Everyone should earn their spot and whoever is in best form should play.... it seems after that impeccable game vs Racing Gallardo lost notion of that and jus kept playing the same players week in and week out even when it didn’t make sense

We got Sao Paulo, Liga de Quito and Binacional (PER) in the Group Stage of the 2020 Copa Libertadores

    Tough competition...

Sao Paulo underwent somewhat of a resurrection over the last year and now count with the likes of Dani Alves (who is used as a playmaker) and Alexandre Pato. May not be a fully-stacked Flamengo, but they aren't the pushovers they had become in recent years either. Third year in a row we get a Brazilian side in our group (2017 Flamengo, 2018 Internacional)

LDUQ is always a tough team in the altitude of Quito. This year they beat Flamengo 2-1 in the Libertadores group stage, for example. Also, this is a team we have never been able to beat in Ecuador (3 losses, 2 ties) despite eliminating them in all three of our direct continental knockout faceoffs.

Binacional may seem like the weakest of the bunch given their lack of continental experience (after all they are the only team in the group to have never won the Libertadores), but they may provide a surprise. Juan Aurich showed us not to underestimate these small sides in 2015, and believe it or not they are the current Peruvian champions: they won the Apertura (league title) and then beat Alianza Lima in the season playoff final. Important note: their home stadium is also at a high elevation (3,825m above sea level, 1,000m higher than Quito!)

Should be fun.. We are set to begin our Libertadores journey the first week of March in Quito. We'll be closing the group at home vs. Sao Paulo in May.

"Muy bien" first half without a lot of missing players (M. Quarta, Quintero for example). If River could concentrate better in the second half they will get the 3 points. In the 60. minutes I would bring Scocco X Suárez. ¡Vamos River!

Carrascal at it again in the U-23 Pre-Olympic tournament, with another absolute golazo

He also provided a fantastic assist for Colombia's third goal. Lets see if this is Jorgito's year...
