This is the test off-season of the new Arena era. Is he going to be able to do what Burns routinely failed to do? I’m hopeful too but also eager to see it really work. I think they are only a couple pieces away from being a top five team. They could also do too little and settle back down to the bottom of the middle third.

Lets see what Arena does (if anything) in the reentry draft. Its amazing how many exRevs are listed. Some, recent members, others, from the past.
I think Juan was making too much money for what his role was. I also wonder if he is not picked up in the re-entry draft, could the Revs offer him less money and get him back ..... like they do in football?
I dont care about the orthers that were waved, cut or whatever. Im happy Mancienne is gone as he was never worth the money in my opinion. I see several players that are available that could help the Revs short, term. I'll be interested to see if Arena does anything in Tuesday.
I have no faith on the college draft. I dont care if we have 20 picks... that rarely results in a useful player. We have 3/4 a player from the last draft and he is still developing

    True that. For many years.

[But for years it gave the Revs ** something ** to tweet about, to look like they were "doing something" re: improving the roster, when in reality the draft was having no real impact, and best of all no real impact on the spend level.]

have to say that I am relieved that Mancienne, Castillo and Agudelo are off the roster. They were overpaid and under performed.
2020 looks to be perhaps the most exciting off season for the Revs in a long time, possible every. the Revs have for the new season:
    1. New player Alex Buttner at the start of camp
    2. 2.5 million in cap space
    3. 5 of the top 43 picks in the draft (not that important any more but notable)
    4. Bou and Gil playing in pre season together
    5. Stage 1 and 2 of the re-entry Draft starting this week
    6. Approx 2 months before the start of the MLS season
    7. Perhaps most importantly a FO that knows how to find players and understands what it takes to get them signed

Some of the money opened up by releasing these guys was used on #1.

If nothing else, having a reserve team means that some of the guys drafted at least will have a chance to play and develop, and there is a chance that maybe someone will emerge to be a useful first-teamer in a couple of years. There was never any chance of that happening in the past.

There's a lot of very valid criticism of previous management, but I think, in general, they made pretty good decisions on who to keep and who to let go. Yes, there was Larentowicz, Sinovic and Parkhurst (who didn't really give the Revs an option to bring him back), but they are most of the exceptions. Most of the players we moved on from didn't do a whole lot afterwards.
I think Agudelo is the kind of player that will draw immediate attention in the 2nd part of the waiver draft (unless it's changed, if you claim someone in the first part, you accept their current contract - in the 2nd part, you get the negotiating rights to try to reach a new contract agreement).

I could be wrong, but I don't think the Revs can select their own players - I think they already had a window to renegotiate their contracts and were unable or unwilling to.
Well, if you don't consider Bye or Dejuan Jones useful, then I guess you are right. The reserve team immediately adds value to the cache of picks, because there will be a much greater opportunity to not only show the value they bring, but also they'll have more time to grow and develop. So, I'm actually pretty excited that this year we do have so many picks.

I thought about that but the timing is off unless they knew well over a month ago that they were going to be parting ways with those guys. Word of Buttner signing was back in mid October before the Atlanta play off game

And, one more thought about Agudelo - he had one great run (I don't know if it was the year Nguyen had his big season, but somewhere around there), where he scored big goals in a majority of a 10+ game run. And, it seemed like each one was scored in a different way, some in really audacious fashion. It was an amazing run and I think has left everyone tantalized about what he could possibly do. Unfortunately, except for the odd goal here or there, he hasn't been able to reproduce that magic.

The Agudelo moment that sticks most in my mind was the time at Yankee Stadium, where early in the game, he had a sitter in the 6-yard box and instead of tapping it in to the open net, he tried to backheel it in. He missed. We lost the game by a goal.

No doubt he is a talented player. I think his down side is he seems to get injured a lot. They seem mainly small knocks. I also think he has a lack of desire to push himself to the next level. That could also explain the knocks as his training habits may be suspect. I remember seeing they re-signed him and thought "that's fine, they probably signed him at a lower price. When i realized they gave him a raise after coming off a season where he had 3 goals and 4 assists it just reaffirmed in my eyes the FO was clueless

The $2.5M figure you're seeing is the removal of the contracts of Mancienne/Castillo/Swags, etc.

Of course, the opposite side of that was that they shouldn't have been here either since they weren't good enough to go elsewhere and do much.

    Oh well.

Let me begin by saying that Mancienne seems like a real nice guy. Really nice.

But - injured back at start of season, debilitating fasciitis mid-season, and not the sort of commanding CB presence one would hope for. All in all, less than what is needed.

I'm feeling less certain about the direction things are headed with this move.

This story re: BWP has percolated on social media a bit over the past few days -

Meanwhile, as the Revs re-up with Mance and his fasciitis feet and creaky back, some on social media are saying the Revs passed on BWP **due to injuries**.

Hopefully, "renegotiated" translates to "less money".

They've already got 2 backup keepers, so why do we need a third?
