Lletget isn't blazing, but all last night he received the ball or won it back, turned and sprinted. He's pretty good in open space and stays vertical.

Green's game is much more pause, create space, pause, hold the ball against a defender. He tends to move horizontal more than vertical, and tends to move more calmly, but in a measured way.

Lletget's not nearly as good at that -- and he's not nearly as good a finisher. If we were playing a really defensive 442 against a good team and needed someone to be the guy who plays off the hold up striker with little support, Green would be much better than Lletget. But in that game last night? I will take Lletget everyday.

McKennie was terrible, I agree. Damn, he played like a neighborhood kid, passing to the wrong team half the time.

Also: several posters made a big deal out of no interest in a post-game thread.

I will point out this has more to do with Big Soccer posters than anything else.

If we had lost, this would be pages and pages long. And people are more than eager to post incessantly about Julian Green but don't want to comment anything positive about the game last night.

Sooo many posters here are so mentally invested in their positions, they can't actually enjoy anything if they aren't proven right. It's a good time.

Beyond it being a 1-game sample, I don't think last night represented the US turning a corner because there was a special motivator in place, which was revenge against Canada. We saw how much of an impact that played against T&T. Early in Copa America it was against fans who dared criticize the national team for their putrid play and Zardes' touch. At the very beginning of Bruce's tenure it was not revenge but the honeymoon effect. Subsequent to all of those games or stretches, we experienced diminishing returns.

I envision the same problems rearing their ugly head next round of this tourney on the road. Wouldn't be shocked if we struggle to beat Cuba on the road even (Canada only beat them by 1), though don't expect it, especially if they play that dumb pressure tactic to allow us space in behind again. But if they play organized, who knows with our lack of deftness in tight spaces and creativity on the wings. Offense could end up a lot of toothless possession.

OR maybe the negativity and apathy is well-earned, and we should be expected to beat the likes of Canada at home. If we beat Mexico I'm sure there would be a post-game thread with plenty of activity.

It's just also kind of natural there's more to talk about when things go awry because we're brainstorming potential solutions to the problems or venting to people who share the same frustrations.

You're invested in your meta criticisms and defense of a program that deserves their own right now. To some degree, you are shooting messengers.

Perhaps. But I just find it funny how many people only want to complain. Who wants to go through life that way?

Man it must be nice being so much better than everyone else.

Fun fact: you were the first person to mention Julian in this thread.

Man, you keep falling back on that, huh?

Are you going to respond why it's okay to question some players' effort but it's weak for others?

I don't even want to hear Adams name related to NT untill he is playing injury free for RB at least for 3 months. And Wes needs to know that playing like yesterday can loose him starting position. It's more than enough to have MB as a starter for life.

Media for the most part acting like Egg Head was vindicated. How far have we fallen that beating Canada at home speaks to some sort of accomplishment.

    Interesting stat.

This may be part of a bigger picture problem too. We're playing very few matches against top 50 sides.

This program in the last however many years gets a false sense of accomplishment and security from games like yesterday's. The media eats it up. They don't learn.

Frankly it's a real concern we are where we are and Egg Head seems to have played fewer quality sides than any of his predecessors in the modern era.

Playing in next summer's Copa America would have been a true test.

Cmon jond. I’m a big critic but they put up that slide that has the ranking right there. If they were lapping it up, there’s no need to put the opponents ranking. US pundits are now questioning the emperor a bit - that’s a huge sign that things are really bad.

But how often do we have our starting xi available? 1 out of every 20 games? It's about cultivating 2 and 3 deeps of players who we can with with, while having 2-3 gamebreakers on the field at a given time.

Pomykal, Lletget, Parks, Aaronson, etc. at the 10 seems like a straight-forward choice. Sufficient defense and outletting between passing and dribbling.

Pulisic doesn't add enough defensively and makes suspect decisions in the build-up, while you keep him away from the final 3rd where he can be lethal. A-wing is also our weaker spot. So I'd consider it a mortal sin to play him at the 10 a significant amount of games.

Pulisic, Morris, and Weah are the options befitting of a US national team starter for the 2 a-wing spots. Everybody else, like an Arriola, are sub-par. Not only does he lack creativity, but his touch has went to s**t since he left Mexico. He was very fundamental. If we don't have 2 of the 3 aforementioned players available a system which involves a-wings should be scrapped for a diamond or 3-5-2, depending on opponent.

6 and 8 options are Adams, McKennie, Yueill. They're pretty interchangeable if you're style flexible. You aren't, you further limit what's viable. If you play 2 8-10's w/ defensive chops, like Aaronson and Pomykal, you expand alternatives. I think that's what the manager is going to need to be willing to do because often we'll have a couple d-mids not available.

Feel pretty good about the depth at cb. It's about calling in the right guys there consistently - Brooks, Long, Miazga, Robinson, Zimmerman. Ream is a utility, deep bench option. Ideally want a better ball-playing cb behind Brooks. Hopefully Richards moves quickly in Bayern's system or gets a loan.

Similar equation when it comes to fullbacks - Dest, Cannon, Yedlin, Lima, Robinson. Ream is a utility guy. Gotta be willing to play right-footers at lb and it's about selecting the right guys, like not Lovitz.

At gk I think it's just Steffen and Horvath. But Horvath hasn't been integrated due to supposed inability to play out of the back and getting screwed over by Brugge. So we're tenuous when Steffen can't play, like now. Good thing we aren't playing tougher teams.

There's a lot that needs to be sorted when it comes to 2 and 3 deeps to have reliable, consistent play w/ the national team. Put ourselves behind the 8 ball the last several years and the pool isn't the strongest, though depth is better than normal.

The best part of this expected results that we no longer have Canadian interlopers on our part of the forum telling us how they’ve caught up to us.

Like 80% of your posts are complaining about other posters.

You are on the right track with my MB a post. I was responding to a user saying chandler shouldn’t play for USMNT because he is “old and played half-assed”

My point is that it’s a weak argument. I can make it for Bradley or anyone else. It’s easy for us to sit on our couch questioning effort.

I think that mckennie, who runs his ass off every game, who has suffered injuries with us, who has played through injuries with us, who was talking about his excitement for this game, tried his best last night. Agree to disagree.

It should have been 6-0, but 4-1 is a positive result. Most troubling was the Canadian goal. We're still making too many mental in defense. Lack of concentration. This needs to be addressed or we don't qualify for Qatar.

to be fair, they spanked us in Toronto. That’s on us and he got to say,”scoreboard.” I’m still pissed at that even after a 4-3 home/away result. That’s not good enough.

I literally forgot they were playing and 3 hours after the game their was no post game.

USSF is dead. It is over and time to embrace acceleration-ism to rock bottom.

I'm starting to suspect our fans are outnumbered not only in the stadiums....

It's weird to see most people here happier when we lose. When we win, it's crickets.

You can almost feel the bitterness in the air.

How long will it take people to understand that not having a position has a tendency to be a problem.

Let him find his footing with Schalke under Wagner. Egg seems to depend a little on Ream for that left side and Ream is not getting any younger. McKennie might fit as a hybrid cb/lb/lmid. However, 3 years from now, who knows what position he is playing?

I don't think so. I have been around here a very long time. Right now, no one gives a shit and are still very very salty. People who were the most rabid fans just don't care anymore. They don't relate to this team and the way they play. Watching MB walk over to that corner flag at T&T changed my view on this team forever. They need to earn that back because that is not the team I knew growing up. McBride breaking every bone in his face, Frankie doing 80 yard runs in the 95th minute, Landon winning the WC game. THAT is the team I remember and love...not this empty shell.

The USSF has a lot of ground to make up with their fans. The ticket costs, nepotism, "home games" in Los Angeles, lack of any accountability by apparently anyone.....ever. Remember Bruce Arena was on TV analyzing soccer a week after T&T.....it was mind biggling-ly tone deaf. They just don't care and the fans now don't care because they see now.
