It was strange that they showed the wrong footage first, but when they showed the right one, it was still offside. Ajax’ player his shoulder was still offside so it was the right call after all. Red card for Veltman was bullsh*t though.
Even freeze framing 10 different angles it is impossible to know with certainty. There is no way they would have called that goal off if not for the wrong footage being provided. With the other footage it was just too uncertain. Look at Chelsea’s second goal in this game, the ref obviously judged it to be too close to call. There was also another bad offside call that game which lead to a penalty for Ajax not being given. And then this game... It’s insane that two reds and a penalty were given in one play. The ball was blasted into Veltman’s arm which was entirely at his side. A penalty was already harsh, but a penalty AND a red card for an unintentional handball is insane. That flipped the entire game. Personally I never have to hear whinging from Chelsea fans about the Barca game ever again. At least I guess the game was entertaining for neutral viewers...
He’s been playing further forward for Dortmund of late, did he play left or right back in this game?, further forward at Madrid is packed at the moment, I like this player though, hope he makes it
Considering how bad our fullbacks have been in defense, being serviceable in defense and strong in attack would be more than ok.
Fair enough but I think Mendy has been more than“serviceable” in defense, he just needs more games, I think he’s been a breath of fresh air as a defensively sound fullback so far actually, I’m pretty sure once he settles down in the team he will be decent when attacking too, we’ll see
How does he keep making runs in attacking position at the right time? Wtf so many goals for a fullback
I'm referring to Dani and Marcelo, Mendy hasn't played that much TBH. He looks promising in defense so I'm hopeful but it's very early.
Football reporting during the season: Di Maria is a wizard, Icardi is a beast, Guardiola transformed Aguero, Banega is a complete midfield player, Lautaro can do it all, Ocampos is superb. Football reporting during the summer: Messi can't do it all on his own.
Arsene Wenger is now the leading candidate to become the next Bayern Munich manager, sources have told ESPN FC.He is expected to speak with Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge later this week to discuss the position. pic.twitter.com/5sI7XlwqSv— ESPN FC (@ESPNFC) November 6, 2019
I'd still be willing to give him a shot. The quality of players at Madrid would be a clear upgrade over Arsenal and I think that would be the difference in title wins (not that he left Arsenal empty handed but ultimately the complaint was that although his teams play well they never win anything).
Apparently the players are rebelling against the club at Napoli, Ancelotti could get sacked because of a lack of results, Carlo himself doesn't want to cooperate with some of the measures the club has been taking. He has the support of the players.
I never got the sense their president was a respectable person.. I read that Carlo wants to quit not that he was getting sacked, he did not attend the post game PC
The modern fullback is essentially a winger with defensive responsibility. Full disclaimer, I have not been keeping up with Dortmund this season especially since Pulisic left, but I suspect Hakimi's defense is not entirely stellar. That being said, neither is the likes of TAA and he's being talked about as one of the best right-backs in the world. Offensive production from the fullback position is becoming a crucial element of the game. Hakimi could have just as much potential as TAA.
Agreed in that the defensive contribution from the full back is a little overrated, especially for big teams, although Trent Alexander is a pretty good defensive player as well. You can see how the defensive issues became more of an issue when the offensive contributions dropped off for Marcelo and Carvajal, because the benefits no longer outweighed the deficiencies.
I hope this doesn't offend you, but this is probably the most idiotic thing I've ever heard. Since I was a child people have been talking about the modern attacking fullback. It's not modern if it's been present for over 40 years. Being a Real Madrid fan, it's even more shameful saying the above because you're literally talking about the stereotype that was exemplified by Roberto Carlos. You know a player who started his career over 20 years ago.
I hope this doesn't offend you, but if that's the most idiotic thing you've ever heard, you must be living under a rock. My post was not denying the existence of attacking fullbacks in past years. It was simply alluding to the fact that good fullbacks may not necessarily be good defenders, proceeded by the crux of my post which was a brief evaluative comment on Hakimi.
Another game, another bench warming duty for Llorente. pic.twitter.com/xUNLaHVtTy— M•A•J (@Ultra_Suristic) November 6, 2019
