Lamela is out again with a hamstring injury, the dude just cannot stay fit. Vertonghen is doubtful with a hamstring as well, while Rose is suspended for having picked up 5 yellow cards, which is no surprise considering how poor he has been. Sessegnon is available for selection, although it would be a big ask to throw him to the wolves at Goodison. Would like to see Lo Celso feature, however, since there is no point playing Eriksen, who has his mind elsewhere. Everton are one of the few teams in worse form than us, with 6 losses in their last 8, but we have already lost to a Brighton side that had only won 4 of their last 30 games, so there is no certainty with Spurs these days.
1. We still do not know how to manage games when we are in control, whether it is through poor finishing, poor defending, or bonehead decisions. 2. Son has to learn how to control his temper. A minute prior to his sending off, he was upset that the inept Martin Atkinson had not given a foul against Gomes for elbowing the Korean in the face. It was one of many missed calls by one of the many poor referees in the PL. However, that is no reason to take justice into your own hands. Just like at Bournemouth last season, Son lost his rag and at the first chance he got, he couldn't resist leaving a foot in on Gomes. 3. It was NOT a red. Again, Atkinson showed his incompetence. My sympathies to Gomes, but his injury was not a result of the Son challenge. Yes, it was a foul and a yellow, but never a red. What was the equally inept VAR Anthony Taylor doing in the studio? 4. VAR is a total shambles. Aside from not reviewing the Son incident, Taylor took almost 3 minutes to determine that a clear Deli hand ball in our area was not a penalty. How come VAR is working in every other league except the PL? Maybe there is a reason no English referee was included in the last WC. 5. Our attack is extremely poor. The Deli goal really was the only scoring chance we created in 114 minutes of football. We still have too many quality players underperforming.
pretty much have to agree on everything...definitely a pen on Alli; not a red on Son but still a stupid foul.
On a positive note, Lo Celso and Sessegnon got into the game, so for the first time this season, all 3 new signings featured for us. Hopefully, we will see more of them. Eriksen for me is a write-off, yet again he was a no-show and if Lo Celso is up to speed, he should be featuring ahead of the Dane.
Son’s Red Card was overturned … this is a perfect example of when VAR should be used (correctly). It’s great he’ll be available for the next match, but it contributed to losing 2 points on the day. https://www.espn.com/soccer/tottenh...ed-card-for-tackle-on-andres-gomes-overturned
It just shows the vast incompetence of many of the PL referees and the body that runs them, the PGMOL. VAR is taking the brunt of the rage, but it is really the poor decision-making and egregious interpretation of the rules and images by a group of sub-par referees that is at the root of the problem. There was so much ineptitude from the officials on Sunday that it cannot pass unremarked. 1. The match referee Martin Atkinson had initially produced a yellow for the challenge and then changed it to red, WITHOUT consulting the VAR, Anthony Taylor (another incompetent twat). 2. While there was a delay of several minutes to stretcher off the unfortunate Gomes (who should have been booked a few minutes earlier for elbowing Son in the face - again missed by Twatkinson)), VAR did not review the incident, even though a few minutes earlier, Taylor spent nearly 3 minutes to determine Deli's clear hand ball was not a penalty. 3. After the match, the PL released a statement claiming the red card decision was correct: The Premier League explained that Son’s red card was “for endangering the safety of a player which happened as a consequence of his initial challenge”. Again, the PL does not know or understand the laws of the game - there is no rule allowing for the issuance of a red card because of the consequences of a challenge. A legal challenge could also injure a player - is that a red as well? It is either a reckless challenge (yellow) or serious foul play endangering an opponent (red). 4. If Son can get a 3 match ban, why can't Twatkinson and Taylor be suspended for 3 matches? Every time a red is overturned, the referee should be either suspended or docked pay, there is no accountability for their ineptitude.
