We got him! The American Dream continues…🇺🇸Sergiño Dest -> @USMNT 🗽 pic.twitter.com/fg77aiZPLA— AFC Ajax (@AFCAjax) October 28, 2019
Dest only chose the USA because he knew he'd always have an easy path to playing time on our dumpster fire national team instead of having to fight for a spot with the Dutch. Another sure sign of failure in our youth ranks that we're producing kids who aren't willing to step up to bigger challenges. Thanks USSF! (yes, this is sarcasm for the sarcasm challenged)
yeah....not a good sign he chose USA...lack of intestinal fortitude...bound to be a bust...dest the bust
that is the take we needed to keep our spirits at the requisite low levels. thank you for your service
People don’t know how good of news this is! Granted, we are going to have to slide him on the left, at least until we find a suitable left back or until we can move Yedlin or Cannon over. But, this adds a whole new dimension to our team that all of a sudden we don’t have a gigantic hole in our team. Specifically, I see him playing as inverted left back. In other words, more like what Berhalter wanted to do with Adams, but on the opposite side. Hopefully, we can get Adams and Weah back healthy and in form and we should be able to do some damage.
Its very good news. A reward for the USSF/USMNT staff for their scouting and diligence. We aggressively recruited him to our youth teams, and called him up really early to the USMNT. That foundation made the difference. Amongst all of the other garbage and bad news/results within the US program, this is a respite. Some good news for once. Something for us to be excited about.
(y'all should highlight my above post) I mean, seriously, the fact that a kid with a bright future chose to stick around after what was an atrocious camp on the field shows that perhaps not everything is as toxic in the MNT camp as everyone thinks and that our younger guys seem to be buying in and that we can cool the dual national panic a bit.
Agreed. I posted this in the other thread but want to reiterate... I really hope we look back on this decision as a moment where the team started to move in the right direction. As Bravo stated... I wish that we could just plop him in at his natural position but LB has been such a giant hole for years now... and as such, I understand why he would start there... hopefully a guy like Gloster will develop quickly and we can switch him back to his natural side. As an aside people... don't feed the trolls.
Praise be to Egg! Give him another 4 years! Cannot wait to see Adams and Dest fight for the one RB slot for the next couple years. Now we have TRUE competition in our ranks. Great stuff. This kid is the real deal. Very exciting to watch him develop for the next decade. Hope his arrow keeps pointing up!
?... Pretty sure the Adams at RB experiment is over.... at least I hope it is. I assume we will see him at CDM w/ Yedlin at RB and Dest at LB in upcoming competition if they are all healthy.
RB is maybe our deepest position all of a sudden WITHOUT including Adams as a possibility there, due to Dest choosing for us, Cannon emerging, and Yedlin being one of our most experienced non-old players. So obviously, we should play Adams there and have Yedlin and Dest watch from the bench or left back.
Curious to see where he ends up. With Yedlin and Cannon I think we're weaker at LB and could use Dest there, but if Gregg is married to his system then Dest fits better as a right back
Umm. Disagree. I think its odd that people seem to forget he is so young, and has a long time ahead of him dressing for the Nats. Our current fed sucks ass. Call me a naive, and overly optimistic fool, but I don't think it will be the case 5+ years out. Dest is thinking long term.
We're weaker at left back until Chris Gloster of PSV breaks thru................. We need PSV on one side and Ajax on the other.
It was a joke/sarcasm. (highlight my post). I don't actually think it's USSF's job to groom players for other national teams.
I agree with what you said except for "Our current fed sucks ass." Sure the current usmnt sucks. And the fed has to take some of the blame, as should the player pool, the coaching, player development, etc. A bad team in recent history, no doubt. But with regards to the OTHER teams the fed supports, the fed is doing a good job. In fact, I heard a rumor that they have a ladies team that set some sort of record.
The recruitment of duel nationals has to be evaluated on a case by case basis. Having said that, this is a case that was extremely well handled. The next player, whoever that may be, will be completely different case, but it is nice to have an example of what US Soccer is capable of when they put their minds to it.
Well the team has been winning 50% of their major tournaments for the last two decades, but I'd hesitate to say things have gone smoothly with them on the administrative side.
