Kill two birds with one stone. Olsen’s teams often lack tactical competence so that’s a wash. He doesn’t try super complicated shit and his teams play hard. So a step up.

Beerholder needs to be a league coach where he can implement his tactics over daily practices and frequent matches. He isn’t national team material.

I don't think you could pull this off in secret - people would notice (and ask questions).

Dammit I saw the title and thought that maybe, just maybe, sanity broke out at Soccer House.

Ben Olsen has found a way to make bad teams decent. I am a DCU fan and I went from hating him to respecting him a lot because the front office (before Rooney and the new stadium) gave him no players.

I'd make the switch in a heartbeat.

Good Lord, I wouldn't. Olsen is as dire a coach as I have ever seen, and I love him for his time as a player with DC United.

No, sadly, but maybe this is the thread we need to relieve pressure, as frustrated but still hopeful (or at least curious) posters drop in, grasping at straws.

I will try to check in from time to time, to counsel others and/or provide comic relief.

    Half right.

Olsen, actually, is what the team needs now. But in 6 months, his limitations will become a problem.

He would get us to the world cup. Strong defense, counter attacking style. Our team is unbelievably suited for it.

Probably an upgrade, but whoa boy we could do way, way better than Ben Olsen.

Olsen always looks fired up so that improves the optics. Berhalter always looks like he's standing in line at some hipsterish joint and deciding what sandwich to order for lunch.

And he would appease the fan base as he would tell it like it is in interviews, and would bring some outwardly passion and fire to the table.* . Olsen doesn't take any sh!t from his players, nor does he tolerate piss poor effort. Olsen doesn't sugar coat. He's also not afraid to play guys who have an edge (The Jermaine Jones types who walk that line between dirty and gritty). That's what this team needs desperately now.

*I'm not saying or suggesting that Berhalter isn't passionate about being the HC of the National Team, or that he doesn't have passion for the team's results. IMO he very much cares about the team and getting results. IMO the leap from club managing to coaching at the international level hasn't been smooth. Right now the USMNT cannot afford to have a coach learn as he goes. If they'd hired him after Couva....he'd have more leeway.

I can't believe this is a suggestion in any way.

Wayne Rooney has become a hood ornament in Olsen's "offense." He has all the resume weaknesses of Berhalter without any of his strengths.

I'm not sure there's a worse hire out there.

There isn’t unless they fire and rehire Beerholder. Olsen’s teams lack offense but the defense is solid and organized.

I want Berhalter our but damn, can’t we do any better?

I’d take Peter Vermes in a heartbeat over Olsen. He offers the same, bust your ass mentality, but he’s actually won some things.

    So were Berhalter's MLS teams.

I have been supportive of Berhalter because I think he overacheived in MLS, but he was never a dream hire. I have no idea why we'd go to a less talented version of that well.

There's a lot of coaches out there. Ben Olsen shouldn't even be mentioned.

have a soccer house intern aggregate whoscored rankings over the previous calendar year, put the highest rated eligible/healthy player in each position of a standard 4-4-2 and hire some local hs/college cheerleader each matchday to wear a giant eagle head and a jersey with "manager" on the back to dance around on the touchline some.

i want to jokingly say we wouldnt be any worse- but that would leave bradley, trapp, lovitz, baird off the roster. its hard to argue it wouldnt produce a markedly better team than we have now.

    Hahaha hahaha.

He just needs to roll up his right pant leg and have a man-purse.

    You nailed his look. Nice

How about the Olsen twins. Then we get two for one.

I'm gonna go crazy and suggest, if we were to get a new coach, it might make sense to get one who has won a few games against top international teams, since, theoretically, we may get the opportunity to do that some day, perhaps, if we get super-lucky...
