According to TM, 01 Defender Travian Sousa goes from Sacremento U19 to HSV U19.
    https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/travian-sousa/profil/spieler/651222

even MOPO says so, had a training stint in Feb and convinced.

what I'm curious is his birthday is Sept 19, 2001. Which means he doesn't turn 18 until Sept which is after the transfer market closes. Does that mean he's not eligible until Winter 2020 or does he have an EU passport?

as a 01, next season in 2019-2020, is his last eligible U19 season as well.

also seems short for a defender at 1.63 m according to TM if that is accurate.

If is for a CB position, yes. If is for an outside back then is ok but in the short side.

Saw on Twitter that he looks to have a Portuguese passport.

It's fairly short even for a fullback, but you never know where TM got its info — who knows, it could have been his height when he was 14 or 15.

Also, TM & his USSDA page say he's a defender. The reports out of Germany refer to him as an offensive player.

Maybe he's someone who has bounced between fullback and the wing?

Not much shorter than the best ever American FB or arguably the best ever world FB.

For anyone that's watched him, is he more of a filler signing for Hamburg or a real pro prospect?

I went to school with him and that was his height when he was much younger. He is at least 1.78m to 1.83m.

Hey, Jimmy. Do they rock or suck?

    Jimmy:
They... have not started playing yet.

    Wallace Wells:
    That was a test, Jimmy.

I'm thinking that it's possible that they haven't plotted out Sousa's full adult life in the two days since they announced his signing. ;)

Sure, but not every signing is created equal. Sargent is different from McKinze Gaines, for example.

Travian Sousa participated in first team training today.

Hamburg had their first choice right back Jan Gyamerah injured this week and will miss for the rest of the year.

Dieter Hecking, HSV coach, on Sousa training with the first team: “We wanted to do some tactical aspects and looked for a full back from our youth teams and have opted for Sousa. It’s was a good choice. He’ll definitely train with us tomorrow but will play with the U-19 on Sunday. It’s possible he’ll keep being part of our sessions for next week.”

It’s good experience for the boy. He will not play for the first team anytime soon I think, but training at a higher level is great and he’ll be close to the coach’s eye.

Sousa played the full 90 minutes. He impressed enough to play the full match apparently.

HSV coach Hecking on Sousa: ”He’s done very well. I didn’t see any reason to make a change (referring to substitution). It gives us a good feeling since we currently have only two fit fullbacks in Tim Liebold and Josha Vagnoman. Who knows, maybe we’ll need Sousa sometime. I’d say we will keep him training with us and continue observing how he develops.”

This all seems pretty positive if he only signed and started with the U-19s over the summer, and he's already training with the 1st team, getting into their friendlies, and getting into official games with the reserves.
