Guessing Okwonkwo won't be coming back next year. He repeated again "I cannot adapt to this league." #IMFC #MLS https://t.co/5UVzkeklYG— Tristan D'Amours (@tristandamours) October 8, 2019
I guess it is officially official today. I thought this had been announced some time ago, but here you go. https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2019...dier-field-official-announce-date-home-opener
March 21 seems a bit later than usual for a home opener. Seems like usually only the "even more northern" teams waited that long, like Toronto or Minnesota.
It's still pretty much winter at that time around here, but still less chance of truly blizzard-like weather by holding it that late. The Fire's season scheduling this year was atrocious. Opened in LA but then played three home games in March with weather conditions exactly what you'd expect. You could easily convince me that the league colluded to tank attendance for the last season in Bridgeview.
March 21st also gives a bit of a cushion in case there is any disruption to the scheduled start of the season due to the CBA negotiations.
Given how labor negotiations are going lately, it's wouldn't be the first work stoppage to affect events in the city in the preceding year.
