I can understand Grealish not being involved in this month's squad but I'll be very disappointed if he's not in November's.
He did play very well but he's been moved out wide for Villa, which probably isn't going to do his England chances any good. Particularly with Hudson-Odoi coming back.
He looked shocking at times today, Almost looked like a guy who was out all night. Bit better in the second half
Southgate also said that he didn’t play with a number 10 so not completely sure what Southgate wants anyway
Still not convinced by Tomori: it's only the first half against Southampton, but he already twice lost the ball in dangerous areas by dribbling instead of kicking it away. There are a lot of English defenders already who do the same when pressed.
Everyone is entitled to one bad game. I think he's been fantastic in all his games before today. It can't be easy having to defend with Kurt zouma who is terrible.
I think even maldini would play poor if he had aidy boothroid managing him. I'm on about this season under lampard at Chelsea.
I would start tomori alongside maguire. Hes composed good in the air and quite quick. Our centreback options are looking stronger
Tommy had a rather poor showing today, tbh. He's been pretty solid up till now but he had a couple of brain farts which he, (and others), managed to recover from.
He hasn't been playing long enough in the EPL to establish that is my feeling and I say that as a fan of the lad.
I agree. Tomori terrifies me if hes playing in a tournament because hes very error prone and always has been. I like him but Its not just one bad game. Its u20 world cup. Its u21 championships. Chelsea derby..to name a few. Kind of guy who could be good at 26 but not someone whos ready for our euro team. Squad maybe
wouldn't say that, he made a few mistakes and definitely has room for improvement in terms of focussing but against France for instance he looked an absolute monster, dealt very easily with Dembele. I'd have him as our 4th center back, Keane is too slow and clumsy, Dunk looked a bit similar against the US, he's alright in the PL with a lot of bodies in front of him but international football is a different animal
I can't say that I'm a big fan of Keane or Mings. Maguire, Gomez, Stones and Tomori are a decent quartet though. THB and Tuanzebe are also making strides.
Tbh I'd have him ahead of Gomez presuming your other 3 are him, Stones and Maguire. I like Gomez but centre back is a position where rhythm and playing regularly are vital. Gomez sadly just doesn't look like he's going to get regular games in that position this season and we saw with Stones against the Netherlands the dangers of having rusty players in that position.
To be clear, he's been very good for us until this last game. The idea that a defender can't be considered if they NEVER make a mistake isn't reasonable because, bluntly, ALL defenders make mistakes at some point.
