Yep, he was standing up and the next minute you see him doing convulsions on the floor needing oxygen. Played it to a tee. The scenes after are a direct result of the total inconsistencies Roma get with VAR. Yet again the ref doesnt go himself and make the call. There was very little in it. The defender knew it. Now he's laughing and joking with his teammates.
What rule? As far as I know, the ref doesn't necessarily have to watch it himself. I also just rewatched the situation and you can't tell whether he gave a foul or a goal in the first place.
Fonseca Fun Facts #1: 7th round in and we have 2 points advantage over a Milan side with a 80 years old anti-record start of their season. Fonseca Fun Facts #2: We've scored 3 goals in the last 4 games, while conceding 4 goals. Fonseca Fun Facts #3: Just 1 clean sheet from 7 Serie A matches so far. Fonseca Fun Facts #4: We're 5 points behind Atalanta and playing like it.
Clarification: The referee disallowed the Kalinic goal immediately and therefore did not NEED VAR. #ASRoma just didn't notice until after Pisacane was stretchered off in a neck-brace. Liveblog https://t.co/9NLUKBDP23 #RomaCagliari #SerieA— Football Italia (@footballitalia) October 6, 2019
It's a result of intransparency and miscommunication of decisions which I've been criticising since VAR has first been used. But I really don't know why we're having the discussion in this case specifically because no one with even the slightest understanding of the laws of the game could give a goal on that occasion.
Abysmal result. With what I've seen on the pitch so far and the mounting injury crisis, top 6 could be a struggle for us this season. Nevermind top 4.
There is nothing clear about what happened after the goal was scored. Show me where the ref disallowed it. 5 minutes later no one knew what was happening.......inexcusable if you aren't waiting for a VAR
So you’re blaming all of this on Fonseca ? The fact that we barely have a full squad and that were forced to play players out of position ? If anyone else was on the touch line we would be in a worse situation
By the way the ref isn't obliged to go and look at VAR in order to be influenced or rely on it for his decision. That's why there's a VAR assistant. The ref goes to look at VAR when he wants to see the situation for himself or to 'sell' the assistant's decision with which he agrees with to the players/viewers. Go at 1:50 for how referees use VAR in practice.
Fonseca fun facts #5: it's only 4p behind Atalanta and 0-3p behind 4th post depending on what Napoli do today despite having a massiv injury crisis. But at least you waited until the final whistle this time.
Yes as I said, sometimes the ref checks, sometimes he doesn't. This is the issues and the players on the pitch can only see that. It would be infuriating every week to deal with this. It's a pretty simple fix, every big call goes to the ref watching the scene and he is made accountable. Not some shadow figure on a microphone. Regards the decision, it's pretty soft really considering the slight touch and will be ruled out most of time. And then the guys is a lying sack of shit on the ground. You see him kicking his legs up like he's having a fit? Opportunistic
Like yourself, I didnt celebrate. I could see it was a push and foul and knew it would be chalked off one way or another. It's the lack of transparency that gets everyone riled up though. I would of thought he'd at least have to look at it to be sure. One can only assume that he originally gave the goal as it surely would have been obvious to everyone on the pitch if he didnt.
Do you agree that Kalinic pushed Cagliari defender or not? All in all, watching replay, he made a foul. So, no second goal. And now it's nevermind how VAR worked in that situation, it made right decision.
We know that. That is the issue and leads to the same problems before var. Very easy to fix some big decisions in key moments.
Nevermind how Var worked lol...............sorry but I am very much concerned about how Var works or in our case never works for us.
Well, imagine situation otherwise. Would you like to concede 2nd goal when it's clear foul that was seen by VAR?
Well, the shadow figure is a ref too whose name is known to everyone before the game. Letting the ref see every controversial discussion is one option, but I think it would take too much time. There was 2 or 3 times in this match, the ref didn't continue immediately because he waited for the VAR ref to tell him that there was no handball after blocked shots inside the penalty area. I'd just make the communication between them audible. Or just somehow display on the screen if they just reviewed something and what situation they are even reviewing. Either way, I agree with you that something should be changed regarding this. No matter what way.

He turns his head and watches Kalinic about to tap the ball in, then puts his hands over his face and falls to the ground and needs to be stretchered off? LOL.
We've had a more or less full squad for the first 6 matches. Which is irrelevant considering how the coach is responsible for training as well. Some injury crisis happen because of bad luck, but more often than not they have to do with the way the players are being prepared during pre-season and in-season as well. This Cagliari result doesn't come in a vacuum. Fonseca's decisions influence every fiber of this club and it's performance and he is so far mediocre. We're entering every match with 1.5+ goals disadvantage because of his team's inability to defend. I don't care about a sexy attacking play, because it's missing from 1/2 of our matches anyway and those 1.5 goals we're conceding aren't taking a day off as well in those same matches. I'm not interested in excuses or reasons, that's a business, Fonseca is hired so that the people who expect to make money out of this business don't have to hear about injury crisis and how we are doing okay, it's just the results that are missing.
It's another joke that no one is focused enough on. Unless he is blind, ref should have placed a red card on his chest as he was stretchered away
