Apologies if posted already, but good Athletic profile of Shinyashiki: https://theathletic.com/1247377/201...im-a-front-runner-for-mls-rookie-of-the-year/
Playoff scenarios: Colorado, KC, and Portland win - Colorado is the 7th seed, beating Dallas on the first tiebreaker (total wins) OR Colorado wins by 2, KC wins, Portland and SJ draw - Colorado is the 7th seed, beating Dallas on the first tiebreaker (total wins) and SJ on the third tiebreaker (goals scored)
If the Rapids make the playoffs this year, it will make the craziest year ever a total miracle. Has any team in any league ever made the playoffs using three coaches? And not just a person stepping into the role for a week, but literally three FT coaches.
Casey was more of a caretaker while the difficult search for a manager better than Hudson went on ...
Hammering this home further: In the month of September, with their seasons on the line, Dallas, Portland and San Jose went a combined 1-9-5.3 teams. 15 combined matches. 8 total points. Pathetic. Colorado, on the other hand, went 4-1-0. Unreal that they're still alive. https://t.co/eQli5q5O7f— Sam Stejskal (@samstejskal) September 30, 2019
I would think LAFC would be resting guys for the playoff push for our game or do teams not do this anymore? Can Shinyashiki get a hat trick to give us 3x 10+ goal scorers?
Remember the #1 seed gets a bye so they have some rest built into the schedule. Plus Vela is pushing for the golden boot and single-season scoring record.
Probably a 2 or 3 year deal with 1 or two team option years after it. That's the standard MLS rookie contract. I've been very unimpressed with Transfermarkt's contract info when it comes to MLS players. You're usually better off doing a Google search on the player along with "new contract" but in Shinyashikli's case I don't think anyone reported the details.
Funny, Given how the Rapids climbed back into playoff race you would think there would be a ton of articles out there. This is only one I found https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2019...ing-themselves-out-unlikely-mls-playoff-berth
Where are the best sources for Rapids coverage? I know the Athletic really cut their MLS coverage and I try to avoid SBNation. Any suggestions?
I so want the Rapids to overcome this, even if we have to pay out full contract to AH. The Rapids, who face a Supporters’ Shield-winning LAFC team with Carlos Vela one goal from setting a new MLS regular season record, have a less than one percent chance of making the playoffs, according to FiveThirtyEight.
I was more comparing it to situations where a coach gets fired, then they have an assistant coach for a week before replacing him. Had The Rapids continued to win under Connor instead of slumping, they wouldn’t have replaced him. Truly remarkable year. Need one more truly remarkable weekend.
My point was more that Hudson set the bar at or just below three chimps with color-coded flash cards i.e. "difficult search" etc.
Do you mean Casey would have stayed the season with the Rapids had he kept winning? Or do you mean he would have been made the permanent head coach? My understanding is that Pádraig had chosen Fraser well before he actually arrived in Commerce City.
This. Everything I've heard is that Casey was never under serious consideration for the job. I think the timing of bringing Fraser in had more to do with KSE budgets than anything else.
I don't think the Rapids will make the playoffs but if they do, they would be a problematic opponent for any team they face. This is a relaxed team, playing some of the best soccer in the league and with absolutely so pressure on them. Nightmare fuel for opposing coaches.
Agree. Not the easy opponent the full season record would indicate. I was looking at some of the commentary from Dallas. They clearly were just looking at the overall reputation of the rapids rather than the recent form. And by recent, I mean 2/3rd of the season. We just aren't the pushover we usually might be.
Bit late to reply and Jason may have insider knowledge, but I can’t imagine they would have replaced Casey if he kept winning. My gosh, the Rapids fans would have revolted after finally winning. (Not like we’ve seen a lot of that.) My point was we actually had three coaches this year. Sometimes a coach gets fired, then an assistant fills in for a week before the replacement is hired. Whether Casey was expected to be short term or not, he was the coach. He definitely had an impact this season. I remember my first point was, “Well, now we know a potted plant can coach the team.”

Didn't see this one posted yet:. https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2019/10/01/could-trade-lalas-abubakar-break-mls-record-defender I like Lala's, but is he really worth that much? Or did he benefit from coming to the rapids at the right time and be merely solid. That kind of money should be for a more-than-solid player. Rod
This is what I was pointing out about not already having a transfer fee in the loan deal months ago and our improved defensive play with him here. I think getting Lalas here could cost us getting a DP and I am up in the air over that. I have enjoyed Lalas play but am sure there are cheaper options but with RFO its seems to be hit or fall off a cliff bad in signing players. From that Article I think $500K TAM/ GAM is fair and anything over they should walk and go sign 2-3 CB's (Wilson gone for sure & Sjoberg released).
