Seleção General Discussion, 2018 and beyond

I only learned about this dish a few years ago. That's the price one pays for immigrating from Brazil while very young. For a long time my memories of Brazilian cuisine were restricted to bacalhau, churrasco, feijoada, arroz e feijão, pizza (com catupiry and such, snacks such as coxinha, empadinha, pastel, etc.

Spending time there when older exposed me to many more dishes.

Moqueca rocks. I find it hits the spot in colder days.

 

Saw a few parts of the match. Richarlison tried hard.

Not too great to draw Colombia 2-2 and to lose to Peru 0-1, but these are just friendlies and Tite at least tested some players (although he could have done more).

That said, with UEFA 2020 qualifying occupying these FIFA dates, we're not going to get anybody who can test us beyond a CONMEBOL side. Even the Asian and African confederations have their priorities as their respective WCQ matches are already underway.

I wouldn't be surprised if Brazil's remaining 2019 fixtures (4, if I'm not mistaken) are all relatively lukewarm presentations. With the 2019 Copa América won, the pressure is off of Tite somewhat. But he'll have plenty of pressure come March 2020 when CONMEBOL's WCQ starts. If Brazil doesn't return to winning in October and November, the political capital he won 2 months ago may begin to disappear.

I do wonder, on a side note, what the impact of foreign managers like Jorge Jesus will be on how the Brazilian sports commentariat views Tite's work. I do hope Tite continues his lifelong habit of studying soccer and learning from other managers. Brazil can't afford to be "engessado" when WCQ starts especially as other teams in CONMEBOL will be quite competitive.
