If anyone still doubts Wijnaldum... He is, IMO, easily the best transitional midfielder in the world. Incredible all around midfielder as well; world class and indespensible. How he makes those lung busting runs in the 90th+ minute consistently amazes me. His press resistance, distribution...everything just wow. His dummy shot and pass to Malen after making that sumptuous run...his pass to release Memphis and the follow up run to finish it off? Gosh. Absolutely a class above everyone else today.
If this team had a proper #9 they would be one of the top three teams in the world (and they are pretty close to that even without one).
If I understand things correctly, when 2 teams finish on equal points at the end of qualifying, head-to-head matches will be the tie-breaker. Since we are 1-1 against Germany, I believe goal difference will count, which means we finish ahead of Germany 6-5 goals. That means we can win this group if we win all (or most) of our remaining matches
Wow what a wild game. A totally different team in the secomd half which seems to happen quite a bit. Memphis was once again fantastic. Never understand some of the hate he gets, he is usually the best player for Oranje. Once Wijnaldum started moving forward a bit more he became so much more impactful. What a fantastic assist and goal. Malen was a bit wild at times but I love the guy. He knows where to be and finishes his chances. I have to eat crow on Babel in this one. He was incredible in the second half. The left and right back need a lot of work though. If we didnt have Van Dijk and De Ligt to bail them out it could be even uglier. Just need Stengs, Boadu, Redan, Gakpo, Bergwijn to keep progressing and the forward options will be strong. Could use an attacking midfielder and a couple backs and this team is one of the best in the world
Here is the MOD over on the Referee Forum on the de Light "handball" call (he doesn't think it was one): https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/2019-2020-uefa-referee-discussion-rs.2104167/page-11#post-38135650
If you're like me and missed the match, here is the video: 1st Half https://ok.ru/video/1727074208358 https://vidia.tv/ksgr394scua0.html 2nd Half https://ok.ru/video/1727106714214 https://vidia.tv/bp0tkecq2t39.html
He's a beast going forward. He should always play in the same position he played in today's second half.
I don't know if you noticed but your Yellow Card was rescinded today for good behavior. Don't screw things up again!!! I'm not the rescue boy you think I am.
I have to say I am so happy for Malen. The kid seems to be always dreaming of playing for Oranje since his early childhood. This must have been a great night for him with him scoring the winner goal against Germany away in such an important game.
Football is a simple game - 22 men chase a ball for 90 minutes and at the end, the Dutch always win. pic.twitter.com/E9WBjLhh7u— Marten de Roon (@Dirono) September 6, 2019 LMAO @de Roon.
Das Bild is already freaking out. They're now worried they may not qualify: https://www.bild.de/sport/fussball/...4-jetzt-haben-wir-em-alarm-64475898.bild.html If they lose away at NI they could be in trouble
Honestly it should have been 2-2 at home, 1-4 tonight. The Germans were pretty lucky so far actually.
Great night of football! Dutch were superb. 1st half although with superior possession it was just not fast enough in buildup or direct. 2nd half Oranje were much more energetic and exposed Germany. Sule and Tah are both trash. Low constantly digging in his nose picking and eating what a mess he is LOL! As for Holland Wijnaldum so tactically aware and energetic. He is a top player for me and Klopp knows how important he is as does Koeman. What a great assist and fantastic run to score the capper. There was one other very high quality highlight were in the 2nd half he wins and maintains possession under pressure and plays a nice ball back to Jasper after some twists and turns. Magic. Babel was really good tonight I must admit. So must everyone else on this forum who pounds him. Be fair guys he was excellent. Worked his balls off. Memphis busy and in the mood again tonight wearing the Orange kit. De Ligt and VIrgil rock solid. Different level Frenkie just a class player. I Love him! My only negatives were Blind tonight. He is too slow and not athletic enough for this opponent. Yes he is great on the ball and terrific passer but you’re playing with fire when he is out there. Time for Nathan Ake whose game improves each week playing in the EPL. Dumfries average along with Promes who appeared to be playing right back when Dumfries went off. I’m Let it be said I don’t understand why he’s not played for Ajax yet but played 90 for Oranje in this huge match. Just strange for me. De Roon average had some decent interventions but sloppy passes on a couple of occasions. Cillessen weak on 1st goal in my opinion. Memorable debut for Malen with a great goal setup by the brilliant Gini. I’m feeling good after this match I think I’ll watch it again. Oh and I almost forgot the Portuguese ref was shite. Handball? Really? No stupid Var UEFA? Ok enough with that mess. Fantastic night for Oranje! 100(% Oranje
Yeah. I have to say Gini is really brilliant when he’s playing behind Depay. He carries the whole Oranje front line to another level. Koeman I guess is the first Oranje coach to figure this out, and we’re witnessing the results of this. However, Gini also becomes a ghost when shifted back in the midfield or when he plays as number 6 or even 8 with multiple defensive tasks. He just has to play always where he played tonight in the 2nd half.
Gini Wijnaldum is making a habit of coming up with spectacular shows in the biggest occasions... for both club and country. Liverpool stunning comeback vs. Barca came to mind. Basically Gini is the opposite of... ehm, Seedorf? Delighted by the result! Never have thought. Didn’t watch the game as I was traveling, can’t wait to watch the replay!!!
I think it is safe to say that this was Babel's greatest match in an Oranje shirt. I think it is also safe to say that it will never be repeated.
