you know, im down with #1.

i think supporting your local club no matter what division they're in or how much they suck is vital to soccer fandom.

ask a Scot about their local team not named Celtic and they'll go on and on about how rubbish they are but they still support because its their grandpa's team.

#1 is the only thing that keeps me around. what else am i going to do on a Saturday*.

*for those who dont know me, i dont watch baseball, basketball, american football, hockey, nascar, etc.

I’d be fine with #1 as well but when you treat the team and fan “assets” the way the Dynamo has I’m not sure I totally agree. There is always a business component to fandom but the Dynamo seem to treat it solely as a business (ironically they are leveraging the community loyalty sentiment to enhance their business).

The Dynamo have underinvested and underserved the fanbase - why should we support them blindly on a “just ‘cause” basis merely due to the fact that they own the rights to this market?

Should you continue to invest money in a club whose owners are not striving for excellence? Does support necessarily equate to purchasing season tickets?

I am trying to get an answer out of the FO regarding season tickets for next year - now before anyone tells me to simply move, I like where I am now which is why I have been there since 2012.

They are telling me in their promotions that my particular season tickets in my loyalty level represent an average 35% savings over the cost of a single ticket.

My ticket price for 2020 is $123.52 per game
My current ticket price for 2019 is $97.75 per game.

A first tier level season ticket for 2020 is $136.47 per game -and they are reportedly getting an average 18% savings.

In order for me to be getting an average 35% savings on my 2020 tickets it means that a single game ticket in my section would have to be about $188.

A single game ticket in my section for 2019 is between $104 and $109 depending on the particular match (LAG is more than Minniewhatsis)

The math doesn't make any sense - math majors please feel free to jump in.

Not a math major but I am a feelings major. When I analogize the situation and think about L.A. bringing in a second team, I consider this...

What if an ownership group came in and said "we bought the old church downtown, are tearing it down and using pieces of the church to build the new stadium. God is with us. We promise to be top five in investing and bring in proven talent from Liga MX, plus up and coming talent from S. America. Finally, the academy and USL Champions team will be based in Houston so that future talent will be brought up from within, hopefully to offset our initial investment in high quality players. We are CD Houston"

I'm probably jumping ship from Dynamo to CD Houston on day 1. I'm just not connected to this team anymore and the loyalty perks wouldn't keep me around.

p.s. don't hate because of the church tilt I put in there.

They’ve done a pretty nice job at this point of preventing the hostage takers from seeing the various pricing on the seats depending on loyalty. It’s like there is no concrete “base price” published, it’s all trusting them on the discount

The math adds up when you add in the “feel good” value. No, not your “feel good”, the owners. If you don’t renew, how can you expect Berner to put a cent back?

I didn't know they sold seats on the bench. For $188/game Deric should be bringing you beer.

Wanted to add - I think the whole business about supporting the team because you want to support soccer probably went away when the Dynamo moved out of Robertson. At first in 2006 it’s a way to support soccer on faith and help get things going but BBVA it was all business

"We don't publicize our pricing, so they don't know the difference." (minute 21 on 2016 sales video by current Dynamo CRO).

Well lets see if we can change that at least for the Tier One level folks

In looking at the charts, which are theoretically a good comparison for 1st time season ticket purchasers for each season, it looks like the initial price increase is about 10-15% for most seats. There is a clear delineation in that lower level seats seem to have larger increases but the upper corners look to be down in price.

You've now got 3 tiers of pricing (at least publicly) - Tier 1 1st team, Tier 2 Captain, Tier 3 Legend. The presumption would be that Tier 2 & Tier 3 prices would be less than the Tier 1 prices. But all of the Tier prices are sold as a discount to the normal per game price so just looking at it the Dynamo appear to be raising single game prices fairly substantially.

BIG DISCLAIMER - go look at the Dynamo season ticket page, its quotes the savings for each tier as "% average single game savings". If you look at the pricing chart, if they use all of the corner seat pricing and the north end line pricing in the lower level (which includes the discounted supporters seats) as part of that "average single game savings" then it really distorts the typical savings since most of the savings are in two components of the seating map, which currently have very few season tickets in it.

They may have just taken the price change of every seat and calculated some type of average so the figure they give is mathematically accurate but practically inaccurate because most of the seats with reduced prices had minimal season ticket sales in them.

But I'm sure the Dynamo would never put out any misleading information that is given without proper context . . . . . .

To add on, I'm also not sure how much the face single game seat price really matters because I figure once they rope all they can into the membership club, they will discount the remaining seats heavily on 713-style promotions and then justify it in the face of complaints by season ticket holders by saying "well, they don't get movie night, autograph night, scarfs, meet the team, etc."

I had to laugh at one of the responses to this tweet about a STH not getting any notification of the event and then the lady who says "check your spam folder" - I mean if this is that big of a "benefit" wouldn't you have the reps call folks about it?

Well I guess one rationale for having the Membership Season and renewal date run from August 1st to July 31st is that since the Dynamo season is usually effectively over by Labor Day, you really need to have the renewal deadline earlier to capture folks

The Dynamo FO and ownership is so upset at last nights result and the recent run of play that they are going to file a for a preliminary injunction in Harris County District Court to force folks to renew their seats for 2020!!!

The terms and conditions for using the stadium's WiFi includes a clause that automatically re-ups your season tickets.

I may have to join reddit (not sure what name I should use) just to respond to the My Lucky Fedora guy who claims the business side is “very clearly going in the right direction” after the Walker hire. Really? Outside of the jersey sponsorship that was done before he joined I don’t see it. I guess if you count fake attendance figures in the equation

It's going in the right direction in that by dividing the business and sporting operations they have effectively provided cover and obfuscated criticism towards the organization. Mission accomplished there.

I think Walker has been a disappointment from the fan/customer side. He’s a seasoned sports exec so I figured he’d see the mess that Canetti made and the lack of investment from Brener and come up with a plan to improve and fix things with the soft/non-cash ones first but apparently his marching orders were to find a short term “by hook or by crook” method to sell tickets that required zero investment
