This morning the papers were claiming that Petrachi is asking Fonseca to give Mert a chance and that he can depend on him. Fonseca asked for few days to see him in training. If they roll with him then Petrachi won’t sign another CB. I’ve said a few days ago that if we can’t get one of the good names (Toby, Nkoulou) then its better to invest in a young CB to develop. Petrachi may have already done that with Mert. Some of the trash we’ve been linked with recently are no better than Fazio and Juan, there is no point in investing millions in them.
Personally, I feel like there was never money for Icardi and that it’s a blessing we “missed out” on him. I like the idea of rolling with dzeko and the money should’ve always been spent on a quality CB. If monchi was still here we would’ve gone all in for Icardi and it would’ve ********ed us when he would leave in a year
I will wage guerrilla warfare against Java and all Dzeko lovers if we spend that money on Mustafi. He miiiiiiiiight be ok back in Serie A, without Xhaka - who has zero defensives bones - in front of him, but I’d rather not.
We’re so far into the red, I don’t think there is any money to spend. It’s a question of how much future money we want to spend this window, and this entirely depends on the opportunities available. Fazio’s contract will run out next summer and Juan will be in his final year. They could just roll with them and give a lot of playing time to Mancini and Mert. Next summer we will have more flexibility to add a CB of whatever level we need. But you never know what can happen in the final days of the mercato, if Petrachi finds an amazing deal he will take it.

Certainly Petrachi isn't expecting Mert to be a starter?!?!?! That would be Mongo stupid. There is no chance he's ready for any kind of major role jumping from the Turkish 2nd division to Serie A, I don't care how talented he is. He'll get eaten alive by the fans. I'm good with the signing but he's someone that we shouldn't be depending of for at least 1 full season.
Not saying he's Kante, but Kante came from he second best division in France and dominated his first season. I'm not saying that will happen with Mert, but to completely write him off his first season might also be a stretch. He's 22. petrachi must think that he can play right away, maybe not be a starter, but he's supposed to get games. This is not a Bianda signing, where you're hoping a teenager will develop into something great.
Mustafi might be my least favorite CB in the game. I will be sad as hell if we sign his ass. Just listen to Hustle and sign Rugani, ffs.

He missed maybe 5 games due to injuries last year and played 28 games in all. I watch a fair of Bundesliga and he's still pretty darn good. Bayern have just decided to go younger and purchased Hernandez and Pavard and they bought Sule last season. I've seen him enough to say confidently he still has a lot to offer.
Maybe I’m being naive, but I’d rather see Antonucci mix with Perotti for minutes rather than sign Sanchez.
