    Madrid, Spain
One of the most important consultancy sport companies in the world has presented the results of a survey where Real Madrid is the club with the biggest fan base in the world.

    http://www.sportundmarkt.de/PHP/asiatempE3.php?leitid=4.2.61

The Global Football Monitor shows that Real generates the highest levels of interest around the world with a potential global fan base of around 490 million, compared to Manchester United’s 350 million.

I had listened this news few months ago in several Spain Radio programs. But i couldn't find the link until i read this article about Real Madrid in UEFA.com

    http://www.uefa.com/competitions/UCL/news/Kind=8192/newsId=267224.html

The sigh of relief doubtless also was equally driven by the 490 million Madrid sympathisers around the world, as was recently calculated by a SportUndMarkt survey.

A important thing about this survey is that was made at the beggining of this season after the RM worse season in the last years. That means that Real Madrid fan base is quite solid. A soundness probably earned by the success of the team in the course of history.

I used to buy Real Madrid merchandise. Now, I only buy Real madrid with some regconitzation. Let's say I will only buy a RM jersey with a number on my back and it will be any number but 23. I guessed that I am paying extra money because of Beckham.

    Hey MadridForever,

I noticed that the sports marketing firm doesn't really mention the other clubs that have the largest fan base in the world, just Real Madrid vs Man. Utd. Do you have any other sources that give a list rather than just compare the two? Thanks for the help.

I watch Madrid every weekend but that doesn't make me a fan.

I never get sick of watching Real lose.

    Why should I care?

I notice that they said that United have a bigger fan base in the US. Probably true. But I wonder if they really polled the hispanic population, who would probably care more for REAL (although Mexican clubs like Chivas, Pumas and America are biggest in the hispanic market).
By the way while soccer catches on slowly but surely in the US our general sports media remains tone dead. I bet most US sports reporters don't even know who Los Galacticos are. And that's why more and more people in the US get their sports news on the internet.
