I guess I'd have to see a replay of the penalty to judge. From the description that I've heard, I can't tell if it was a dive with phantom contact or if he put himself in a situation where he would be fouled, and was. The latter is definately not cheating in my opinion, but the former most likely is.

Either way, I'm glad we didn't walk away from this match with nothing. As they say, these calls tend to even out over the course of a season. Except in Italy of course. ;)

Ranieri is a pretty classy guy, i respect his view of "the penalty", its part of the game like it or not get used to it.

This is what I've been trying to get across. I'm calling what Dinho did as smart for exactly what you mentioned. He got himself in a position where he would be fouled. He was running at a blistering speed and he was given a nudge by Angulo. There was contact, nothing phantom about it. This is so far removed from cheating that it's almost ridiculous. Anyways, to each his own.

What you seem to be forgetting though is that not all players are perfect little angels. In fact, most would (and do) take a dive if they had a chance, and to me that was a blatant dive by 'dinho.

I am not contesting if he dove or not..but what cause him to fell. I was just trying to say Dinho didnt cheat. See the exert from the rule book.....that seems to be what i saw...as much as it may have been a dive, there was contact!!!!!!

You're not reading the rulebook correctly. Cards may be given for simulation. Lets say Ronaldinho hit Angulo. There's contact then. He goes down. That's not a penalty. So clearly its more than just contact.
Simulation is trying to confuse the official to award a call not otherwise deserved. I thought Ronaldinho dove on that play. If what you are saying is true, any player may collapse upon being touched in the box, and it "might" be a penalty. Hey, its up to the referee! But that's not how it works.

P.S. The presence of contact does not preclude diving. Robert Pires has been proving this for several years now.

At any rate, sorry for dragging the discussion off course. Back to your regularly scheduled programming.

    That doesn't really make sense.
Are you contesting that the wind might have caused him to fall?

All I am saying is there was contact that took him off course to goal which merrited a penalty.....whether he dove after contact or would have lost balance is irrelavant because he was taken off the ball by body contact in a scoring position. After the contact who cares what he does...if he continues to run and gradually stumbles or flat out falls.....my point was he didnt cheat because you cant fake contact...you two fools arent getting that point!!!

its one of those decisions, sometimes you get them, sometimes you dont. i ahte it when supporters turn against the big clubs for 'cheating' like they are all little angels. it prob wasnt a pen atal, but barca had 2 claims turned down in the first half aswel!
also valencias goal was a bout a mile offsie wasnt it?? things even themselves up!

i am not turning towards barca, but when people make silly claims about cheating, favouritism, it gets very annoying!

Add to that the fact that an Eto'o goal was disallowed for an imaginary offsides!

And the refs are more than happy to help. Make-up calls are part of the game at every level. It keeps the refs out of hot water. I'm surely not saying it's right, but it does even things out across the whole season for teams. As long as each team evenly receives bad calls that is.
