On a lighter note, Sports Illustrated has decided to repeat its tribute from 2015 of 24 different covers for each of the 23 World Cup Champions + Ellis... ...kind of. https://www.si.com/soccer/2019/07/1...ve-covers-sports-illustrated-womens-world-cup I would have preferred physical printed issues I could buy in stores, but I guess it's better than nothing. https://www.sicovers.com/current-covers
Unless you can find a way to have them projected onto a wall on a rotating basis 24/7/365. Like Apple Slideshow.
Welp fellas, it's time for which USWNT star got the best "welcome home" salute and please add to the post if there are any that I missed: Samantha Mewis and Alyssa Naeher were honored at the Red Sox - Los Angeles Dodgers match.(New England is where these two are from) https://sports.yahoo.com/uswnts-sam-mewis-alyssa-naeher-202708237.html Alex Morgan was honored at the MLS CA Clasico match: Los Angeles Galaxy - San Jose Earthquakes(Hometown Los Angeles) https://www.lagconfidential.com/2019/7/11/20691075/alex-morgan-to-be-honored-during-cali-clasico Carli Lloyd got a special birthday surprise from singer Jennifer Lopez at her concert in Madison Square Garden where she gave Lloyd a lap dance on stage(Carli is from New Jersey/New York area, also WTF?) https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/j-lo-gave-womens-world-151736452.html Emily Sonnett was honored at Waffle House(not sure what this is but I'm guessing a famous restaurant)(Sonnett is from the south I'm guessing) Megan Rapinoe was honored at Seattle Storm WNBA game where her girlfriend plays.(Pinoe is currently living in Seattle but originally from Northern CA) https://www.cbssports.com/soccer/ne...nored-at-wnba-game-mlb-game-and-waffle-house/
Wait WHAT!!!!!!! Well, you know those arrogant Americans with their “excessive” celebrations. Ding Ding Ding we have the winner. BTW, members of the French Media are outraged.
Sonnett's is my favorite of these: Waffle House, the breakfast of champions. World champions. @emilysonnett pic.twitter.com/o9a7hSI0ut— Waffle House (@WaffleHouse) July 12, 2019 LFG pic.twitter.com/QZckYeWT5U— Emily Sonnett (@emilysonnett) July 8, 2019 Waffle House is a roadside breakfast chain restaurant with a deep following in the Southeast U.S.; it's 64 years old this year. http://www.fox5atlanta.com/sports/world-cup/two-world-cup-players-get-homesick-for-georgia "Cobb County native Emily Sonnett comes home to see family, including her twin sister, and to visit her old club team's stomping grounds. Much of Sonnett's time is spent in Portland playing for the Thorns, but when she's home, she's hungry. "Out west, yeah, I always think about home and Waffle House," Sonnett said. "I try to go every single time I'm home. I think just being home, seeing my family and Waffle House has to be the one thing right next to my family.""
https://www.cnn.com/2019/07/14/business/secret-campaign-soccer-pay-equity/index.html Secret will provide 525,000 dollars to the USWNT to help with the gender pay gap
There's also a video that Fox Sports did for the WWC where Sonnett talked about Waffle House being her fav cheat meal.
How annoying. At some point in the past 48 hours, all of those covers were removed from their online cover store. I was about to pull the trigger on an 11x14 print of the Tobin Heath one, but SI seems to believe that strictly adhering to their obscure rules on "Special Digital Commemorative Covers" is more important than making logical business decisions. I formally retract my "I guess it's better than nothing." I consider this bait-and-switch to be insulting to the players and the fans alike.
When you lose a bet...Nice @alexmorgan13 shirt, @melreidgolf!@USWNT pic.twitter.com/tloIAPexlJ— LPGA (@LPGA) July 16, 2019 Mel Reid, English golfer...
Disappointed that all there seems to be to talk about at current in this forum is political controversies. Update on those SI Covers: I reached out to them and the response was "Unfortunately those covers have been temporarily pulled from our site due to some questions on licensing. I don't know when or if they will be available in the future."
Why there are so many Barca fans in the USWNT? Their playing style is totally different. As a Real fan I don't get it.
It has been reported that Gustavsson is the one in charge of the offense and was the one who engineered the CK's in the 2015 final and retooled the offense in 2019 (with input from Ellis). This will be a big loss. I was kind of hoping he'd take over after Ellis leaves. This is from last week out of Sweden: #USWNT assistant Tony Gustavsson is leaving. I heard same thing today. He first joined team in 2012 under Pia Sundhage, then returned in 2014 when Jill Ellis got head coaching job for which he was a finalist. https://t.co/sHTaUoKZvQ— Paul Kennedy (@pkedit) July 24, 2019
Maybe this confirms Ellis is going to be sticking around another cycle? Maybe he didn't want to wait that long for the opportunity to be HC?

https://wheatieswomensussoccer.myshopify.com Anyone spending the 23 dollars on the wheaties box? I wish it was just available for regular price at the local grocery store since I don't have 23 dollars to spare for this limited edition box.
@McSkillz After the Sports Illustrated cover fiasco, I've learned my lesson and just pulled the trigger. A Wheaties box for the USWNT is long overdue and while it should be in stores to improve availability and access, it's definitely better than nothing [I hope I don't have to retract that statement again]. I was a little taken aback by the price too, but I guess they just had to make the price 23 dollars for the 23 players, right? At least it's for a good cause. And this is after Coca-Cola got me on one of these bad boys the other day: https://www.cokestore.com/custom-bottles-1/championship-bottles/women-s-world-cup-coke-bottle
Forbes' female athlete rich list reveals seven of 10 best-paid sportswomen earning less than in 2018 The USWNT footballer Alex Morgan was one of just three non-tennis athletes to feature in the top 15, her $5.8m (£4.8m) earnings ranking her in 12th.
