Anyone remember this highlight show from the mid 90s? This is when I became a real diehard Serie A fan since I could finally watch in English. Loved this highlight show.

That is the Channel 4 intro from the UK. I don't remember the intro being the same in the U.S.

I remember the PrimeSports Serie A Highlights show back in the 90s. They would show it on Tuesday mornings at 6:30am on SportsChannel Philly in my area. That was literally the only thing that could get me up that early. It was a godsend in a time when getting Serie A highlights in America was almost impossible.

We should make this thread a sticky on this forum as a lesson to all the youngsters today complaining about having to pay to watch matches. Or complaining in general.

In NYC, we got 1 serie a match on tape delay from a local public TV station. A And they skipped halftime so it was 1st half, jump cut, 2nd half.

When I was hooked up to internet (dial up) in 1996 at home, I already knew the result by the time it aired. I was never one to wait for results. Haha

I too remember that. The then PBS affiliate WNYE used the RAI International Feed for their 9am game and put it on tape delay for later in the day...

GOLTV had the right around the early-mid 2000s and FSC used to sublicense games from them (usually with midtable sides)

If Gol TV had Serie A, it was before I knew about about it. https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/italy-serie-a-kickoff-times-tv-info-october-2011.1826231/ is a schedule topic for October 2011 listing Serie A games on FSC, FS+, FSE (Fox Sports en Espanol that is now Fox Deportes), and RAI, but not Gol TV.

On a similar topic, does anyone recall watching the old Premier League highlights show during the early years of the Prem. I remember watching it on either MSG network of SportsChannel (in NY). I just remember the crowds being unreal. Like tons of action and the stadiums looking like it was bubbling over with lunatics. I'd love to find these on yt or somewhere online now.

Regarding the intro, I went straight to the source and pulled out one of my video tapes from the 95-96 season. I watched one of the Serie A highlight shows that aired on Prime Network. They did not use the Channel 4 intro and instead Prime had one of their own. The rest of the show was Channel 4 content, though. That intro does seem familiar, though.

Fun fact. The feature game in the episode I watched was Parma hosting Milan. A 17 year-old Gianluigi Buffon made his Serie A debut in goal for Parma.

The next show on the tape was Premier League highlights from late '95. The crowd noise was turned up pretty high in the audio mix. You definitely get the impression that it was a crazy atmosphere.

The nostalgia was heavy here, watching the programs that first gave me access to European soccer. There wasn't much available in Kansas before the '94 World Cup.

Was it classical music the intro for Serie A. I think the channel 4 was used between commercials or highlights. Anyway you can upload the intro?

I wish there was a way to get all the episodes they aired in Prime in dvd.

Yes, the intro was what I'd call classical music. I dubbed the intro over onto a DVD-R, but I don't seem to have any computers that want to read the file. I wasn't able to upload it as a result.

Too bad as I had included the opening voice over link which was being done by Kenneth Wolstenholme in those days. He was the BBC TV commentator for the 1966 World Cup final.

In case you missed it, BT Sport did a look back at the Football Italia coverage from Channel 4 a little over a year ago. I wasn't able to embed the video so I'll just provide the link below. There's a few interview clips with Peter Brackley, and it's hosted by James Richardson.

If all you need from TV is audio, you can have the computer record audio from TV.
