Is the USWNT just a physical team?

Many many ppl think we only have physical strength but that's really wrong.

The JE era USWNT has pretty good pass combination and individual technique. In the match VS France we got good counter. Also players like Dunn and Tobin Heath got very good dribbling skills. France, England and Norway/Sweden women are quite strong. Sure the USWNT is not a tiki taka team but tiki taka is not the only way to show technique.

I think the US relies on strength, speed and grit to dominate womens world soccer. It is not wrong or right, it simply is what it is. It wins games and makes them the best team in the world by a long shot.

I would not call anyone on the team extremely skilled or dynamic with the ball. Tobin Heath tries to be but in the end 90% of her dancing around leads to nothing but passing it back or sideways. The rest like Press, Morgan, Pugh rely on speed and Ertz, Lloyd, Mewis, Horan rely on grit and strength.

Not sure it matters at all but for soccer geeks to talk about. Style makes no difference when you are in a World Competition. You win and you are the best. The US is the best and will be for years to come.

Hopefully we can now put to rest the "world is catching up talk"

I think what separates out this team from many other national teams is that they are very disciplined, mentally strong and gritty (they believe that they can win in any situation), and they play well together (the whole is greater than the sum of the parts). This is not to say that they don't have futbol skills, because they certainly do.

Morgan has quite good dribbling skill as well, she's like Torres in his prime. Lavelle and Dunn are good as well. USWNT's technique isn't super great like Japan but still top level.

And while some players don't have great dribbling skill, their vision, touch and pass combination are very good.

    not at all

Seriously never understood why people say so as they’re also very good technically - sure everyone’s not like gifted technically but no one’s bad. They have a very effective technqiue, like Julie Ertz looks a lot like me technically I’d say, not that I play competitive elite soccer on the highest level like she does but I do play and have played my whole life and I do very simple moves, feints and tricks that might not look like Messi or something but it’s very effective and fast doing. Like how many times have I seen her done an easy feint to get the needed space or a brilliant pass forward etc...? Pretty much every game -

Also I don’t particularly think that anyone’s got a problem with the build-up play. Sure not every US player is amazing at doing it, but I’ve on numerous occasions seen that Dunn, Dahlkemper, Sauerbrunn and O’Hara have been able to do build-up play which I always compare to Germany’s backline at one point which was Kerschowski - Henning - Peter - Blässe which was the living proof of a backline unable to do any simple passes up to the midfield or to the forwards or carry the ball comfortably up the pitch to help with the build-up play

Yes I’d agree on that their physicality and mentality are what at this point is giving the US the advantage, but they’re not that technically inferior to for example France I’d say

Some ppl kind misunderstood by thinking only short passes+dribbling is technique.

Good vision+quick long passes are technique as well. The USWNT could also do short passes to get the ball out of the press. Morgan Brian would have been a great DMC playmaker if she didn't suffer so much injury.

I think the USWNT also have very good techniques compare to most of the team.

    Hmm...

And that doesn’t even include her moments from the WWC.

Lavelle and Heath are very good on the ball. The other forwards and mids are tidy,as is Dunn, who was moved into the back from midfield.

    here
Disagree on a few things, but this is the main one. Mewis' ability to attack on the dribble, at speed, in traffic, is very underrated. She's not far behind Rose in that regard.

Sam's going to start making some of those shots and people are going to treat it like some huge revelation.

Becky is super underrated technically. She's very good on the dribble. Against Germany last time 'round, they were pressing us early. Becky kept breaking the pressure. Then, she positively danced around a German forward, and Germany gave up the press.

yep, she is the one who can dribble and pass out of trouble. The Spain goal was not entirely her fault.
