Oh and to kind of complete my post on Mexico and US U-20 World Cup numbers, The final between Korean and Ukraine were watched by 423000 on FS1 and 139000 on Universo. Absolutely rock solid numbers for a youth tournament! Fox has temporarily turned into FSC again with U-20 WC, WWC, and Gold Cup all on during the summer. As a soccer viewer in the US during the 90s, this was impossible for me to even imagine. Truly awesome.
Agreed. I never thought I would see the amount of soccer on US TV today in my life time. There is a lot.
Thoughts....bad ESPN number, but have to imagine alot of people along with Cincy fans tuned out after that comically bad 7-1 drubbing. Solid UniMas numbers for the doubleheader that needs to become a Friday night thing. Imagine the LAFC vs Rapids game would've had bigger numbers if the game had not had the severe weather delay at the 68th minute. The game didn't end until 3 am. Top 10 markets for USA vs England: Austin 8.3/26 Kansas City 8.1/24 Atlanta 7.7/21 San Diego 7.6/24 Fort Myers 7.6/18 Boston 6.9/22 Tulsa 6.9/15 Dallas 6.6/20 San Francisco 6.6/26 Phoenix 6.6/18
For a "hip fanbase" Minnesota games don't draw viewers. Makes me wonder how many fans the team has outside of the 18,000 or so who go to games.
18000 or so mean 19.7k right? Cuz they haven't had a single game that failed to sellout at their new stadium.
and they averaged 20.5k and 23.9k in their first two seasons. If they had a 22k, 23k or 25k stadium they would sell them out. I think it won't be long until they expand their stadium.
Updating an earlier tweet. Soccer in America yesterday:- 14.3m viewers for #FIFAWWC Final on Fox at 11am ET- #1 WWC match ever in Spanish- Gold Cup Final up +62% (FS1)- #1 FOX MLS game ever- 12 year Copa America high (TEL)But it’ll never catch on here.#AllEyesOnUs— Michael Mulvihill (@mulvihill79) July 8, 2019 Forget the controversy, I think we are going to have soccer bonanzas like this with every final from now on!
https://worldsoccertalk.com/2019/07...rld-cup-final-on-us-television-and-streaming/ Most watched soccer game on Fox since... the 2015 final. As usual, terrible take by WST, calling the number "disappointing" when comparing it to a number in PRIMETIME. "According to Tunity Analytics, the Women’s World Cup Final averaged 6.9 million out-of-home viewers, making it the second most-viewed soccer game of 2019." Hmm what was bigger in 2019???
The numbers are in! 👀Sunday's #FIFAWWC final outdrew last year's Men's World Cup final in overall viewership in the United States. 👏👏 pic.twitter.com/gJZuFQnzpn— FOX Soccer (@FOXSoccer) July 8, 2019
No. Just Fox (TV + Streaming). Overall (English & Spanish combined) 2018 World Cup Final pulled in 17.2 million viewers. 2019 Woman's World Cup Final had 15.8 million combined. http://worldsoccertalk.com/2019/07/...rld-cup-final-on-us-television-and-streaming/ http://worldsoccertalk.com/2018/07/...illion-viewers-across-fox-telemundo-combined/
The average viewership for the NYCFC/Portland Timbers game on Fox Sports 1 generated 305,000. It ranked #60 in the Top 150 in Original Cable Telecast. Sunday, July 7, 2019 http://www.showbuzzdaily.com/articl...-cable-originals-network-finals-7-7-2019.html
Interesting comment in the LA Times: "Mulvihill said Nielsen is preparing to better capture out-of-home viewing metrics by next summer because “those are significant numbers as TV screens are more ubiquitous and gatherings increase for big events. A true audience can go up to more than 20%, and up to 50% with the younger demographics.”
For FS1 that is a very good number. The Gold Cup final had 2.8 million. Summer NBA basketball is getting 200 and 400.
http://worldsoccertalk.com/2019/07/...s-world-cup-gold-cup-copa-america-finals-usa/ • USA-Netherlands (Women’s World Cup Final) 15.87 million (FOX and Telemundo) • Brazil-Peru (Copa America Final) 3.1 million (Telemundo) • USA-Mexico (Gold Cup Final) 8.9 million (FS1 and Univision) • Atlanta-New York Red Bulls (MLS game) 1.6 million (FOX) I forgot, what did the MLS match after the men's final get? "The 1.6 million viewers for Atlanta-Red Bulls measured as FOX’s most-watched MLS telecast ever and the most-watched MLS telecast on English-language TV since 2004," What the heck got more in 2004??? What Spanish broadcast got more? The one that followed a Copa America game?
Sunday’s Copa America Final between Brazil and Peru averaged 3.1 million viewers, ranking as the most-watched Copa America final since 2007 – tripling the 2015 final (Chile vs. Argentina, 1 million total viewers) I assume that doesn't include 2016? Also, wasn't 2015 on BeIn? How can they compare an OTA network to a chan nobody has? " The top five markets for the Brazil vs Peru game among adults 18-49 included Miami-Fort Lauderdale (WSCV), Los Angeles (KVEA), Houston (KTMD), Dallas (KXTX), and New York (WNJU)." Miami as #1 is very interesting.
And to wrap up on the subject of the Gold Cup... http://worldsoccertalk.com/2019/07/...ewers-fs1-univision-combined/#comment-2102928 "The final averaged 5.9 million on Univision, making it the most-watched men’s soccer match of 2019 on any network. It outperformed last year’s men’s France-Croatia World Cup final (7/15/18) on Telemundo as well as out-delivering Sunday’s Copa America and Women’s World Cup finals combined on Telemundo." "Over the entire tournament, Univision’s telecast of the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup averaged 1.3 million viewers through 31 matches across Univision networks." Heh, silly little tournament that nobody cares about indeed.
You are right! That game was watched by 1.9 million. Beckham's debut against Chelsea got 1.47 million. Crazy but Adu >>>> Beckham
So how bad was it for MLS as recently as 2007? https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...o-put-mls-in-big-league-idUSTRE4AQ7D120081127 Things still aren't rosy on the TV ratings side, but I don't think anyone has doubts about MLS being around in 20 years. We've come a long way in a short time.
It's more than many MLS Cups, but it's entirely due to the lead-in, so unless you can always have MLS games after World Cup finals featuring the US team, this isn't replicable.
