  1. For sure it will.
What alot of people donot know is that Sarina Wiegman prepared the team for a different kind of opponent. In the Euros and during qualification for the WC they played against teams with the will to play soccer with an open mind. However in the WC it was anticipated it would be a completely different MO the opponents would use. Tight backlines/bunkering and playing the physical card to stop the Orange Lionesses. So in the build up to the WC preps were focused on dealing with that different MO and keeping to the script of how to decompose that.
The last test in that respect was the practice match vs Australia that truly brought to the table everything with respect to physical play, rough and exhausting. The Orange Lionesses srtuggled with it the whole match, but also brought to the table what was expected from them, deal with it and in the end take the win home.

Private, man the walls, swab the decks, plant the land mines, and prep the barrels of oil and pitch for the catapults.

We must be ready to stop this Oranje invasions at all costs. Lives will be lost, but the glory will endure.

I'm curious, why were both semis and the final all in Lyon?
You'd think they would play the final in Paris, no?
Note, I posted this question in both match threads.

  9. Fun fact about Groenen. She's a very good judoka and was considered for the 2016 games. She chose for soccer.

Of course it is ok to ask. And it is not so obvious that this game will be a cakewalk. Holland is good. Their players play technically sound soccer. Our midfield has been weak at times and Becky Sauerbrunn, for years one of the best defenders in the world (if she starts the final in '11 we are looking at trying for a 3-peat on Sunday) has shown repeated vulnerability.

The USA should win. But its play in the knockout rounds has not been dominant. And, Holland is a good team. One assumes this game will be a cakewalk at one's peril.

I think Paolo Rossi says something like this in "I Scored A Goal In The World Cup Final."

There are exceptions to that, but the Netherlands in this tournament is not such an exception. The teams they beat in the knockout rounds don't stink. Japan was a finalist last WWC. Italy is rapidly improving and Sweden knocked out Germany. The Dutch did not dominate but they won three knockout games fair and square. Both they and the Americans have earned it.

A lot of folks are looking at this match almost backwards. That is they are wondering how the US can control the Dutch's weapons. I think the correct way of looking at it is what will the Dutch try to do to control the US' weapons. By looking at it that way the "problem" becomes easier to mitigate.

I do not think they have the assets to control the US' attackers for an extended period. They will need to allow something to be in an uncontrolled state and that choice and how the US responds to it will determine the result.

What I think they will "allow" is the deeper central midfield. That is the area normally controlled by Ertz or Horan if Ertz is played at central defense as I think she should be this match.

The US' best response, I believe, will be to play mostly along the wings and only use the central mids as a one or two touch way to bypass part of the Dutch defense. Also the long diagonal pass will be very much on for most of the game.

It kind of pains me to say it but that style of play puts speed out wide at a premium and that means that Raipone may best start on the bench and come in as a sub at about 50-60 mins so Press should start.

For this match I think that Ertz and Sauerbrunn should start as central defense and Horan, Mewis and Lavelle should form our central midfield trio. The remainder of the lineup should remain the same as it has been, even though there is some slowness on the right the presence of Dunn more than makes up for it.

In spite of one good save and one correct penalty stop Naeher concerns me but she seems the best we have and the final is REALLY not the place to make changes at goalkeeper.

Now to hide from the stupid and excessively noisy fireworks that people waste lots of money on. People do not seem to realize that there are a lot of people that, even after a long time, find explosions quite disconcerting. My granddaughters will help me with that as they do not like fireworks either. We will play some noisy games that do NOT have explosions for the next few hours while the idiots have their fun.

  15. I sent a copy to Sarina Wiegman:D
She said I knew that and we're prepared:cool:

  16. Was she a considered judoka for the Games too?

  17. In another thread a Dutch poster thinks we've no chance because:

"The American girls play a different game. The pace is so much higher"

He's talking about the physical part of the game.
How good is the tactical part of the players or the coach?
Miedema for instance forsaw that the Orange Lionesses were going to meet completely different style of play compared to the Euros, where the way of play was open, so the Orange Lionesses could go on the attack.
She made changes in the Orange Lionesses way of play to battle the bunkering and physical way of play of the WC opponents.
The foreign press are moaning that this isnot the Euro Orange Lionesses. That's correct, but it's not the Euros.
We can assume coach Wiegman with her staff has analysed the USA matches and for sure knows the MO of the USA.
The question is whether the USA can play a tactical game, or are they a one trick pony.
When you're accustomed to play against opponents that are less in quality (which goes hand in hand with not very good tactically too), you can steamroll your opponents with one MO. It also means you're not used to make amendments to your game if your MO doesnot work.
And you know that Miedema, coming from a Dutch tradition in coaching is very well versed in the tactical side of the game.
Doesnot mean the expected first quarter onslaught of the USA is less of a worry, it still is.

  18. Are the USA capable of fending off the set piece threat of the Orange Lionesses. What is their history with that in the Olympics and this WC? For sure Wiegman and her staff have analysed the USA in that regard.

  19. The American football icon Hope Solo gives the Dutch team little chance on Sunday against the United States.

The extra day of rest that the American team has for the World Cup final, according to Solo, plays a major role. "America is fitter anyway than any other team. It does not look good for the Netherlands. They will have to play the game of their lives," says the 37-year-old keeper at the BBC, where she is active as an analyst during the World Cup. .
"Whether the Netherlands can handle that?"

Ronald Koeman also foresees a tough job for the team of his colleague Sarina Wiegman. The national coach of the Dutch men's team, which was on Wednesday in Lyon watching the semi-finals of the Orange Women against Sweden, said before the game that they were very impressed with what America and England had shown in the first semi-final on Tuesday.

"I thought that was great, really, really. The best game I have ever seen in women's football. Slight doubts about whether the Netherlands can handle that," said Koeman.

I actually like the team better without Rapinoe. I do not watch sport to be bombarded with politics. Stand, kneel or sit down IDGAF. Same with sexual orientation, IDGAF. I do not buy tix or turn on the TV to hear about all that shite. I just want to watch soccer.

Save all that stuff for later and bring it all up on the talk show circuit after you win.

We are the best because we have a 20 year head start on the rest of the world thanks to title nine.

I don't understand your post on several levels. It makes no logical sense to me.

If you DGAF why should she have to save it for later? Seems like you kind of do GAF.

If we had a 20 year head start, why did Germany go back to back in 03 & 07 & how are we ahead again now? Seems like the head start was gone long ago.

Do agree about Pinoe/Press, though. However, Press blew that chance to go up 3-1 by mot passing to Morgan. Pinoe makes that pass (though likely never creates the TO to begin with).

My understanding of the comment is that @y-lee-coyote has no personal opinions on the topics of the debate surrounding Rapinoe but sees the debate itself as a distraction that the team doesn't need right now. If that's accurate I definitely understand that perspective, but I can also see how blaming Pinoe's outspokenness for starting the debate might qualify as a personal opinion, making it slightly contradictory.

And this post itself might make even less sense...:ROFLMAO:

The WWC-related posts on BigSoccer left sense somewhere in the netherlands quite a while ago. The only cure will take effect come game time. We probably will get some relief during Sweden-England and hopefully a lot during Netherlands-USA.

    GIVE US GAMES!

If Pinoe is fit for Sunday's match I would definitely start her. Instead, I would replace Heath with Press. The front line of Press / Morgan / Rapinoe will be a nightmare for the Dutch to defend. Heath can come in for Lavelle in the 60th minute.
