79' 0-1 Sabatino fouls van de Donk down, yellow card on Sabatino.

80' 0-2 Spitse fk at 14m wide right, to 6m 1/5 left. van der Gragt front-cuts Guagni, jumps straight up with Guagni not jumping, drills a header through Giuliani's fingertips, into 1/4 right back high. Pinpoint precision overcomes fatigue.

The perfectly aligned shadows :D for only 1' every day in the summer

Italy's fitness levels have let them down. Great set piece goals by the Dutch.

If you don't understand the meaning of desperation and frustration, just look at Italy player's faces right now...They don't expect the sudden twist of fate...

Italy may be heading home after today, but they have nothing to hang their heads about. I just think it was one cycle too soon for anything more than a quarterfinal. Can't wait to see what they do in the Euros if they qualify.

If they meet, the Dutch will beat the US. We cannot defend height.
On Renard’s goal, we were trying to defend from behind her.

Bingo. What good is having all the technical ability in the world if you're too exhausted to use it?

    FT 0-2. Italy 6(2)-(9)21 shots(sog), 2-2 corners, 13-11 tackles, 22-17 clearances, 1-0 offsides, 13-16 fouls, 4-0 yellow cards, 40% possession, 65% (163/252) - (381/464) 82% passing.

Good run for Italy. Netherlands are just about 1 full cycle ahead of Italy.

I remember a loose touch that I think allowed Italy to get a throw in or a free kick, but she was very good today, especially on those overlapping runs in the first half.

Groenen was completely her Euro 2017 self in the second half, Spitse continues to have a Griezmann WC2018 impact with her set piece delivery, and van de Donk had her best half of the tournament in the second half. Great headers from Miedema and van der Gragt.

I was just watching the game on TV on an armchair, so interacting less here. ;) Well, the result was quite expected and scripted: I was actually surprised that Italy resisted so well in st half (and Giacinti should have buried her chance).

This. I guess this is the best we could do right now. Being among the best 8 in the world was almost unthinkable before the World Cup. :notworthy:

Our physical condition was of course not good enough (Bonansea only lasted the group strage, then she was drained): of course, in Italy we still haven't full professionalism (as Bertolini pointed out after the game).

I liked some individual performances today, though: Linari, Guagni... I'm impressed that Giuliani had at least an hand on both goals: these were basically unbeatable headers, but she was anyway on the path of the ball with her hands. :ninja:
