75' 1-1 Momiki switches from circle top box right to Sugasawa at 25m arc left -- caught 1m offside. Sugasawa chests ball and chases to 6-top left, shot blocked over by van der Gragt sliding. I think it was also van der Gragt stepping up at 27m that put her offside in the first place. 76' 1-1 Momiki chips over box mid-right, Iwabuchi chases to 6-top 7-right, cuts endline to 2m 6-right, shoots right foot wide right into side netting.
When the Germans bombed pearl harbor! But yes, the one loss was a final vs the USA. So a fancy way of saying that when they make the eliminations rounds (only 2 times) they make the final.
Gosh, that close up in the box really showed the extreme height difference between the two teams. The Dutch looked at least 6 inches (15.24 cm) taller across the board. Japan looks really dangerous now. If they do not score soon their heads may drop and it could cost them.
That was embarrassing from the Dutch defence. Japan deserved a goal. Luckily the keeper bailed them out with a magnificent save.
Japan is going full throttle...it'd be a crime for them not to make it....this has gotta be the best match of R16, plus one of the cleanest matches of the WC so far
79' 1-1 Iwabuchi dribbles 3-v-3 up right post lane, simple diagonal pass to Sugita wide-open through box top mid-right. Sugita turns back to 9m 6-right, shoots left instep rising, van Veenendaal waves right palm upward, ball continues off crossbar 1/4 left, bounces down and away to the left. OFF THE CROSSBAR! 😱 Japan are pressing for a potential winner and Hina Sugita almost delivers! #FIFAWWC pic.twitter.com/dUNTHN04B6— FOX Soccer (@FOXSoccer) June 25, 2019 80' 1-1 Japan cross from box left to 6-top right, header across 6-top blocked out to 14m center. Momiki lets ball come through her legs, turns and shoots left roundhouse to 1/3 right 1/3 high, van Veenendaal dives left and blocks rightward.
85' 1-1 Iwabuchi settles at arc top mid-left, taps to arc left and follows ball, one-touch backpass to her at arc top left, she shoots high over bar -- and goes down with cramp. 85' 1-1 Netherlands subs in (2 of 3) #5 Kika van Es for RB #4 Merel van Dongen. 87' 1-1 Netherlands subs in (3 of 3) #19 Jill Roord for #10 Danielle van de Donk.
Wasn't that the Olympics in 96? Nope, you are right, it was the 95 WC. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1995_FIFA_Women's_World_Cup#Knockout_stage
