Canpl championship format https://canpl.ca/article/canadian-premier-league-announces-2019-championship-format
I thought I read before that CPL teams are mostly made up of non lower level players, but aren't they though, I mean mostly Calgary Foothills just won the Spring and Forge is mostly made up of Sigma.
Looks like there's been a transfer of player Looks like Emery Welshman will leave Forge FC (on loan from FC Cincinnati) to Hapoel Haifa in Israel http://www.hapoelhaifa.co.il/news.php?id=297
A very complete review of CPL in general, youth soccer, expansion and CONCACAF League on this podcast. Highly recommended https://www.northernstartingeleven.com/premier-podcast-s01e14-riding-high/
Vancouver already have their eyes on Canadian Premier league players and acknowledging that mistakes were made on players evaluation. 1149723240610193409 is not a valid tweet id
Interesting stuff from @QParisis' Q&A with Quebec Soccer's president: It seems like the #CanPL is working on a League 1 Ontario equivalent in BC. The #PLSQ seems to want to work more closely with the CPL. It also seems like the price for a CPL expansion team hovers around $9M pic.twitter.com/9MQ3EOZMRb— Tristan D'Amours (@tristandamours) July 15, 2019
Saskatoon continues with its "market testing" with their match with TFC II. First we take on the @WhitecapsFC then we take on @TorontoFCII! There's some noise growing over the Canadian spots allocations 1156348955967594498 is not a valid tweet id Kurt Larson is the head of content at MediaPro, recently promoted from the same title within the league and is an invaluable source of inside information. Not that it's anything new but the league is still pushing for it's champion to take over the CAN1 spot, which would allocate the CAN2 spot to the Canadian Championship. The thinking, rightfully so, is that the 3 Canadians MLS clubs should qualify to the Champions League via the league and not via the domestic cup like it's being done in regards to Welsh clubs in EPL.
Except that the "MLS" spots are actually American spots that the USSF happens to allocate via MLS rankigns. So the Canadian MLS teams will never have access to them. As for reordering the Canadian spots, I disagree. I understand the angle (from CPL teams) that the CPL champion would get Canada 1. I also understand the "everyone else does it that way" idea. Unfortunately, both arguments ignore the reality of soccer in Canada. Our best teams aren't in our domestic league. Maybe we could have this conversation in a decade when we see where the CPL lands.
The Welsh example always comes back to justify why they can never leave MLS. Why can they earn Champions league spots and the 3 MLS teams can't via league play? Or are they truly just guests? To be fair, Larson said "eventually" so not in the very short term. Also, it's becoming absurd that TFC can win the CCL spot by winning 2 games out of 4 and the other MLS teams can do it with 3 wins out of 6. The league argument is reinforced that having to be the best out of 28 games makes more sense than 4 or 6 games. The pressure on the CSA will just keep increasing. The best solution is to get a 2nd CCL spot which would make everyone happy. As for the reality of soccer in Canada, that isn't a valid argument as someone in the Voyageurs forum pointed out: FC Andorra, which plays in Spanish leagues, cannot qualify forEuropean competition, only teams from the Andorran league can--and many would say that those teams are inferior in quality to FC Andorra. Does not matter. European competition is one thing, using the best club to help your national team players improve is considered completely separate. At some point, CPL will get the CCL spot. Question will be if a 2nd one will be given in time to the VCup. Otherwise, I could see a swap happening with the VCup ending op with the CONCACAF league instead. Who should be the "Champion of Canada"? The winner of 2 or 3 games or the one who wins a 28 games championship? Cavalry beating Vancouver and Montreal escaping York is a factor for people to start asking questions
The point is that the spots belong to country, not the league. The fact that the USSF happens to use MLS standings to allocate its spots and that MLS happens to also include Canadian teams is not the point. They are American spots to which Canadian teams aren't entitled no matter what league they play in. I (as a TFC fan) think it's silly that TFC entered so late this year. I also see it as a format that will get changed. I don't want to say never, but I don't put this in the forseeable horizon. The number of games is (largely) irrelevant. 28 games against CPL teams is less than what winning the Canadian Championship requires which is taking on all comers of whatever league. The winner of that is truly the best team and should be Canada's representative.
We're overdue for more berths but the lack of clubs made that hard to justify until CPL. The more clubs that comes in, the more CPL can continues with this type of results and improves, the more berths will come our way. We now have 2 while nations that have performed less than we did overall currently have more berths than we do. Forge beating Antigua and proving it could compete against central American teams is a indicator that we need more spots. Hence Larson saying "eventually"
Beyond his bullish position on a women’s league, other highlights of the Clanachan interview to me were him extending an olive branch to the Fury (but being clear they will go into market without them), and the commitment to getting to 8 teams next year. Sadly, just 8 though.— Duane Rollins (@24thminute) August 6, 2019
Also gamers will be happy to learn that #CanPL has had conversations with @EASPORTS about getting league into FIFA. They “have to earn it,” but it’s very much a goal of the league to get on that platform (and they are willing to go above and beyond to work with EA Sports)— Duane Rollins (@24thminute) August 6, 2019
Just get the Fury in already (I say to both the team and the league). It would be so much easier than starting a team from scratch.
