Worth noting that they may have realized that they don't give a f*ck about soccer, but understand that having a shxt product is a shxt investment, and since they're rich, they hired someone who's one of the best at giving a shxt about soccer, who can bring about a culture within their investment of giving a shxt about soccer and being good at winning.

hopefully Krafts fellow owners (the ones who also own an eggball team) have been in his ear about the sad state of his futbol team....every little bit helps...if seeing the 5 stripes or the sleepless in seatte team succeed has created just a bit more ambition then so be it...

I have to say that I'm astonished, and cautiously delighted by developments in Foxboro. Whatever I may think of Bruce Arena as a person, I acknowledge that he has been the most successful Manager the league has ever had. Since day one his teams have succeeded, both on the field and in the media attention arena.(pun intended). Perhaps, after a period of relative success, the hard shelled journalists in the city might give the team the time of day, and a line or two of ink, or air time. It sure hasn't happened up to now. Perhaps the thousands of us who wanted to be fans of the Rev, and who were driven away by the ownership's disdain for us, might be tempted to wander back after a while, if we could expect an honest commitment to excellence on the part of the team and it's owners.

    I now have some hope!

This is just so whatever for me. I have been beaten down so much with this franchise. I have lived far away for most of my life, but my love for the club never wavered until the last couple of years. I just couldn't see the cycle repeat anymore. It was watching my club get burned down like King's Landing. It's a mixture of hope and apathy with Arena. I hope the best and expect less.

At the very least in the near term, Bruce is going to come in and put the sieve-like defense in order.

Being a side that’s “tough to beat” would be a great first start.

This doesn’t catch us up to the top teams in the league, or anything close, but simply being organized and disciplined tactically, with the chaff pushed out at season’s end, might make us a mid-table franchise.

Revs=Charlie Brown kicking a football. We’ve seen this production by the Krafts before. The Krafts REALLY want to win. As long as it doesn't cost them any money.

The Krafts do care about the bottom line, even if (the perception is) that's all they care about. Right now, the "product" (I HATE that term!) is so bad that it is hurting the bottom line. This may not be a "Christmas Eve, 1989 in the Ceaușescu household" moment for the Krafts, but it's pretty close. Even they realized they needed to make a significant change and could not go on coasting as they have been.

Bruce Arena is the closest thing you can get to a soccer version of Bill Bellichick, so they went out and got him. For better or worse, they should let him do what he does best, and give him what he needs to do it while staying out of his way.

I think part of it was that Bob Kraft's reputation has taken some major blows recently, so the recent criticism coming from national reporters about him not even caring about the team come at a particularly vulnerable time. Perhaps whoever is advising him suggested that this isn't the time to be cheap or complacent and that getting this thing (the Revs) turned around into a positive was seriously worth doing.

Not only that, but they weren't being cheap! Wasn't the M'Poku transfer/salary package somewhere in the neighborhood of $14 million? Not chump change, even to a guy like Kraft.

And the player rejected them, which must have been the real nail in the coffin at that point.

I think Kevin Alexander really got this whole snowball rolling downhill in 2014. There's been more and more pokes by other media types at the same themes this year - but the Krafts had had essentially total air cover for many year prior to the Boston Mag article.

I am hearing that Bruce came with a pretty high price tag. This may show a commitment to changing the mentality in NE

I wonder what changed for some of the national media guys like Grant Wahl? It has seemed like a open secret for so long and there seems to have been so many opportunities to have spoke out in the past.

Interesting to note that Arena doesn't have a history of instant success. Even the team he had the first year in DCU got off to a slow start.

Maybe this roster is good enough for him to get them into the playoffs this year, but I don't think that is a guarantee. And I'm OK with that. I don't want a quick fix, I want him to get it right long-term.

Why the New England Revolution need Bruce Arena, and vice versa
    May 15, 2019, 12:47PM EDT
    Charles Boehm

It includes a tweet from Mike Magee to the Revs, suggesting they hire Pat Noonan. That is a thought that already occurred to me, since Noonan worked for Bruce in his last run with the Galaxy, and also the USMNT.

I have no doubt that Bruce will bring in 1 or 2 of his own staff but I believe Pat is with Philly right now

Listening to the press conference - based on Bilello's comments it sounds like they weren't planning to fire Burns but Arena insisted on having that role if he was going to come. He said he didn't talk to the Krafts till last weekend.

Wow, so they actually considered hiring Arena as coach, but keeping Burns as his boss? If anything, I can see Arena wearing both hats for a while, then turning over the coaching duties to his hand-picked successor. Arena wasn't ever going to be just the coach, and it's fair to say that literally everyone knew that. Well, maybe almost everyone...

Bruce most likely knows the reputation Burns has and did not want to work with him

what i got out of the press conference
    1. Bruce did not want the job unless he had full control of the team hence the Director of soccer/head coach title.

    2. Revs basically giving Bruce full reign including access to the check book

    3. No new info on a stadium

    4. Bruce reports to Brian Bilello but has direct access to Jonathan and Robert

One reporter said that there were STH cancellations. first I heard of that. Anyone else hear that rumor?

It wasn't rumor. I saw quite a few people post about it on Twitter, giving up their tickets.

I think he did not commit. He said either that game or the one after it.
