Would have been hysterical if they'd got him on tape attempting to instruct the younger guys on the finer points of taking a dive.

Union Green Card Watch continues - The expected green cards (likely Elliott and Burke) are still pending as the Union continue to keep 2 foreign players on loan to Bethlehem Steel at all times to stay roster compliant. Przybylko has been on loan the whole season. Since Monteiro has been added to the roster, the Union have loaned Fabian (while serving his suspension), Coronel (Union had Freese as a sub) and now Santos (he played last night for Steel). At some point, one of those green cards should arrive to avoid this roster juggling. Both Elliott and Burke have been playing pro in the USA since early 2017 (Elliott was playing college ball at WVU since 2013) and are still waiting for the green card. In contrast, Josef Martinez joined Atlanta at the same time (early 2017) and got his green card in July 2018.

Burke out for the rest of the season. He lost his P-1 status. Generally (and I'm not an immigration lawyer), the loss of P-1 status (or F-1 status related to students studying in America) is due to breaking an immigration rule. Burke can reapply, but the process usually takes several months to complete.

According to the Union, Burke is not in trouble with the law in the US or in Jamaica, but that remains to be seen.

Too bad the 76ers are making a playoff run. I think that @Boyertown2003 would be the best person to find out what happened. I guess we'll have to rely on JT.

Losing a guy to a visa issue. Having to bring in the pool keeper. God bless this eternally cursed franchise.

    First Keon, now Corey.

As someone who did their time on a temporary visa, you make damn sure you can get back in the country whenever you leave. It's irresponsible to do anything else.

This is going to complicate/at least delay his green card, no question.

Union get $100k in TAM, $400k in GAM and an international slot from the Crew for Accam.

    That is a GREAT DEAL!

That frees up a ton of cap space and signals that the team is planning to bring in another high-priced international player.

$500k plus whatever they have in the hold for an international striker? I'm intrigued...

Not worried about losing Accam either. He'll probably do the "score-goals-in-your-first-two-appearances-for-your-new-team-then-drop-off-the-face-of-the-earth." thing all our other "shoulda-been" players end up doing.

Going into this weekend, the team still had 9 international players and 8 international slots. While there have been rumors that a green card for someone (other than Burke . . .) is imminent, that still hasn't gone through.

In the short term, this deal solves that problem.

In the long term, it provides cap room and also provides funds and an international slot to bring in another player.

Too bad signing him wasn't such a good deal.

I completely agree that signing Accam turned out not to be a good deal.

But if the choice was to keep Accam and have him out of contract at the end of this season or get $500k plus an international slot now, that's a no-brainer.

As Ernst said this morning, the CJ money was used for Jamiro. If the team could use the Accam money to bring in a better player who is a better fit for this team, that's a huge win.

$500k is great for what Accam is now. Earnie got hoodwinked. Oh well. It happens. Tannenwald reporting that they will use the money to extend Monteiro. If I consider that it is effectively trading Accam for Vincent Nogueira v2.0, I become rather ecstatic about the trade.

Monteiro's original loan is just through July, with an option to extend to the end of the season, and then another option to buy at that point. I'm curious if the CJ deal only allowed them afford Monteiro through July, and this move will allow cap room to pay him through the end of the season, or if this is in preparation to buy him outright at the end of the year.

There's your confirmation that they will not be bringing in another international in the near future.

We needed what he didn't have last year, but he's surplus this year. Take the net loss on funny money, open up cap space. Addition by subtraction.

I'm cool with spending the resources on Monteiro. Maybe we get lucky and pull a true goalstriker out of our ass, but I could wait until winter for that. Either way, Ernst has really been making Earnie look like a fool.

The expectation is that there will be a green card prior to the opening of the next transfer window on 7/9.

Will "by the end of the month" become the new 60-90 days?

By the end of the month is less specific unless you say which month. Kind of like when they tell you, "we will be done with your construction project by the end of the month" when they are still working on the foundation. In that situation I often ask which month of which year?

So, they were one over, got a spot in the deal, added an intl to be one over? Since our keeper sitch has Coronel playing, who gets sent down? I guess Michee got the contract but not the bus ticket up? Unless Fabian is not ready?

I guess my take on the Accam deal depends on how much of the $730k prorated TAM for 2019 they get back. Half? I get the buy an asset and depreciate it by 50% and flip it for a loss is a win around here. What’s the plan now that the forward list is Santos, Fafa and Kacper in a 442? We went from 5 to 3 in a week. I don’t see how they get another intl striker without moving an intl or moving another asset for another spot first.

Interesting strategy, let’s see if it pays off.
