Trump true believers are what, 33% of the population? And half of them are over 50. I don't like their odds.

    That is just insane.

    You are advocating for assassination?

Are you Donald Trump, who said the same thing about Hillary Clinton and the "second amendment solution."

If you mean an armed militia necessary for the security of a free state, that was the reason for the second amendment, but that has been surpassed by the military, of course.

It was never designed for armed rebellion.

Yes, I tried to edit my post.

Part of the intent was to fight against tyranny but again that is not realistic in the modern world. It was a country of a few million people with long guns and nothing else.

However your comment about stopping the president is suggesting assassination.

Said by Thomas Jefferson, who had no part in drafting the Constitution, referencing Shay's Rebellion. And Shay's was very much on the mind of the folks that actually drafted the Constitution, i.e., it scared the crap out of them and they wanted a more centralized national government that could better deal with such threats in the future.

    Yeah. And?

Not thinking that assassination is on the table as a check against tyranny is lacking in historical perspective

Jefferson was always an influence over Madison. But if this one doesn't work, I think we can agree that Hamilton pulls enough weight. From Federalist 28

"If the representatives of the people betray their constituents, there is then no resource left but in the exertion of that original right of self-defense which is paramount to all positive forms of government, and which against the usurpations of the national rulers, may be exerted with infinitely better prospect of success than against those of the rulers of an individual state. In a single state, if the persons intrusted with supreme power become usurpers, the different parcels, subdivisions, or districts of which it consists, having no distinct government in each, can take no regular measures for defense. The citizens must rush tumultuously to arms, without concert, without system, without resource; except in their courage and despair."

I believe it was a CBS producer who said Trump was good for ratings but bad for the country.

Trump is one of the personified reasons why I left journalism.

No. Madison was more independent then people give credit, and especially so when Jefferson wasn't around.

You need to read the entire essay and not cherry pick paragraphs. Federalist 28 was about the need for a standing army to help put down insurrection. Hamilton tries to allay fears of such army becoming too powerful by noting that it would be controlled by elected representatives nationally and that states would be an additional check in this regard. To the extent the Second is implicated in this essay it's only indirectly. It's certainly not the focus of it, and the essay isn't about citizens rising up against a duly elected government. Hamilton later put this into practice in advising/assisting Washington in putting down an armed insurrection of citizens in the Whiskey Rebellion.

That was Thomas Jefferson. He wrote that about Shays Rebellion. That happened during the Articles of Confederation and had nothing to do with President of the United States.

Edit: I see @yossarian beat me to it.
    Thank you, sir.

You seem to be advocating for this. As a mod, have you confirmed that the FBI does not monitor BigSoccer? If they do, there might be a few guys with suits knocking on your door.

Also, "assassination" is extremely rare against tyrants, if it even exists.

For "historical perspective," please name the tyrants who were assassinated by regular people.

I am not on twitter and rarely venture there, but I decided to read the comments to Trump's tweet about losing money.

The level of cover his base gives him is astonishing.
His defenders: 1) the rest of us are too stupid to understand his taxes, 2) "nobody" cares about his taxes, 3) only fools do not cheat on their taxes.

I'm still trying to figure out how y'all think the military will follow his lead. There have been two very notable occurrences in which they rebuffed the President's wishes - the parade and sending troops to the border. The second was mostly administrative, which was obviously what Individual One did not want. So if he declares marshall law, I don't see that that military would do anything significant (as an organization) or anything at all to prevent the transfer of power.
