In his press conference he seemed to be saying that formation doesn't matter much, but he does want a lot of attacking football - paraphrasing loosely here. Personally, I hope to see Rubio up top in a position to get goals, rather than in the midfield. With Acosta, he looks best when he's in a holding role that also allows him to push into the attack.
Oh Pablo wasn’t the issue huh? With the current roster, which is better than any year I was there, Pablo would have this team top 4 in the West https://t.co/KKzCazWrb4— Jared Watts (@JaredWatts02) May 2, 2019
Not sure about top 4, but I am sure Pablo would have at least a few wins and competing with this roster.
I don't think he was saying formation doesn't matter, but was answering a question about what formations he'll use. His response was that people tend to get hung up on formations, but there's a lot to consider. In any event, about the only way the team could get worse at this point is to start playing school yard style mob ball.
If Conor needs another coach to replace the NZ assistants, I understand that Brian Mullen still “helps out” with the academy sides.
I text a good friend and another coaching colleague - both coach "higher' level Rapids Youth teams - to get their reaction to Hudson's firing. As one would think, it really doesn't effect their coaching. Both had the same "it had to happen" attitude. Anyways, during the text exchanges I asked if they knew if the NZ assistants were canned/resigned and they didn't know. Ironically, they both said if Casey needed assistance that Brian Crookham would be the obvious in-house choice. That does make a lot of sense. So I wouldn't be surprised to see him on the sidelines tomorrow night.
Sadly, I saw a lot of yard style mob ball with this team. If Conner can change that, he already is above Hudson.
Pádraig Smith said that the #Rapids96 are "looking at a number of options" and are talking to a few different teams ahead of the transfer window closing on Tuesday.— Jake Shapiro (@Shapalicious) May 2, 2019
Can't find the Kroenke "Spokesman" remarks but there is this. Sam lays out the major issues with the Rapids. Found it notable that in a statement pushing back, a Kroenke spokesperson pointed to a stadium built 12 years ago, an MLS Cup won nine years ago and a DP signing many considered ill-advised considering the price tag and ROI. https://t.co/LbexaggIPg— Paul Tenorio (@PaulTenorio) May 2, 2019
General note, since we're going to be typing it a lot this season. Its Conor, not Connor or Coner or Conner.
Guilty. I always spell that name wrong. Too many versions. Can't we just go with "CC" and make it even easier?
Lots hope Casey will field the correct line-up. For kicks and giggles, what is the correct line-up? I don't have an opinion.
Conor Casey: Howard Rosenberry - Sjoberg - Opare - Vines/Serna Price Acosta - Bassett Feilhaber Kamara - Rubio Casey Conor: Kamara Rubio - Acosta - Bassett - Feilhaber Price Rosenberry - Vines/Serna Opare Sjoberg - Howard
Shit, I would pay to go see this lineup now. Gamble. It’s not like we can move further down the table.
Closed Captions for the Hearing Impaired? OR is it Crappy Corrections for the Soccer Impaired? Who knows these days. I'm feeling that the next couple of games are gonna be bumpy, but enjoyable - whether for good for for bad ....maybe the CC is for Crazy Circus... it still is Kroenke and Smith on top after all
Now that Conor has replaced Goner, his first big task will be to plug the gaping hole where MLS-level CBs should exist. A busload of recycled Kiwis isn't the answer. If he can accomplish this one thing, he will help erase the awful images of the last 43 matches. I don't expect much in the way of innovation for the Vancouver match, given the short turnaround from Hudson walking the plank. By the Rocky Mountain Cup match, however, things may have a different look. Will Casey go full Italian, and embrace the Christmas Tree of Death? One thing for sure. Hudson took Houghton off the hook as the worst coach in the Rapids' tortured history.
We used to be awash in dmids, too. Now there are none. Conor Casey lineup? Howard Rosenberry-Opare-Sjoberg-Vines Nicholson-Acosta-Feilhaber-Mezquida Kamara-Rubio Puts in the Scottish winger, target man up front paired with faster forward (smaller anyway). He'd like to find a bone crunching d-mid.
Tim is going to be on a quick flight out after the game (actually likely tomorrow morning): https://www.wmcactionnews5.com/2019/05/03/tim-howard-named-next-smasher-memphis-fc/
No damn way I'm going downtown with the Beale Street Music Festival happening, even with Howard there. First game missed this season. Downtown stadiums aren't always all they're cracked up to be (but most of the time they're better than the alternative).
