Not his best game but Vancouver definitely needs to get their shit together. He’s been MOTM for every single game he’s been in for me. His quality is evident in this side and I hope he gets a chance to shine on a bigger stage. Really don’t know how people here don’t think he’s effective even if he might not utilized in the right role for the KNT. I have no reservations about claiming that he has the potential to be indispensable to us.
He came on as a substitute the last two games. General consensus (twitter) is that his performance has dropped off the last few weeks. Cue "he should have gone to BL2" comments
his performance has gone down because vancouver has settled into a long ball counterattacking team. even playing centrally (center or left), hwang doesn’t get enough touches. they boot it down the wings often (to their credit, it hasn’t been a bad strategy recently). since he can’t contribute as much on the ball, he’s turned into a defensive hustler, often covering 2 positions in the late stages of the game. (side note: i think that’s why he’s been coming off the bench recently, the schedule has been tight, and he covers the most ground on the team next to adnan) he shows glimpses though, like the reverse pass or last play (v. red bulls) that both resulted in shots on goal. lastly, think mls is correct level for him at this stage. he just needs to get on a better, possession-based team. i think he would kill it on a south-american dominated side with some true flair players to compliment his passing. ps. if u want to watch all the games, there’s always a high quality yt link in the mls subreddit match thread. look for the comment that’s says “here’s that thing”
insightful HIB thread, addresses fatigue + his potential More from Hwang: “Chung-yong told me that football is fun and easy when you first move abroad, but that I’d hit a wall when fatigue sets in and opponents start analyzing me. He told me to focus on staying healthy when that time eventually comes. I needed to hear that.” Dos Santos on Hwang In-beom’s progress in MLS: “Best In-beom will be the one in 2020, not 2019. He needs a good amount of break, and then have a good preseason. I've seen flashes and moments of a player that, for me, could be the best No. 8 in MLS.” Met with Hwang In-beom last week in New York. Talked about his progress in MLS, relationship with Lee Chung-yong, and ritual of meeting with Korean fans before and after every Whitecaps game. This could happen, especially since Hwang Ui-jo shares the same Korean agent as Hwang In-beom. Vancouver would still have to face competition. Ui-jo garnered interest from Germany in January whilst still on contract with Gamba, whose price tag no German teams matched at the time. https://t.co/5xoxi2sPue— Steve Han • 한만성 (@realstevescores) June 5, 2019
GlassCity is the guy who first broke the news about HIB's move to Vancouver. He has sources within the club, so the HUJ interest is likely legit.
