Kuntz seems a little old. I think they'll go for someone younger. I agree that Soto will be a candidate. I think St. Mary's Adam Cooper will be a candidate (he's a UCLA alum), as will Portland's Nick Carlin-Voigt, a former UCLA assistant. I could see UCI's Yossi Raz being a strong candidate but he has the nation's top-ranked recruiting class coming in this fall and may not want to walk away from that. Fishbein is an interesting one. Not sure if he's ready to give up on New Mexico but if he is, he'd be a strong choice. I could also see UCLA trying to get some good PR with this hire and going for a bigger name in terms of being a former player of note like an alum who had a good playing career like Cobi Jones or Ante Razov.
I think I’d go with somebody with experience, recruiting chops and a strong orientation towards control etc. There will be a lot of distractions, negative recruiting etc and the next leader may be better served if they aren’t also learning how to handle a D1 program for the first time. That might limit the field a bit but they need stability at this time...in my view.

That's a good hire. Griffin helped recruit some real talent at both UCLA and UP. I thought he'd have been the leading candidate for the Portland gig if Carlin-Voigt returned to Westwood so Griffin moving tells me the UCLA job is going to someone else.
Well, that removes Tony Danza from consideration. Congrats to the new coach...same conference, existing HC, makes sense. Hopefully he can restore the program to its glory days.
Buyout in his contract maybe? The school will breakeven where it would be a loss for a talented player to transfer to a conference rival
No, just a bullshit double-standard rule that players have to live by and coaches don't. As for Boss, this is a good hire. He played (briefly) in MLS and in the lower divisions, won an NCAA title as an assistant at UVa and had a good season in his first as a head coach last year. And, he served as GK coach for the USMNT this January at Camp Cupcake. He has contacts with the top youth clubs and MLS academies, he's young, has a pro background, some national team experience and a championship ring. He also has absolutely no ties to UCLA so the program starts with a clean slate. He'll be able to say all the right things when recruiting.
That's not true. New transfer rules permit players to move freely via portal. If it is denied they make it for "academic reasons"
Indeed at NCAA level it is now more lax. However, conferences can still keep intra-conference move restrictions and there is still debate over whether players should have to sit a year when transferring as an undergraduate. Interesting points in the hereafter quoted article: https://www.cbssports.com/college-b...that-ends-coaches-ability-to-block-transfers/ The transfer portal is indeed very efficient and makes it really easier. My son experienced it.
Jorden has climbed very well. Cal Baptist to Pacific to UCLA. Of course, with some assistant stops in there.

Does Jorden's career progression (Cal Baptist, Pacific, UCLA) seem eerily similar to Jeremy Gunn's (Colorado DII, Charlotte, Stanford)? The other thing I wonder about, what is the over/under for how many times Ryan's last name will be misspelled here and in newspapers?
