The never ending saga of the stadio della roma continues.....

    -----------------------------------------

    Pallotta: Roma stadium 'this year'
    By Football Italia staff

James Pallotta has confirmed Roma’s plans to start work on their new stadium ‘this year’ as it is what the club ‘deserve’.

The Stadio della Roma appeared to be on course for construction, but project was thrown into chaos last week after it was caught up in an investigation into possible corruption.

There has even been talk of a new site for the proposed venue, but Pallotta made it clear nothing had changed on the Giallorossi’s part.

“Fans want the stadium to be for them and so they can be closer to the team,” the President told Tele Radio Stereo.

“We want to start work this year and give Roma the stadium they deserve.”

When it comes to Italian stadiums, for every step forward, there is 5 steps back.

    Mayor's warning over San Siro
    By Football Italia staff
    [IMG]
Milan mayor Beppe Sala has warned the Rossoneri and Inter that the council ‘can’t lose ownership of San Siro’, regardless of its fate.

It is understood that Milan and Inter would split ownership of San Siro if both clubs opted to rebuild the stadium, but Sala has now threatened to throw a spanner in the works.

“We need to find a formula because it’s owned by the council with a very long-term concession,” he told reporters.

“It’s clear that we can’t lose ownership of the stadium. They can hand it over to us, [playing on it] via a long-term concession.

“Inter and Milan are now making assessments from an economic-financial point of view: building a new stadium will cost about €500-600m and I believe they’re also evaluating the cost of refurbishments.

“There’s only one constraint that I place on it: we can’t lose the stadium. Frankly I can’t say what the solution will be, but I’m inviting them to come up with a proposal.”

    ----------------------------------

I was under the impression that the new stadium would be owned by the city of Milan. Milan and Inter need to come up with a better solution

I thought Inter and Milan would split the ownership, like the Jets and Giants do in the NFL.

The city sounds like its worried about losing rent.

You hit the nail on the head. The city is more concerned about their cut than thinking of getting people employed .

    Update on the Nereo Rocco

The last seats are being installed (finally) this week and the awful yellow barriers are being removed in preparation for the Euro 2019. This stadium is proof that with a little TLC, you can make it presentable.

Last year it was reported that reps from Hellas, Chievo and the city of Verona were in London to study the construction of the new Tottenham stadium.

Today there are reports that a new stadium plan will be presented soon. The new Arena will keep the external elliptical shape of the Bentegodi, however the interior will be re-configured pushing the seating closer to the field. The capacity will be reduced to 27k (it should be at least 30 IMO). There is also talk about having a retractable roof (science fiction lol)

The reason this project is hopeful because it's being spear headed by the city of Verona. They supposedly have a financing plan that would not cost the city 1 euro.

    Well that's the idea.

Better stadiums = better attendance = better revenue

I doubt Chievo have much scope to increase their attendances.

Generally fans in Italy prefer to watch football on TV than at the stadium.

Chievo are somewhat capped. Hellas however have a better following in the city.

Why Milan must leave San Siro...'
    by Football Italia56 minutes ago

Milan President Paolo Scaroni has explained why the club must leave San Siro. “Our revenue is still what it was in 2003.”

Milan and Inter are ready to demolish San Siro and move into a new, 60,000-seater stadium nearby, and Scaroni asserted the city rivals were ‘allies in this project’.

“I won’t exclude leaving San Siro,” he told reporters.

”We need to embark on a journey like the big names abroad have, equipping ourselves with a modern and efficient structure.

“Only then will we have more revenue, be able to buy players, go to the Champions League and maybe win it again. Inter and Milan are allies in this project.

“We could leave San Siro and play away in Parma, Verona or who knows where, but I don’t think we want to see Inter and Milan play away from Milan. That’s the dilemma.

“If the ideological dispute over San Siro led to the conclusion that we couldn’t touch any of its structure then we’re leaving.

“To win things you need good players who are expensive and paid well. To get them you have to make profits because with FFP, you can no longer bring out your wallet.

“Milan’s revenue is still what it was in 2003, whereas Real and Manchester United are approaching €1bn.

“To get there we have to go down the road they took and have a modern, efficient stadium, which is always full and visited even when there isn’t a match on.

“It’s a concept that’s different to the one we have today, so we must equip ourselves with a modern structure for all the family.

“Only then will we take more revenue, buy players and win the Champions League again. If we don’t do that, we’ll never get there.

“Inter and Milan are allies in this project, so let’s move forward together for a modern and efficient stadium.

“We’ve been working for six months, visiting all the stadia in the world. The ideological dispute doesn’t lead us anywhere, so we must think about what to do.”

    ——————————————

Everyone loves the San Siro (me included) but the fact remains that it has hurt both Milan clubs financially

The Verona stadium plans have been unveiled. Looks like something someone put together in photoshop

That's all that exists at the moment. But it looks like they are drawing heavily from the Verona Arena (Roman amphitheater in the city). Looks like the seating areas will be all independent. Interesting solution without having to break the bank.

And some good signs of movement:

Atalanta will be playing their remaining two home games at the Mapei while work beings on the new Gewiss Arena

    https://www.atalanta.it/site/pagina...-Contro-Genoa-e-Sassuolo-a-Reggio-Emilia.html

Bologna are exploring the possibility of playing one full year away from the Dall'ara while it is getting its much needed upgrade. The stadium they are leaning towards is the Alberto Braglia in Modena
