According to the 2018 press release; Did anyone ask for change back then? Or this specific change, rather? adidas had done enough to keep Union kits fresh while still sticking to the central stripe, almost like they changed it for the sake of change (or to have a disruptive kit to sell more copies).
The Gala shirt kind of looks a diagram of the digestive system in an anatomy textbook. I'm normally not one to quote my own posts, but I always like the center stripe on the Ajax shirts (there's an image of it if you go to my original post).
Depending on what you ate for lunch, it could be a lightning bolt in your digestive system! Maybe that's appropriate considering how watching the Union makes me feel sometimes...
My theory is adidas pushed the metallic jersey number and stripes on the shoulder at the expense of the 'old gold' element. The 'electric blue' element that was supposed to be a nod to the city flag disappeared too. That's so Union to totally own a trivial decision they likely didn't make. There was a thread about Cincy's new kits and the team wearing replicas the year... someone said adidas does all the design and the teams/league only okay options.

Isn't the NBA exclusively adidas as well? Or maybe were, and now Nike has those rights? You don't see those manufacturers limiting what the teams can/cannot use ... but then again, it's not like basketball jerseys are more than a basic solid color with some fancy team wordmark. I guess it's a single-entity thing with this league, and MLS HQ dictates these kind of things. I guess we should stfu and be happy the team has the freedom to negotiate its jersey sponsorship though. Would be nice if kit suppliers were open to anyone ... adidas, Nike, Puma, New Balance, Under Armor, etc.
In theory sure. In practice, not so sure. Adidas pays more for their MLS deal than they do for their deal with the NHL. I'm not convinced that Under Armor, Nike, etc. would pay teams more then they get now from the league wide deal with Adidas. Also, there wouldn't be as much gear and merch available to fans, let alone any variety. But, but, but Europe!!! Great, how easy is it to get merch for the non top Euro teams? MLS used to let teams broker their own jersey and merch deals....merch wasn't readily available. As for the center stripe...............the only jersey it looked good on was the snake skin one. Go back and look at the previous Union jerseys....IMO, they're ugly. I have each of the jersey's. The other's have not aged well at all. .............I get it...BUT Ajax!!! That's not a center stripe. The entire chest area of their kits have been red while the sleeves have been white. Their not the same. Also, the Union already had that look for the past two seasons with their road kit. I'm not sure how well that would look with Gold and Navy though.
No way. The original 2010 design, with no Bimbo logo, and the light blue highlights - combined with the matching shorts ... 100% perfection.
Guy was the master of holding up around the top of the 18 to the penalty spot to snipe goals. I bet he would love to play against Haris right now.
I'd rather like to see some with the proportions of the Ajax shirt, but with a blue center panel and either gold or white on the sleeves and sides, paired with blue shorts and socks.
The gold that Adidas uses for the Union just doesn't look all that great on jerseys when it's used more than just as an accent (like pinstripes). Maybe it's me, but it just takes over the entire kit when it's used in large patches. Sadly, I doubt that we'll see a City Flag concept either, due to all of the teams in the league who already use light blue.
I provided three - IMO - great variations on that center stripe theme. Just because it has a center stripe, doesn't mean it has to be a BORING center stripe. Unless we can convince Elon Musk to sponsor the team.
Instead of "inspired by" the fans, this one would be design by, Phang style. Now when fans hate the jersey, the FO can say we have nobody to blame but ourselves. Are you a #UnionSuperfan? IDK. I'd much rather be a part of the 2021 "roster design process" than the "kit design process." Where can I sign up for that? I care far more about the players on the field than the "it's sure looks a plain white shirt on TV" jersey that they wear.
There's some deals/sales on EBAY for Union training gear and Union jerseys. Not quite Ross prices, and not sure how reliable the sellers are, but a discount is a discount.
