Wouldn't be the first time I was wrong. Let's pretend I never mentioned it.

In his interview on the LA Galaxy website, he says he is most comfortable "in the middle". He mentioned the 5, 6, 8 and 10 positions. So at least he thinks he has a lot of flexibility to cover both offensive and defensive roles.

The mood seems to have changed in here. Amazing what a win and giving time to DTK and co can do.

Solid moves so far. Interested to see what they do next. Whatever moves they do make will give us an idea of how they view the current depth chart. To me, the most pressing needs are that forward and right back positions. Ideally we get someone in that can play as a forward/winger but that's not usually a cheap combo to find. Rolf has never convinced me that he is an every game MLS starter so it would be nice to bring in someone to replace him there. Who knows how much money we truly have left to spend though.

Buying out Gio and filling one of our roster holes with a NT midfielder does tend to improve mood. :)

As a side comment, I never think of going to Mexico as "going abroad."

Late at night, in the quiet hours, I keep thinking that maybe this Front Office knows what it's doing. I love Drini, but he may be too injury prone to keep as a DP past this year, and I wonder if that played a part in not restructuring/extending his DP deal to keep Gio.I hate to even say it, because the guys bleeds Galaxy colors, but his hammy problems may mean he is not the best choice of a DP after this year...

Right now, I think we're set up for three new DPs next year. That might be very attractive to DTK and GBS, who likely want to bring in their own guys

I don't understand where this concept of this being Zlatan's last year is coming from. In interviews, Zlatan implied that the Galaxy wanted to sign him to a multi-year contract and that he refused because he wanted to be sure he could play to his standards. I don't think that the Galaxy will dump him as long as he continues to produce.

Perhaps. But I could also see Ibra recognizing that he cannot play "to his standards" anymore and hanging up his cleats.

Alessandrini doesn't get injured any more than our other DPs and important offensive players, based on last season's games played. So unless you are ready to get rid of the whole lot, I don't see a reason to single him out. And considering he's the most important player on our team (IMO), he would not be the first to go in my book.

    Lletget - 28
    Zlatan - 27
    Romain - 26
    Pontius - 26
    Jona - 23

    Gone, but for information:
    Gio - 14
    Ola - 31

Ibra's negotiations and 2019 contract were done without GBS or DTK here so we don't know whether they are looking at Ibra past 2019.

Of course, it stands to reason the higher ups could go over DTK and GBS's heads and just extend Ibra outside of our coaching staff's wishes, but one hopes that sort of stuff is in the past (unfortunately I think we all know it isn't).

Your right, but it Zlatan produces at anything close to last season's per game level, I would think that resigning him would be a no brainer even if he isn't the ideal for for a GBS lineup.

The same thing occurred to me the moment he got pulled from the game. My thought was, "This right here is why you can't get a 3 year deal." At least he produces when he is healthy but dang if he isn't going down as often as Keane was at the end.

He's young and he did reasonably well with the GIIs last year as a scorer. Proved he was USL-ready. Question is whether that is his ceiling or floor. I expect we'll mostly see him for US Open Cup games.

I wonder if GBS's and his trainer's enthusiasm for heavy duty preseason conditioning is related to so many beginning-of-the-season injuries. Every player I saw interviewed said it was the toughest preseason conditioning they ever had. It's pure speculation if the injuries are related to this but it's important to remember GBS is relatively new to the coaching game - he also is learning as he is going.
