Jona seems like a professional. He always seems to put in an earnest shift and has said he would stay even if Gio left. I think he may even play better without Gio and the related drama, honestly, but I expect him to support his brother publicly vehemently. Gio and his Jona's biggest issue is their dad, IMO. On one hand, you could say he's done right by them, maximizing their career earnings and profiles by landing them at places like Barca and Tottenham, when in reality neither is good enough to have any business at clubs like those for any meaningful length of time, IMO. Good for Gio's lifetime earnings, but not his playing career. A couple of seasons of regular starts at a smaller club would've really helped develop the more mundane aspects of his game that he desperately needs, IMO. It's why I thought he'd succeed here. People harp on his historical numbers, but he was scoring goals and assists in La Liga at 24. But his dad micromanaging him is also why he's mentally weak. Jona will prosper without the distraction.
ahem, my translation was fed through me, and yes there is different translations for "rematch/revenge" but in most cases "rematch" is used in sporting events, like soccer, baseball, fights etc... and revenge is used more when speaking about an individual. but if you want to dig deeper you can even say that Jona is stating that futbol always gives second changes thus rematches. none of us know what Jona is thinking, I'm sure he is salty which is why he used that wording, he could have said "segunda oportunidades" but I digress.
I’m thinking this FO really messed up the Julian Araujo signing. He was six months away from being signed as a HGP. Why couldn’t they just wait to sign him? It seems like they needed a warm body to fill the bench. They could have just brought in Sean Franklin as a league vet minimum, just as stop gap til Araujo was HG eligible. However moving forward he won’t be automatically protected in the expansion drafts and the Galaxy had to send 50k in TAM to Colorado to make sure we’d land him. If he was starter then I’d understand, but this seems like a rush job and mis-roster-management, for a guy that won’t start a game with the first team this year.
The word is that there was enough interest in him from abroad that they risked losing him for nothing if they didn't sign him now. Assuming he continues to get USYNT call-ups, that interest could grow. Given our lack of defensive prospects at the DA, it's not like he's standing in anyone's way either.
LA Galaxy close to signing #USMNT veteran Joe Corona, multiple sources tell @YahooSports: https://t.co/vWHxSURr3B— Doug McIntyre (@ByDougMcIntyre) March 6, 2019
So according to some folks on reddit, we're being linked with Joe Corona and Iraqi left wingback Ali Adnan. I have zero idea how reliable these rumors are but both seem to fit "needs". I say "needs" because we have players in starting positions there already (Skjelvik and our crowded midfield) but both seem to be upgrades. For the record, I like both potential signings. Corona has a ton of Liga MX experience, is only 28 and is American (be still my beating heart!). He can play across the three attacking midfield positions and provide something different from our wide players (Boateng and Antuna are pretty traditional wingers). Going into the summer window, having a guy like Boateng 3rd on the depth chart might make some good trade bait. That being said, I imagine he'd slot in behind Zlatan. Adnan I've never heard of but he has been playing for some decent Serie A teams for the last few years and would be a good upgrade in Skejlvik (theoretically) and, if he can play on the right, would push Feltscher to the bench (I knew if I sacrificed enough goats to Zeus it would come to pass!). He's only 25 as well and would be coming on loan meaning our commitment wouldn't need to be long term if he doesn't work out.
What position does he play? I think Jurgen played him in every position across the midfield, which really doesn't help me figure out how he's going to fit into the team.
Its a good question but if you think about it he will be useful across the midfield and even as a fill in on the wings. We need depth in all those places so he certainly will have a role to play with our squad. The article is mum on "how" we acquire him. As a fringe USA player, wouldn't he have to go through some allocation mechanism? Or do we have his rights somehow?
Mainly centrally. Maybe this means they got bad news on Romain's injury and Lletget will slot out wide now... ?
The Yahoo article says something about Galaxy being close to signing Corona before and retained his rights - is that a real thing? Any MLS rules experts know?
It's a TAM deal, although this article doesn't say whether we held his rights or had to acquire them through allocation or otherwise. I'm told the Joe Corona to the LA Galaxy deal has been completed. Free transfer, TAM deal. Excellent pickup by the Galaxy: #MLS #LAGalaxy https://t.co/9DKNIg78S5— Ives Galarcep (@SoccerByIves) March 6, 2019
JDS-Corona-Lletget as the middle 3 in a 4-3-3 is pretty darn good. Now if we can just upgrade our fullbacks....
Can confirm @ByDougMcIntyre's report that the @LAGalaxy are adding @USMNT midfielder Joe Corona on a free transfer from @Xolos . The contract will involve TAM. The team will also add 20-year French defender Diedie Traore -- currently with Galaxy II -- to the roster this week— Kevin Baxter 🇺🇦🏳️🌈 (@kbaxter11) March 6, 2019 I thought that maybe one of the international slots would go to Traore. This would leave us with one more international slot available. Got to be for a forward right?
Apparently Corona started both legs of the Apertura Championship for Club America in December, so even if he isn't getting regular starting minutes, he played a lot of meaningful minutes for a championship team just recently...
Traore signing official. He was expensive, though. We paid $100K in GAM and $75K in TAM to Columbus to acquire an int'l slot. https://www.lagalaxy.com/post/2019/03/06/la-galaxy-sign-defender-diedie-traore
I believe we still have one more international spot available right? If so, I'm not sure you can say that the money spent for the slot from Columbus is for Traore. It could be for whomever else we bring in. I guess I'm just saying let's not confuse the cost of an international slot with the cost of signing Traore.
True, but it would be odd for the Galaxy to put the international slot acquisition in the Traore story if it didn't think the two transactions were related.
Trust me, Traore could be a great player for us. He impressed me almost every time I saw him. If you want a comparison, he reminds me of Nouhou from Seattle. I don't trust the Adnan rumor with our two actual left backs. Hopefuly the last international spot is for a defender.
Or a forward right? I know our defense is not great but I have to say that I think our biggest need now is someone that can play up top when Zlatan can't (for whatever reason).
This is our second biggest need IMO. Zlatan is our starter, but we don't have a starting CB next to Polenta (even if I like Steres). I won't be shocked if we sign a forward though.
