Perhaps this is like the Jack McInerney deal a few years ago, where we got him at minimum salary on waivers but he was still paid at full price by his former club.
The question is whether AEG will let us convert $750K of the Ola buyout to GAM or whether they want all of its used to cover some of the cost of the buyout. If the former, then we now have quite a bit of salary budget space with the $750K of GAM, the ~$1m of max salary budget space from Ola and Gio, and the ~$450k of TAM from Ola. We still have plenty of time in our window to bring in some strong replacements.
So much drama for such an obvious choice. Also, so much for the "Gio wants to contribute to the team". He prefered to be waived instead of having another chance...
My guess is the player union held their ground and told the FO/Gio that restructuring his contract would be against the CBA. Or my earlier prediction that this was always the plan, but we wanted to save face with JDS was correct.
And if Alessandrini gets his green card and if we sign Traore (which is likely the case), we still have one international spot open. A CAM from South America paid with TAM would be great.
I’d like to hear from management that we plan to invest in the team immediately and that AEG is on board.
A possible lineup with “natural” backups ------------------Zlatan---------------- -----------------(_____)--------------- Antuna----------Lletget-------Alessandrini (Boateng)----(Alvarez)-------(_______) -----------DosSantos-----Juninho------------ -----------(_______)------(Carrasco)-------- Skjelvik----Polenta-----Steres-----Feltscher (Traore)---(Romney)----(THA)----(Araujo) --------------------Bingham---------------------- -------------------(Lampson)-------------------- If everyone is healthy, our starters look pretty good. Depth is an issue, particularly in that we might have to reply on some young players who haven’t proved themselves. Clearly, a centerback is at the top of our summer shopping needs but otherwise I’m not sure whether we’ll look for backups or longer-run starters who might sit this year.
This more than anything else this season gives me hope things are changing for the better. That must have been an absolute kick in the gut to swallow $6m dollars and I don’t begrudge AEG looking for ways to soften the blow, but I’m glad they ultimately did what’s best for the team. Let’s hope there’s no fallout with Jona at this point.
I would like to know what that means. If he’s sold or transfers to another team (please be LAFC) do we get our money back?
So now that Paul Tenorio's narrative lies in tatters, what else has been going on in the world? I think I overheard a colleague mention something about Michael Cohen...?
DTK reiterates that it was a very difficult decision, but notes the added roster flexibility for #LAGalaxy. "We create a lot of opportunities to strengthen our roster in a way that our coaching staff is comfortable with."— Adam Serrano (@AdamSerrano) March 2, 2019 Sounds like they are planning on using the $$ and Garber bucks to bring in reinforcements.
We suddenly have money to spend but I REALLY hope that we take our time and be thorough. I'd be happy to struggle through the first half of the season, see who steps up while thoroughly accessing all options before making decisive moves with long term upside in the summer and at the end of the year. No more short term stuff.
My faith in the club and the leadership is restored. We will suck for a few months, but I have faith we’ll make big moves in the summer. Edit: Forgot to say... PAUL TENORIO HAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA (takes breath) he thought he was breaking news HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
This tweet makes it sound like they announced buyout, but can still do something with him and reduce their buyout fee. Not sure, but good luck to them. This is the big question now re: Gio. Waived? Loan? Transfer? Lump sum payment and then terminate the deal and make him a free agent? Loan seems the best option, and it would allow #lagalaxy to recoup some $$$. https://t.co/qimV6G9pez— Jeff Carlisle (@JeffreyCarlisle) March 2, 2019

GIO IS GGGOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNEEEEEEE! What a waste of a signing. What a waste of a No. 10 jersey. He never deserved to have that number.
