I did try some weird IPA once brewed with tree branches or something that tasted very much like I would expect Drakkar Noir to taste.
Off-Topic question... where would be the best place to be dropped off and picked up for the game Saturday? It’s too cold for my wife, so she offered to drive us. Thanks!
you can drop off/pick up from the 17th ave entrance to the parking lots. the drop off is right in front of the gates
Don't recall seeing this anywhere, apologies, etc: On Crewsmas Eve, Land Grant will debut the four sample beers at four different locations: 4th Street Bar and Grill, juicy pale ale. Ruby Tuesday, black ale. Old North Arcade, American wheat. Hendoc’s, brut IPA. Then, as noted, Land Grant will serve all four on Sunday.
I didn't realize the Crewsmas kegs were split up and sent to separate bars. I wonder what will be at the Land-Grant shipping container at Mapfre on Saturday afternoon. I doubt I can finagle a 4 bar barhop on Friday night so I'll probably just wait until they're all at Land-Grant on Sunday.
That's probably truer than I want to admit. But truly, it's more about not pressing my luck with the miss. I got 8 months of Crew devotion to spread out, can't be wasting all the goodwill in Week 1, especially since the Kickoff Party already took our Tuesday night this week.
For some perspective, I went back to last year's Crewsmas thread. What a year would make of us. Merry Crewsmas Eve, my ragtag BigSoccer Crew. Columbus Crew soccer exists. We earned our miracle. Now let us drink with old friends, lose voices with new ones, and enjoy our beautiful season opener in the original Crew stadium. May we continue the journey. Remembering those fans no longer with us, finding joy in the company of friends who share in our passion, and enjoying the experience with our little ones. We are heading home. What a privilege to enjoy. See you all tomorrow.
I had a friend in college that drank Brut once. Based on his reaction I would not recommend it. Today he's pretty high up in the FBI. I think he still wears Brut.
Can't say it better than that. Thank you. I would only add quotes from two of the great philosophers of our time: @hangthadj : One Love @Chris_Bailey IT'S HAPPENING!!!!!
Chelsey: You're not average.... Your husband and you are both lucky to have found each other. Mrs KG and I can't wait either. It may be hard to get to sleep tonight..... Happy Crewsmas Eve! 30 hours to go....
Being as we were coached by Gregg Berhalter the previous five seasons, I've failed to recognize/remember how ridiculous the CONCACAF Champions League schedule is. The good news is that it comes to our benefit here. The Red Bulls resume Champions League play on Tuesday (!?!?!) against Santos Laguna. Santos scored like 11 goals in their round of 16 match and won by something close to 100 points. The Champions League match is at Red Bull Arena. Armas would surely be looking to get a result there. Between that, and so many regulars having already put in big minutes on Wednesday I think we can see some rotation from Armas tomorrow. After all, dropping points in week one on the road isn't that big of a deal in a league where 99.9% of halfway competent teams make the playoffs. Opportunity knocks....
Yeah, we've got to beat Red Bulls II. It's three points which could be pretty important come the end of the season.
Ok so Land Grant has a podcast series (wait should this be in the podcast thread? or maybe the what am i drinking thread....who really knows so I'm just continuing this convo here) and this week's episode (https://www.landgrantbrewing.com/lgu/) is about the new Crew supporter beer featuring an appearance from board favorite Morgan Hughes. All are aimed to be session beers (fancy talk for beers you can drink multiples of over a long period). The American Wheat and Black Ale are revamped recipes of the Glory and For Columbus beers from years past. Here's what I learned: Black Ale is 5.1%. They tried to make a lighter dark beer with this one. The guys gave it a 3 out of a sixer on their crusher rating system or how many of them would they drink in a row before wanting a switch or feeling too heavy. Juicy Pale Ale is 5.0%. Their try at recreating of Crew Juice which sounds like it was a mix of pineapple and Glory. 4.55 out of a sixer on the crusher American Wheat is "Similar to Glory" and they didn't give the alcohol content (I would assume it's similar to Glory at 5.4%). Switched to white wheat from red wheat to lessen the graininess and changed the bittering hop to something more citrusy. 5.32 out of a sixer for crushing. Seems like it's their favorite which surprised some of the brewers. Brut IPA was still fermenting so they didn't have it to try and just gave the definition of a typical Brut IPA and it doesn't really appear to be that customized from that style. Sounds like the American Wheat is the winner on paper but I'll play their game and try them all.
Glory is/was a good beer - assuming you accept it as being an American wheat and don't expect it to be a Hefeweizen, Belgian white or some other wheat-based brew - so I was inclined to be more attracted to the new American wheat concoction.
speaking of the CCL, Red Bull won 3-0 on the night and 5-0 on aggregate. They played a first choice team as well, so we should have the fresher legs.
You know, I wonder if the old Wrecking Ball video is going to make a comeback on Saturday--since Crew Cat is back....
The video with Crew Cat flying around city landmarks, flying into the stadium, and blowing up a Red Bulls logo? That’d be a nice touch!
When did that disappear? IIRC, it was way before the scoreboard caught fire. The bigger question: Will Crew Cat just show up, or will there be some sort of huge deal about it?
