I agree with you that Puyol had a couple of mistakes. I was honestly baffled at how he could not get that 2nd ball cleared after like 2 or 3 tries. BUT, since we all know what Puyol is made of, we can sincerely brush aside these mistakes as total freak accidents. Man, each time I look at that clearance on the line, I get goose bumps. Xavi, oh man, what can we say about him that hasn't already been said. Strong contender for best goal of the season so far (just shy of Ronaldinho's genius against Milan, but just as important). I honestly wouldn't feel good deciding between one or the other. I'd give it to both. Puyol kept the game alive, and Xavi finished it off. What a proud Catalan night. Iniesta scored in his second consecutive start, Puyol with a heroic performance, and Xavi masterful.

despite a few errors, i think puyol takes player of the game, the game unfortunately was played more in our defence than our midfield, xavi had the play of the game but i'd say with the way puyol fought back against the albacete attack, that was clearly trying to frustrate him by any means necessary, i think he really did more to get the win. all that aside, xavi's goal was unbelievable.

    Van, Can.
If I may, I'll have to go with Puyol on this one. You could see how frustrated he was with allowing that goal, and come hell or high water he was going to make up for it. And man oh man he did with that clearance off the line. That really was amazing. Three times did I think Albacete would score, first on the shot, and twice as he struggled to get the ball away, but all three times Puyol wanted it more. Absolutely inspiring.

Xavi's goal was brilliant, but Puyol exemplified what you want your captain to be about in this game, even though he made a mistake. And seeing as this game was more about Barca's defence than it's attack for much of it, I'll give it to Puyol. Besides Xavi already has a few MOTM awards to his name. Puyol deserves a bit of credit ;) .

The thing is, Puyol saved the game, and Xavi won it. His strike was a masterpiece, and so was Puyol's save off the line. That's y I think a Co-Man of the Match award is needed. Both were heroic in their own way.

I support both Real and Barca as well. Only reason being that they're both very entertaining teams to watch (Well, Real Madrid isn't all that entertaining right now, but Ronaldo is my favorite player so that has a little do with it, too ;))

i missed most of the valencia game, only saw bits of the second half, so i don't really know who should get it there. from what i saw deco looked very good.
eto'o should get MOM against levante, i don't think anyone will complain about that.

I wouldnt put Etoo as MOM. He scored a winning goal but I think if Rijkaard had Larsson Etoo would be replaced before the end. He had poor match looking all 90 minutes.
I think Deco have a good match. Not his best this year but a good one. Also Oleguer was very secure and Messi looked good in his 30 minutes of playing. But for MOM I vote for Deco.

Well, the sign of a brilliant striker is one who's able to put a miserable match behind him and win the game in one breathtaking moment of brilliance. That's why I wouldn't hesitate a moment in giving Eto'o MOM, also considering no one else really stood out. Deco had one of his quieter games, and actually gave the ball away leading to Levante's goal.

I agree it should be Eto'o. Though I would have considered Damia for his goal save and overall solid play. But Eto'o's (?) goal was probably one of his 3 best of the year.

no bright spots from barca in the villerreal match, riquelme was clearly the man of the match, but if one has to be chosen i'd say eto'o showed the most.

I thought Iniesta was the best Barca player on the field, even though none were themselves.

    real sociedad.
i think it was pretty clear that valdes was our MOM against sociedad. his two incredible saves from two one-on-ones against nihat were worth the three points alone. the second one was especially spectacular, it reminded me of peter schmeichel. ronaldinho had one of his better games in recent weeks, hopefully he will get back to full fitness soon. and, of course, eto'o needs to be thanked for scoring the winner, he was invisible the entire game but his killer instinct came through eventually, and it was his first headed goal too!

I thought Marquez and Iniesta did great, too.

But, I agree. The MotM was clearly Victor Valdes.

    Barca-Racing match

I think Belletti was our best player. His runs down the right flank were amazing. Also good work in defense. I think he deserve to be MoM.

Ronnie had a poor first half but good second. Etoo didnt do much after he scored a goal. Xavi had some fine moves but together with Deco they didnt totaly won the midfield as we have seen so far this season (it was also a little bit different tactic but anyway). Giuly had only an average performance and should score atleast one goal.

In the end I think Belletti should be given MoM title.

    Your toughts...

Completely agree about Belletti. He had a terrific match, and was completely terrorizing his marker on the wings. Plus his crosses were actually good! AND he played good defense. About Giuly though, I think he had a very good match. Yes he didn't score, but both Xavi and Ronaldinho had even simpler chances to score and they failed. Doesn't mean they didn't have a great game. I was all smiles to see Giuly back to where he always should have been. His forward runs were almost unstoppable, and with just a bit of luck, he could have had a brace. We didn't look for him nearly as much in the 2nd, but I was totally convinced by his 1st half performance.
    Belletti MOM.

i thought belletti was our outstanding player as well. ronaldinho was a close second. i think giuly had a very good first half, but he is still not fully fit and he really tired in the second half, his game depends a lot on his speed, so he has to be fully fit to last a full 90 playing at the same level. deco had a decent game as well, really nice goal, he's been criticized for going down easily, but he sure didn't go down that time. i'm really happy to see belletti get MOM this time, because a lot of you guys have been a little hard on him. personally, i'm a big fan of belletti's. his crossing is weak someimtes, but it doesn't help knowing that the forwards aren't real aerial threats, it's not always the best idea to send in crosses to players like eto'o, dinho, deco, and xavi since all of them are clearly better with the ball on the ground, so when he does end up sending in a crosses it's usually because he has no other choice and he's forced into it. throw in a big guy at CF like maxi, and i think we'll see some better crossing from belletti. he can get caught out of position ocasionally, but thats the risk you're always going to have to take when you play the way barca does. at least he never stops running his heart out. makes me tired just watching him!
    YAY Belletti!!
