As much as I would hate losing Ola, it might end up being beneficial. We would have the TAM and space to bring a starting CB from abroad to play next to Polenta.

Ola and Zlatan were never a perfect fit. They were both target no. 9s. GBS now has more flexibility to go away from the 4-4-2 and play someone underneath Zlatan or go with a 4-3-3 with wingers up top and Zlatan central.

If that's how you went to look at it then go for it. But I choose to be more patient with any move or transaction. For all we know Kamara wants out and the Galaxy have always been willing to let a player leave if they want. Keeping a player against his wishes is usually a bad strategy.

My question for you is what if they use the money from the sale of Kamara to bring in someone better? Why not give the DTK some time to make some moves?

Everyone on this forum who is expecting the FO to fix everything overnight is out of their minds. It is hard to do that with any team let alone an MLS one that has strict salary cap rules. Patience is what I am going to go with for now.

You may be right but I've been waiting for them to fix this roster since 2016. The fact that we've messed around until the last minute trying to restructure the deal of an overpaid, ineffective player, with only a year left on his contract, rather than buying him out, is not a great start.

Now we're talking about moving one of the brighter spots of 2018 with days to go until the start of the season. I don't believe for one second that he would have waited until now to request a move unless something has happened. It makes no sense. If he wanted to move, why wouldn't he have made that known before the UEFA January transfer window closed? Whether it's the Galaxy looking to shift him to generate money for Gio's new deal, or Ola sees the writing on the wall that if Gio stays, he's not getting much playing time, if he goes and Gio stays, I won't be happy.

Especially as we lack cover up front.

Meanwhile, we're too busy fapping about, building statues that nobody asked for, to update the name of our venue on freeway signs.

I'm going to give DTK time, obviously. It's very early days. Maybe Friday comes and we proclaim him a genius. Maybe he's got ideas in the pipeline. However, I'm sure you can understand my concerns.

The trouble is, I fear we're doing this for TAM to keep Gio. Otherwise, why now? The 3 DPs alone are over $1.5m in cap space, plus we know that Skjl*%lkjl-! and Kitchen are making a fair amount of money.

If Ola and Gio both go, then I think you have a solid point (though I worry for this season) but again, if Ola was interested in moving and we wanted to make space, why not explore that in January when there were more clubs that he could potentially sign for?

If we bring in more TAM and have more cap space, isn't the logical move to buy down Romaine's contract under the DP threshold as opposed to restructuring Gio? That way we can still get rid of Gio after this season. I keep seeing that this influx of cash is the way we'll restructure Gio's contract but why do that if you don't have to? The sooner he leaves the better.

Wonderful. After Ola leaves, all we need is for Zlatan to blow out his knee in the opening match, then we will be set at the striker position...

The only way this makes sense to me is to use the money to buy Gio out.

Then go all in the summer transfer window.

Ola got a raise last year. To do this all last min without getting a replacement is ridicoulous.

Two points: 1. Ola isn't a good fit with Zlatan. 2. That said, this still doesn't make sense.

Bonus point 3. I really hope DTK and GBS are working this and not Klein because my only hope is there is an actual plan to all of this.

Couldn’t we just use the TAM money we cleared from Zlatan becoming a DP for Gio?

That’s part of what makes me think this isn’t 100% Gio related.

If the transfer fee is significant enough to offset Gio's buyout, then I'd accept it.

It's worth noting that Kamara moving doesn't open an international spot.

Again I will return to my question of how in the world is Giovani Dos Santos not a green card holder by now? He's been here 3 years. Chivas 2.0 just got green cards for two players here less then 12 months. What am I missing?

We should be able to free up international slots that way.

This exactly. I see all the other team's helping their players get their green cards but our internationals never seem to get theirs. Maybe there is an explanation but who knows?

A green card gets him nothing that materially benefits him that he doesn’t already get through his work visa. It would be something a teammate would do to help out their club, but being a team player isn’t exactly Gio’s strong suit. And while the club and Gio personally have more than enough resources to hire an attorney to do most of the work for him he still needs make time to sign documents with a notary, get biometrics and photos, show up to INS and do an in-person interview. Dude barely shows up for things he’s contractually obliged to show up for, not a snowballs chance in hell he voluntarily heads over to the UCSIS and waits around like a commoner when he could be playing video games.

JFC if that is the case we better buy his ass out. If that's the case and we EXTEND him think of the terrible message that sends to the rest of the players. It would be one thing to tolerate garbage like that if his play was awesome but it's not.

You may be right that this could be done since the 2019 league rules are not yet public. However, by the 2018 rules, the max compensation that can be paid to a player using any amount of TAM is $1,504,375. My guess is that moves to around $1,530k in 2019 unless the league raises the TAM max compensation amount.

FWIW teams have $1.2mm in TAM and an additional $2.8 mm in discretionary TAM in 2019, unless the league raises these amounts in the 2019 rules.

    Isn't transparency wonderful?

LOL Great!!! This had better work out for the best!
This for me is like what happened with the Timberwolves right before the start of the season with Jimmy Butler. That last minute move pretty much cost them the season. We are going to have to get all of our goals from Zlatlan and the midfield.
    DANGITTT!!!!!

The Chinese transfer window opened up Jan1 (closes Feb 28). If Ola and his agent had contact with them before joining the Galaxy then this all could have been done weeks ago.

Waiting till 4 days before the season while we still have another contract to fix is not a good look. I had a lot of excitment for the season (its been a while). This has sucked it away.
