c'mon man ... there are plenty of holes in the stadium implementation, but as DCU teams go, when was the last time the team had this much potential of winning the MLS Cup?

They have the same chance every year at this time :)
I think they will, a few of you think they have no chance at all - the truth is usually somewhere in the middle :)
It all boils down to injuries at playoff time and a few bad ref calls.
That's the joy of a somewhat parity-based league.

People still do, and rightfully so.

Hell people get mad about "the MLS" and that one even works grammar-wise okay.

Not sure if anyone saw this last night, but we may have missed out on our PSG pay day.

With the way the money was tied to performance clauses and how we'd have to share a cut with MLS, likely share a cut with the shady middle man as well as possibly Lucho and his agent, there wasn't a ton of money for us at the end of the day. I am ok with walking away from that deal and trying to win this year.

Beside the money there is real value in being able to show potential transfer targets that there will be a path from DC United to a bigger level.

We are not winning MLS cup with Birmbaum and Brilliant or Pines or Jalen at CB.

    $5mil is better than nothing.

    Agree 100%.

It wasn't going to be $5M before everyone got their cuts. Was going to me more like like $3.5-4, than hack off 33% for MLS then the mystery middle man and anyone else, we were likely looking at maybe netting $2M.

So, when he signs his pre-contract to move DCU should negotiate to have him buy himself out/mutually terminate his contract in August instead of having someone increasingly watching his step so he doesn’t get hurt “playing for nothing”. A disinterested Lucho has already been seen here. I’d rather they make a jump for a big transfer in the summer again. There might be more “takers” with Rooney on the roster.

    Thx,

    Jay!

I am going down from a full season ticket package (the last 21 years) to only going to about 4 or so games. It is no longer fun to attend DC United matches. If I am not having fun why spend the money. I also think we are further away from MLS Cup than many think we are.

I don't think you can spin Lucho leaving on a free as a good thing. He's not going to ask for more than Wayne Rooney, so just pay the man. He's fun to watch. With Rooney to draw in the curious, he'll win fans from all over. From my perspective, he could be as important to DC's "brand" as Wayne is, and I'd be happy to keep him as a mid-priced DP for as long as we can.

It never should have gotten this far. The idea that we were as recently as last month still talking about $2M/yr for a guy who is the face of the franchise that is this young and brought as much to the table as he did the last half of last year was disheartening TBF.

Can i ask, what has changed that made you downgrade?

I was actually thinking about purchasing my own instead of leaching off my friends.

Mauer has an axe to grind with DCU. He's the anti-Goff that way. I'd take what he has to say with a grain of salt. I'm sure there's truth to it, but I'll bet he's adding/subtracting from the story.

With Goff largely writing DCU press releases, together we have balanced coverage.

Waltzed through the season? I remember a slightly different dance on at least one night in September.

TB 0 - 1 DCU at the half.

A headed goal by Senor Wayne was disallowed by VAR in the 40th minute. (I only saw it once, but he looked onside when the ball was played in, a perfect cross by Stieber.)

The replay showed he was offside, but not by a whole lot. The cross was ridiculously good.

Stieber's corner kicks have looked good, too.

Steiber still seems a bit dormant to me, like he's not fully switched on.

Lots of giveaways and some really awful distribution out of the back - both from Bill and from the defenders. Sure hope we don't think this will be good enough for the regular season. Second half was looooow energy.

Who is #13 on TB? He seemed to be moving at a speed faster than everyone else save maybe Lucho. Looked good enough against us to warrant a trial...
